Looking at last years All Empire 8 team, here is the tally of who has the most returners from that list.
The all E8 team has a first, second, and honorable mention team.

Team         total all stars returning        (# of 1st teamers)

Brockport 7 (4)    * does not include QB Joe Germinerio who was conf Rookie of the Year

Alfred      5 (2)     * includes Defensive Player of the Year AJ Licata LB.  Maleke Fuentes was listed 2x on the list (1st AP, 2nd RB) only counted him once.

Ithaca 5 (2)   * Jordan Schemm was listed 2x (1st DB and 1st KR/PR) only counted once. Special Teams Player of the Year. They are just here for reference, now in LL.

Buff St    4 (1)

SJF         3 (0)

Hartwick  2(1)    *Koree Reed was listed 2x (1st Wr and 2nd AP)...only counted once

Utica       2 (0)

Cortland  1 (0)

Morr       1 (0)

Oh Oh after reading this post, worried about the opening game between Hobart and Brockport. Looks like Brockport returns 3  All League OLmen and starting Fullback , with Joe Germinerio at QB , I think the new Hobart DC will have his hands filled...who does Brockport have at RB this year to follow Dan Andrews...not that it matters with Germinerio running all over the field? Looks like another nail biter back and forth game this year.....the Statesman know how hard the Eagles play and preseason rankings don't mean sh** when the whistle blows to start the season ...looking forward to some intensity at the Boz to start the season...and hopefully a win....then week 2 against Fisher....some tough E8 teams to start the season....a month to go Baby!

I would not undersell the loss of Andrews. Just one of the all-time greats in conference history. Brockport's got a lot of talent elsewhere—at the most important offensive positions to boot—but you simply can't expect not to feel the loss of a guy like Andrews

Totally agree, Andrews was a special D3 talent that could have played for most D1 programs. I am very glad that he has graduated as an opponent ,but will miss seeing his abilities on the field...he was awesome

The quandary for Brockport is despite returning their whole OLine and FB and QB (who didn't play vs Hobart last year and didn't take over as full time starter until game 7) they lost just about all of their playmakers (except Germinerio). Dan Andrews was the focus of the entire offense. He had almost 200 yards rushing and 3 TDs vs Hobart last year. Plus they lost their 2 top Wrs, who had some size and were deep threats.  So you have all these blockers returning for "no one" (proven). The QB is a dual threat who thrived off the threat of Dan Andrews run. Pull the ball and go or misdirection. And play action passes of an Andrews fake run . Germinerio was their 2nd leading rusher last season but you can't make him the focus of the run and pass game, he'll wilt or get beat up in the process. They have to find a TB to take a load off and make plays (and a deep threat WR). It could be anyone. They will ,however, have the benefit of a veteran OL/FB combo  which is the good side.
Hobart's O vs Brockport's D is somewhat of a wash in terms of returners. The game last year was a shootout, Andrews vs Sweeney and Shed. Andrews gone; Sweeney and Shed back. Just about all Brockport's returners on D return, which may not be a good thing. How much will have this defense have progressed in a year? It may improve but probably not against Hobart. Under this HC, the defense has never been a proven commodity that can hold many leads.
So I figure Hobart will only be better on offense (it would help if they found some type of ground game), and Brockport will only be marginally better on defense, so look to Bart to score a bunch of points again, and look for Brockport to be decent, but not as good, on offense (how can they be ?). So expect a decent game but I expect Hobart to win by a wider margin than last year, due to the absence of Andrews and Hobart is at home. Do they get good crowds ?

Viewer,
Thanks for the analysis....but I will not fall for the trick to get Hobart overconfident ;). As far as crowds, Brockport has 3 times the student body and seems to get  proportionally larger crowds...although I have noticed that the HWS student body is not big on turnout except the Homecoming drawing 2,173 which is probably kids trying to find something to do with the parents...3 games were under a thousand last year......hey we got 1,243 for the Mount Union Playoff game(probably 250 Mount road warriors  ), but the students were on break... last years Hobart game at Brockport was 5,397 and I noticed you got 8K+ for the Fisher game.....sometimes I think the HWS students watch it on the computer...but it costs more to watch it than walk over to the BOZ(Hobart charges for internet )...so I think the turnout is somewhat disappointing relative to the quality of the team the last few years...

I hate to date myself here but I remember driving/riding the 20 some miles to NYS when the age to imbibe was still 19 and purchasing Utica Club for $1.78 a six-pack. From experience, very cold is the best way to drink it.  :)

As I grew up only seven miles from Utica, I am surprised you had to pay so much.  :)
