And now both teams are gathered around midfield praying together?  What a fascinating and fun game to watch.

I don't know how common it is for a team to win and then drop in the Top 25 rankings, but St. John Fisher's performance today will test that.

Utica, Alfred, Hobart, and W&J all better win profiles at this point and should be higher than the Cardinals  (Pains me to say)

AS good as the O is (and they are really good) SJF's defense is terrible. I thought they were lucky playing a QB that lofts the ball in week 1, and then Springfield pushes the D-Line around like a scout a team.  Fisher's D-Line is out of shape, slow, and they stand up and move backward getting in the way of the LBs instead of moving forward on the snap -- almost like they're pass blocking.  Really ugly win, and embarrassing effort on D.

If Cortland can run the ball, they might beat the Cards by like, 70 or something that's how bad the Run D is for Fisher.

I actually disagree with that wholeheartedly and I think the defense has been just fine this year.  They were put in a bad spot by special teams that led to one of Springfield's scores.  Really they had one bad defensive series in the 1st quarter and held Springfield at bay for most of the game.

They're good offensively and defensively.

I'll admit it was pretty ugly today, but I think Fisher will be fine. They did win by 2 scores and despite some interesting moments late, they were pretty much in control the whole game. That option offense always gives Fisher fits, and I think the qb today threw more than  Fisher anticipated. SC played hard at home, Some bad turnovers by Fisher, and Fisher still won.

Should be interesting to see them play a more traditional offense next week.
GO FISHER!!!

must have watched a different game - The D-Line got pushed around like tackling dummies.    And they were not put in a bad spot, didn't matter where Springfield had the ball, when they ran it, it was for positive yardage... ugly win over one of the weakest teams in the Liberty League.

St. Lawrence is 2-0 on the season, outscoring opponents 80-0

Maybe a changing of the guard in that conference?

Hobart v. Ithaca

SJF v Cortland

big matchups for only week 3

No I watched the game where Springfield punted 6 times, was turned over on downs, was intercepted a couple of times, etc.  I absolutely think when you botch a snap on special teams and the ball ends up on your 1 yard line that you can't really blame the defense for that.

What game were you watching?  The one where Springfield scored 2 touchdowns otherwise for the entire game but somehow that means we were dominated?

middlerelief

I watched Utica beat a Top 25 team

Caught some clips of W&J and Cortland

and then watched most of the game and SJF's softy D-Line was getting manhandled anytime Springfield had the ball.  I missed the 1 yd drive.

Fish will be leap frogged in the rankings if not drop out completely

Then lose by 400 next week at Cortland.

XREDDRAGON77

Middlerelief,
I'd like to see 400 points by Cortland next week too!
Taste It!

Hartwick and Brockport both look well on their way to victory.  If they hold up then it'll be a perfect 6-0 OOC weekend for the E8.  12-3 OOC overall for the season after 2 weeks.

Remember this when we all start beating each other and Bombers inevitably says that maybe we're all just mediocre.

Congrats to Utica....those Ohio teams are no match for the New York boys.....well other than Mount who?? Impressed with Alfred win over RPI as well.

Cardinals v. Dragons next week....I'm going with a mythical fire breather over a nasty bird..let the E8 beatings begin

"The cardinal is the only red bird in eastern North America with a crest on top of his or her head, which rises when the bird senses danger(DRAGONS??). Cardinals are not migratory and stay in the same area year-round. They form winter flocks with up to 60-70 birds(hmmm Roster is bigger than that?). They eat many pest insects and disperse seeds(you can use your imagination here)" Nothing personal but fire beats insect eaters...Hey I root for the Statesmen ....so what do I know

E8 Thoughts:

1. Hey, Utica! That's an amazing win for the program. Stunning a top 25 team like that is astounding. Great job. Maybe Utica *has* arrived.

2. Fisher and Cortland next week could be a high-scoring affair, and may be the key game in deciding a Pool A bid.

3. Hartwick's offense looks potent, and the defense looks abysmal. Long live Team Boltus

4. Ithaca looks like the opposite of Hartwick

5. Morrisville being shut out isn't encouraging, but St. Lawrence is legit on D.
