I've always been a fan of Linfield from afar. I think it's probably the year you finally face one of the other Purples in the final.
First we have to beat some Red Dragons this week....then perhaps the Purple Cru....and possibly the Purple Tommies and then probably the Purple Raiders......there are just so many good Purple Teams in D3.  I always chuckle a little bit when Mt. U and UWW are referred as THE Purple Powers....  Anybody want to give us Cat Fans a synopsis on Cortland St.?  They look to be a pass > run team with a big line and at east 3 good recievers.  Their defense looks pretty vulnerable to a good passing game.  What else can you guys tell us?

....beware, and don't take the Red Dragons lightly!!!
Cortland is dangerous on offense led by a very good QB with good WR's.  Defense tends to give up a big plays.  Games are usually very interesting and entertaining to watch until the very end.

Watched them play part of one game against Framingham earlier this year, who was another playoff team that lost this weekend. Their passing attack is good, line is pretty good in pass pro, and they seem to generate a respectable run game, just not one that I think is going to do anything against Linfield. My guess is they are going to try to air it out and play pitch and catch with the wideouts.

Defensively it looked like they played zone to trips most of the time and that is where Framingham got alot of yards against them. Cortland is pretty sound against the run but is prone to giving up yards in the pass game. From afar it seems they give up a lot of big plays. In alot of ways, Salisbury being a option team seemed to play into Cortland's strength as a defense, which is stopping the run.

All in all, I'm hoping for a good game, but I don't think its going to be close.

Cortland is a good team and should not feel bad when they likely get crushed by Linfield, a top 3 team in the nation. By all accounts this should be a successful season, and just by winning in Round 1 helped out the E8 a bit after the topsy turvy season.

That all said, there's a part of me that knows that Cortland plays a lot of wacky games and maybe this could be one of them. I'd love it. It would shock the D3 world for sure.

Well, Cortland ruined my perfect bracket. They might as well go upset Linfield now anyways...  :(

I always wanted to kick Cortland's butt as a Montclair fan, but have a lot of respect for them. They always play hard and are in most games when playing decent teams. Linfield, I hate to say is in another league, but kick their arse anyway.  :D
It ain't over till it's over, and when you get to the fork in the road, take it.

I thought for sure Salisbury would beat Cortland but Cortland played a great game. Salisbury has an unconventional offense which Cortland seemed to be able to stop. From the little I saw of the game I thought Cortland's QB was a tough dual threat which I'm sure Linfield will be preparing for. Not sure how well Cortland can run the ball but other than the QB I didn't see much. If Cortland can't mix it up a little I think they will be in for a long day. The Linfield d-backs are fast and tackle well.

dlippiel

Dlip thinks (feels pretty certain) that Cortland just does not have the defense to stay in this game. Dlip sees a purple double monkey stomp train coming right at the Dragons.

With that said Cortland should hold their heads up high on a great season. Dlip did not think for a sec with that ****in D Cortland would win the E8. They certainly battled and have a ton of heart. Regardless of the cluster**** that the E8 was it still took a damn good team to win it. Not a top 5 team in the country mind you, but a damn good football team in relation to the rest of the nation.

Best of luck to Cortland! Dlip will be pulling for you big time.

Bummed there are no Cortland folks on the board. They look like a really good and physical football team.  People were not really expecting Hampden Sydney to give the 'Cats much of a game a few years ago in the 2nd round and they took Linfield to the limit so you never know.  I'm expecting a really good football game and if any Cortland State board lurkers are out there, I hope you have safe travels if you are coming out the Pac NW.  Looks like a beautiful weekend ahead.

And the LINFIELD faithful are thankful for all the work Wildcat11 puts into his blog.
Look for his take on both teams later in the week.

I'm going to be a contrarian and say, Cortland is going to beat Linfield.

Bummer that it isn't Alfred flying to McMinnville. AU actually attracts some students from the West Coast and Pep has a couple of friends out there who are AU alums, one who did grad school at Willamette and the other was just back in Alfred recently for a visit.

And, Pep would very much enjoy verbally sparring with the Linfield faithful on the boards. Fact is, while it is Cortland State making the trip, it could have been Buffalo State, St. John Fisher, Alfred, or even Morrisville....the Empire 8 was brutal. Suffice it to say, Cortland did what it needed to and Pep is looking for the Red Dragons to give the Wildcats in that mythical CatDome a game!
