Brockport secures both Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year...despite finishing 5-5.

Here's how many 1st teamers each squad had:
Cortland    7
SJF           5
Brockport 3 (2 POYs)
Utica        3
Buff St     3
Morr        3
Hartwick  2
Ithaca     2
Alfred      0

Lots of love for my Saxons here. Given the balloting here, one would think the Saxons finished dead last rather than 8-3 and an ECAC Bowl champ.  ???

Putting aside the fact that individual awards are not awarded based on a team's record...

Corey Wallace (ALF) 120 tackles (58 solo) 16.5 TFL, 2.5 Sacks, 4 INTs, 3 FFs
Shaq Frederick (Buff State) 105 tackles (46 solo) 8 TFL, 1 sack, 0 INTs 1 FF

But, I don't think the ECAC games are counted in this, and I don't want to go to the math. Certainly Wallace would have a claim.

Other than Wallace however, I don't see any other skill position guys who would have a great claim. Definite nos at QB/WR/TE/RB. No other defenders really jump out

Had to offer my Cortland thoughts.

Lots for the Red Dragons to be proud of. They went on the road, against what a decent number of people consider to be the best team in the country, and played about as well as anyone could have expected. This wasn't some laugher or blowout. The Red Dragons were legitimately in the game for the entire first half and I'm sure a whole lot of people just figured they were going to be fodder for a blowout. Cortland was a very talented team, and it showed in how competitive they were. Major, major props to the Red Dragons.

But—and this is less about Cortland than this conference as a whole—this game also illustrates just how far the E8 has to come to be truly "elite." Perhaps Cortland wasn't exactly the E8's best ever rep (though frankly, they're probably better than the two Ithaca teams that preceeded them as the AQ), but they still did what they needed to do.

And ultimately, when I look at some of the underlying numbers—Linfield's starting QB going 17-of-19, the 8 sacks, 3 picks from a guy who had just two all season—I see that there are just areas where the teams we're producing just can't compete with the best teams. It's not meant as a personal attack, just an observation. Even when the overall result is pretty good, we can see areas where the talent difference is just too vast.

I remember asking Jamie Donovan what it was like facing Mount Union in 2007. He just said "Man, they're just big, and, strong, and fast." And this was a guy playing for an Ithaca offense that scored three touchdowns against a defense that hadn't allowed ANY all season. But Ithaca was, in a lot of ways, in way over its head, even if the 18 points were great, and, like Cortland, the Bombers kind of hung around for a half (Trailed just 21-12 at the break)

I've been known for disagreeing with the perception of the E8 as elite, and these things are what I'm getting at. We're a very good conference, with very good teams, which is why we can go out and not lose these games 56-10. But we're just not there yet.

Going back through the last couple pages dlip saw this (he must have missed it) and honestly feels it is the best post of the year. This is as clear, simple, and accurate of an observation/thought that dlip has read regarding the east's, specifically the E8's, place among the national D3 landscape.

Well done as always bombers. dlip feels you are a true asset to these boards. Always a source of great analysis, information, and perspective on the football we all love.

Agreed. I'm thinking I should stay in this board because I've lost 1 karma point every day for weeks now. Maybe the obsessed person will forget if I only post here  :P

Wallace really was the one Saxon Pep had in mind when he posted this. Andrews clearly was worthy of Offensive Player of the Year with his numbers (although AU held him 100 yards under his average). Was puzzled by Defensive Player of the Year selection after taking a look at the stats.
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

Pep..can't dispute pretty much anything you've said. However..I'm pretty sure the E8 team and awards are selected by the coaches. They probably only look at the statistics if they are unsure of a player..but they pretty much just vote for who they "like" as a player or who they "respected" the most. Usually it's who gave them the most problems in their game or stood out on film in their preparations. Every team will have their own experiences/opinions (YMMV) of each guy, but it seems Tarik Bennett stood out more as a defensive force/preparation/execution problem than the others. They may not even considered the stats.

D3viewer...I haven't seen YMMV outside a strip club review.  ::)

pg, you had the nerve to post on the elite WIAC page.  How dare you?  One winter I was dinged over 30 and when I asked about it I was told by those who are in the know that it was a WIAC poster.  Some people just need to get a life.  Take it as a compliment.  You annoyed someone enough that they decided to waste their time to ding you.

I've certainly narrowed it down to the West region for sure. If I wasn't such an OCD or number person I probably wouldn't even notice. Trust me, I am aware when I make a post that might be deserving of being smited, but I've been quite benign  :P.

Good luck to Wesley and safe travels to you. My prediction isn't good for them but I am also hoping for the "miracle" as you stated on the NJAC board.

Oh yeah, I got pounded by posting there last offseason, and I know exactly who it was...

To be honest I think think I have two of them now in the last 3 days. Maybe they have recruited.

Congrats to Brockport's Dan Andrews for being on D3football.com's all-region 1st team on offense, along with Tarik Bennett being on the 1st team on defense.

Congrats are also in order for Cortland coach Dan MacNeill who won eastern region coach of the year!

Good job to all that made the teams!

Well Ithaca is bailing on the E8  >:(. Heading to the LL after 2016-2017. Can't say I'm shocked but I am pretty disappointed overall.

Is this for sure? You're right, not too shocking but big news nonetheless.
