Hey, Pep couldn't even pull off a game between the Statesmen and Saxons when both teams had a common open date and only nine games on their respective schedules. Pep has little pull around these parts. Lots of humming with those kazoos....but no pull.  :-[

Fisher closes the season with the thud we all knew was coming.
Time to shake the tree and see what leaves fall.
This was a waste of even a bead of sweat that I had in September for the hope of a good season.
Sad really seeing your alma mater go from doormat to dominant to doormat.

91,
I hope the cycle returns to dominant for you...it must have been painful.... I know, it hurts to not make the playoffs or any post season game......

Thanks Bartman,
Its a tough pill to swallow and I look back at earlier posts and at the beginning of the season the prognosticators said that Fisher would be 5-5 this year.  I laughed..........Little did I know!
So now we go into hibernation and watch whatever sport gives us a fix until the smell of a freshly cut August lawn reminds us that its almost time to lace em up again.

Ooowwweeee.  A ton of activity at 1300 Elmwood today !  I Was walking through Houston gym on the way to basketball practice and passed by the Fisher dbs and thier coach !  Then passed by 2 of the BENGALS  seniors who will be honored today before todays game.  Got upstairs and the BENGAL cheerleaders were getting dressed in all of thier cold weather gear. They also have 3 seniors although they won't be honored until last basketball game!

Training room is on full with a hockey game scheduled for 2 pm vs Chatham and at 5pm the 1st round of NCAA d3 soccer playoffs start with Buff State hosting!  If you don't get a good feel for D3 sports on a day like today then you never will. Great day to have prospective students and parents visit too!

Go BENGALS !
Statesmen are focused on NCAA tourney Soccer tonight against the Bengals....should be a great and very cold game.....good luck to both teams

Congrats Bartman on last Saturday's win in NCAA soccer over my BENGALS!  Didn't know id be back to these boards but just found out that our football
team is in a post season bowl.  Not sure how they pulled that off but im happy for our seniors.  Play Merchant Marine Academy Friday night!

Can someone explain what Alfred was up to?

I mean, stick with what works, right? But one pass, thrown by the kicker? Casey Boston played, so they had a QB. Were they going for some record? It sort of seems odd to me

dlippiel

Anyone heard anything about Brockport's QB Germinerio? dlip believes he's scheduled to play. Is he going to be 100% (or close to it) come Saturday? dlip is really hoping the kid is going to be ok.

Well, Bombers, I was there and as in  last year's game when we threw only 11 passes it was clear they could not stop the run.  We have been prone to throwing interceptions and Coach Rankl, I am sure, just loathes that.  Hence, why pass when they can't stop the run.  And they're BAAD against the run.  Just my take.

Pep saw Coach Rankl Friday evening and asked, "So Coach, are we going to run the ball tomorrow?"
"That's the plan," Pep was told.
Pep hasn't studied the box score but if memory serves, there were few if any "passing situations."
As the game proceeded well into the second half, it became well apparent that Hartwick could not stop AU's running game.
AU had only two penalties, Pep is guessing they were 15-yarders against the defense.
In 14 possessions, AU faced only 8 third down situations, converting 4 into first downs. AU went 1-for-2 on fourth downs.
On top of that, it was "Senior Day" and Maleke Fuentes' final home game. He had 149 yards rushing in the first half...146 in the second half before being retired with 10:39 remaining.
When you average 11 yards per carry, who needs to throw the ball?

The one pass by the punter (and Pep chastised him after the game) was the smartest thing he could do, given the snap went over his head, he picked it up at about the 15 yard line with three defenders surrounding him. The incomplete pass resulted in Hartwick getting the ball at the original line of scrimmage. An attempted punt would have been blocked.

So, were they trying to get him the single-game record? Look, I don't really care. There's nothing untoward about running the ball all day. I just wondered if not throwing a single pass all day was in service toward a particular end. Because, all other fluff aside about "passing situations", everyone has had a game where they run for like, 9 yards a carry on Hartwick, and they all attempt some passes.

Pep doesn't think that was the intent, initially. But once it became apparent in the second half that he was close to the record, the O-line was asked whether they wanted to pursue the record for Maleke. They did!

Further, the Saxons have gotten intercepted too many times this season. Like ol' Alex always used to say, "If you throw the ball, three things can happen. And two of them aren't good."

It was sort of funny, though, sitting there through the entire game and at no time did it enter Pep's mind that AU should throw the ball. That's a first!

I watched a little of that game online and based on what I saw, I wouldn't have passed either.

The Wick defense was getting bowled over by the offensive line and the LBers/Safeties were really late getting to the ball.

I kept watching hoping to see 4 players top 100 yards rushing but they took Boston out early (90 yards rushing) and only gave the other guy 4 carries (still had 96 yards though)!
