So I'm really excited for a Brockport-Alfred showdown. Mainly because we're looking at a late-season showdown. If Alfred and Brockport are both 8-0 heading into the game, we could have two teams sitting around 10th in the poll and looking for a statement win.

I can't really tell what would be "better" for the conference in terms of the potential to be one of the top 4 teams. Brockport's 70+ points higher in the polls now, but I feel like the reason Alfred started the year where they did were legitimate questions about how they'd be without Johnson, who was a one-man band against Mount and a 2nd-team AA.

But the E8 is constantly being touted as one of the best conferences in D3 football, so I wonder if the Saxons followed up a 10-0 regular season with another 10-0 regular season, without Johnson, that there might be some kind of—I don't want to say course correction because that implies that the voters have been wrong—but just a reaffirmation of exactly how good they were/are.

I know its, early, but I am hoping one of those teams are undefeated and gets a chance at being the east most geographical #1.

You're right. It's early. Saxons are 4-0. By no means has this team peaked....the Saxons are still finding their footing in many ways. Defense took a step forward Saterday by holding a high-scoring Buffalo State team to 3 points. Offense is not producing what the 2016 unit put on the scoreboard...granted, AU graduated 50 TDs (29 TD passes, 21 rushing TDs). Still a lot of work to do! As Tad has stated, the Saxons seem to be maintaining the focus of the task at hand rather than looking off into the future.

A few weeks back, when a few of the young guys were in the library surmising where they'd be ranked that particular week, Pep reminded them that the only ranking that really matters is whether they are #1 or #2 this coming Saturday. They seemed to receive that. This is a young squad with freshmen and sophomores taking on huge roles. Pep is just hoping the senior leadership keeps the team focused.

Pep doesn't think an AU football team can ever take lightly a game with Fisher, no matter the Cardinals' record. It's always a dog fight.

Fisher actually had a lead for a few minutes... first time since week won when they were up 14-0 on W&J....

Alumni weekend, President trolling for money at the game... hope he actually pays attention to the mess that program has become and cleans house.

Fisher is pretty horrible

AU is impressive but appear to be a bit undisciplined ... they'll continue to mash Fisher in the ground today... but as of now, not thinking they'll beat Brockport.

Well E8, I've done my obligatory 2 year check in.

Long live the 2006 Cardinals

Momma said that there would be days like this!  Wow what a drubbing at the hands of the Red Dragons. Scoring a total of 15 pts in 2 weeks is a tough prescription for winning. Especially when your 2 opponents scores 59 .

Congrats to Cortland !!!

I know my BENGALS tried there best today. If they didn't coach Boyes will deal with those who didn't

Still love my BENGALS!

Fisher is 2-8 during their last 10 games dating back to last year...

They have allowed an average of 30 points to go along with 466 yards of offense this season...

They don't have yards allowed stats kept on the athletics site that goes past 2001 but the 30 points allowed is the worst since 1998 when the allowed 31 points a game in 9 games. They went 3-6...

Hell when they went 0-9 in 1991 they allowed 28 points a game, and that's with allowing 103 points in the first two weeks that year...

They're arguably one of the WORST teams Fisher has put out since moving to the Division 3 level...

Time for a change...

the window was open but they opted to coast, to settle, instead of drive it - and what happens when that happens is what is happening

Time for a Change at Fisher indeed. . . .

Feeling bad for Fisher team members since it looked to me they gave it all they had to pull out a win last night. I know Fisher faithful are upset , but you will win a couple of games based on what I saw last night. However, there has been a downturn in talent level from prior years, which reflects on the current staff. Hope you work it out .

Other than the final score there's nothing that indicates they've gotten better or that they'll win some games this year...

Offensively they barely cracked 200 yards of offense (202)...

They gave up 280 yards rushing and 424 yards of offense...

The line play has been atrocious on both sides of the ball for a while now...

Fisher used to pride themselves on having great offensive lines, now anytime they face a defensive line that's halfway decent they can't do anything on offense...

Would have been fun to see you Tags...been a long time. Pep remembers meeting Superman at Growney at one time as well. Wouldn't have known where to find you. Seems they had alumni beer tents on every available patch of real estate around Growney.

Always tough playing a team with its back against the wall...Cardinals put up a good fight as expected. Difficult place to play (and tough to see the game from the visitor bleachers).

Alfred does what they need to do. Survive and advance. The Brockport showdown looms, and honestly, they should be a strong candidate for a Pool C at 9-1 (especially if Ithaca keeps winning).

Over the past 14 years, Fisher has averaged 8.8 wins a season, with a median number of 8.5, never winning fewer than seven.

This season, they lost their QB before the year even started, their top WR is out, and their #2 wideout has been banged up. Their first five games were against the teams currently ranked #13, #15, #17, and a Hobart team that will probably go 8-2 (with one of their losses being to that 13th ranked team). Most teams would go 1-4 against the schedule Fisher's had, and that's before losing those guys to injury.

I'm sure there's been regression in some areas. But this is a historically strong program that is having one bad half a season. They have not given up—as the 2nd half against Alfred shows—and contrary to what you believe, I think there are winnable games left.

Until proven otherwise, I think this is still well within one-year blip territory. (Think Michigan State last season)
