Very nice trip to Alfred today.  Thanks to Pep for getting me in the alumni room for some food before the game, the chili was pretty good.  The Pep band is fun to be around, they liven up the game atmosphere.  It was also nice to meet Saxontad, told you to relax at the half since there was now way Fisher was going to score enough to beat you.  What a really cool field set up at Alfred.  The bowl effect is neat.

Now about the game, Alfred is just better.  The QB makes plays and will be annoying to any team that they play in the playoffs.  #4 is a nice receiver and his size will be an issue for most teams.  Fisher had 1 chance to get into the game; 3rd quarter punt is muffed by Alfred with a Fisher player being the first to it, somehow the Alfred player takes it from him and 2/3 plays later #4 makes a great adjustment on a broken play bomb and turns it into a touchdown.  Fisher recovers and scores it is 24-21 and a game, instead Alfred scores and and it is 31-14; game over.  Fisher looked very slow on offense and Alfred played a defense to not get beat over the top.  I expect Alfred to win at least one game and after that it depends on how the brackets are set up, they certainly could win 2 especially playing at home.  Alfred does nothing great, but they do plenty pretty good.

For an impartial assessment of the Saxons, Pep quotes Wesleydad, who made the trip to Mayberry on Nov. 12 to see Alfred and St. John Fisher square off for the Empire 8 AQ. Pep agrees with his assessment. The Saxons do plenty of things pretty good...heck, he even thought the chili was pretty good! You just never know who's going to rise to a challenge and make the play to save the day.

Pep is hoping for a good competitive game with good sportsmanship and no injuries. Like Pep tells the band, "Keep it classy, not trashy."
Safe travels to all the Raiders fans making the trek to Mayberry. Hope you fill your side of the stadium!

On Saxon Warriors!

Pep, I will stand by that statement.  Alfred is a good football team and from what I can tell beat to pretty good football teams the last 2 weeks despite what some in the East think about the New England teams.  Alfred is going to have to play a great game to win this weekend because being really good doesn't get it done when you take on the best of D3, I know that from watching Wesley try all these years now.  Good luck tomorrow and I hope the team and the campus enjoy the game and the atmosphere that comes with a region final game.  Not everyone gets to have that experience.

Looks like, according to "Quick Hits," the Saxons don't stand a chance.  :(
Pep,
Don't worry about the D3 predictions, the Saxons CAN win this game IF:
When you have the ball..... Run, you were the best in the E8 , your OL will cause them problems (heck Hobart was the worst rushing team in the LL and we had our 2 RB's get more than 7 yards per carry)... even when they  stack the run , your passing game is plenty good enough to sustain drives...Johnson is a dual threat which will be a problem  for them.
When they have the ball .........your DE's MUST contain the rushing game from bouncing to the outside....the Raider backs are quick and move laterally very well, not so much inside. The Mount passing game is very surgical especially when their Freshman QB has time...you must put pressure on as the E8 team with the most Sacks this year .
UMU had 4 turnovers and lost against JCU....they have been turnover free since that game and won both Playoff games with a +2 in turnovers. Nothing complicated here get and keep the ball and Saxons win.
Last, be ready for effective adjustments at halftime by the UMU coaching staff....both Hobart and Hopkins were tied 21-21 late in the 3Q, but the Mount knows how to finish...win the second half and the Saxons win.
I think you have a better shot at winning than Quick Hits projects.....you should take inspiration from Alfred the Great when he fought back many of the attacks by the Norseman Raiders....defend your homeland Saxons!(Live preview of The Vikings  this Saturday in Mayberry)

The Autumn Wind thing is pretty cool.....but if any pillaging occurs the Saxons will need to bring out the boiling oil in the second half to deter the Raider onslaught :o
Hoping everyone sees a great game tomorrow.....good luck to all wearing purple

How much purple can we expect to see on Sat ?

AUKaz00

Well, saterday is here. We got purple pumpkinheads and Fisher canaries. Heck, even dlip is wearing the armor, garnet-all!

I'm taking my youngest to his first NFL game tomorrow in Baltimore (kid loves that purple!), but I hope but the end of today's game my voice is gone, the band is out of breathe, and the Saxons walk off the field as proud as Julio when this magical season began.

On Saxon Warriors!!!
Check out the official card game of the AU Pep Band - Str8 Eight!

Pep,
Could it be true that the MOUNTain throws itself into the great sea of the ELIMINATED today? I told you turnovers would decide this game ;D Seriously, if the magical run continues we know it started with Julio Fuentes walking across that same  field.....what greater inspiration could there be for your Saxon Warriors!

Nice start for Alfred, but Mount is just too fast for the Saxons.  This game could get ugly real fast if Alfred keeps turning the ball over.

Bartman

Had to turn on Mount Union radio....another Saxon turnover this time for Mount TD and it is 21-7 on a questionable double reverse call(Mount Union is way to fast for this play call)....Johnson hasn't even gotten started....focus Saxons focus

Upstate

It sucks when you play one of thr top 4 teams and they make you look clueless...

Fisher has been in the same boat a few times...

Just gotta keep playing though...
