24 - 0.  What does it mean?  Brockport was very close to making this game tight or maybe even winning it.  After the first quarter the teams looked even to me.  Germenerio is really good and UMHB only rushing 4 allowed him to run for enough yards to keep drives alive.  Now the pass rush was intense and forced a few mistakes, but all in all Brockport was able to move the ball once they got used to the speed of UMHB.  The defense was very good and forced UMHB to earn all they got.  As usual the game hinged on mistakes and Brockport made them early and dug too big of a whole to get out of.  This was a good showing for the East.  UMHB beat Linfield 24 - 0 and St. Thomas 24 - 10 and both of those teams are considered tier 1A so Brockport showed just as well as they did.  This also lends some credence to our thoughts that the top teams in the East were pretty good this year.  Brockport edged Del Val and was in a battle with Wesley before the 2 quick turnovers changed the game.  I do not know, probably not, if Del Val or Wesley would have shown as well yesterday but overall the East did well this year.  Brockport will be tough next year with Germenerio back again and will be the top of the East until someone says otherwise.  Del Val, Wesley, and Frostburg will have to step up the level of play to beat them.  Congrats on a great season Brockport.

Wesleydad,
Pretty much agree with you, although this could easily have been 24-14 or 24-17, but the 2 Red zone stops inside the 10 by the Crusaders were stout and that fumbled punt into the end zone was in the hands of the BPort player but squirted out(I still think the rule on the muffed punt seems weird, it should be a safety IMO...but the rule is the rule). The biggest loss to Brockport will be on the offensive line with 4 Seniors gone, 2 of whom were first string All East. Great experience for the returners and Germinerio will only get better......but that next level is like the difference between watching street cars race and Formula One when they all go full speed for a full game . Congrats again to the Golden Eagles, see you next year.

Congrats SUNY Brockport on 1 helluva season. There are 250 d3 football teams.  246 would have given their eye teeth to be playing Saturday in the semis!  Hold your heads up.  You represented your school, Empire 8 and NYS D3 Football better than anyone could have hoped for!

Kudos to the GOLDEN EAGLES!

A very solid effort by Brockport. Unfortunately as so often happens when a team gets out of it's comfort zone, early mistakes put Brockport in a hole it couldn't climb out of. To me the Brockport offensive line, which Wesleydad points out has All East performers (all 5 interior linemen are E8 first or second team all league selections) couldn't handle the CRU's pressure. Eastern football just doesn't have the same kind of big, fast, athletic D lineman that UMHB has. When we've seen such a player here, they dominate...case in point remember Hobart's Tyre Coleman.  The Brockport line just had more than they could handle.

its been said a couple of times already, but i think you got more of a flavor of UMHB offense in the 1st 3 possessions than you did the last 3 qtrs.  UMHB doesn't try to stomp on necks offensively. when they're up 3 scores they become a conservative running team that throws to keep folks honest. if something pops, they'll dial it up and try to score, but they're good with eating clock and letting the d TCOB.while BPort played a solid game and completed passes, most of them stayed in bounds and ate clock. every time Germanario scrambled or stepped up to hit a short pass over the middle, he helped UMHB burn clock. 4th and goal against the Cru has ended the same way for every team in the playoffs. i personally think that at half's end you put 3 on the board and go in with some momentum. instead you're stopped on 4th and goal and all mo goes back to the Cru. Don't get me wrong I think Bport played a whale of a game, it just played in UMHBs style of play. bport d was aggressive and played well, some of the skill positions as well. but i can honestly say i leaned over to my buddy james when they scored the 3rd td and said the rest of the game they'll be content to eat 3 minutes and punt b/c nobody has scored 21+pts on them this season.

as for the punt rule. i only knew it because the same thing happened in the chapman game on a kick off.chapman covered in the end zone and kept the ball

Having observed Coach Fredenburg for years now, he understands well that all that matters in the playoffs is the W. There are no style points. Once UMHB gets up a couple scores, like Toby said, it really works on protecting the football and burning clock. It is not that The CRU is not trying to score, but UMHB is not going to play Mach 5 with its hair on fire with a lead. Most of the time it is very successful, however, in the 2015 quarterfinals against Linfield, the Wildcats stormed back from an early 21 point deficit to win with a FG as time expired. It is worth noting UMHB had the ball on the Linfield 23 with a first down with a little over 3 minutes left in the game when disaster stuck. The center snapped the ball over the QB's head and, after a mad scramble for the ball, the Wildcats recovered near midfield. Linfield had a couple of huge plays to move the ball into FG position and chalk up a playoff win for the Cats. Linfield showed tremendous character and offensive fire power to come back in that game. I said it then and I say it now, a big tip of the hat to Linfield. However, no excuses or what ifs here - I don't believe in that at all, if there is no bad snap it is very likely the UMHB philosophy produces another win in that situation. As that particular game played out, it didn't work.

There is no way you can argue with Coach Fredenburg's success. More times than not, his approach produces Ws.

I think what has many UMHB fans on the edge of their seats this season is that the offensive line has not performed as well as in years past. Knowing well The CRU philosophy, that has some fans bit concerned at times. With that said, the defense is the absolute best I have ever seen, so, thus far, the philosophy continues to work. Will it work against Mount Union with a freshman QB at the helm and in the Stagg Bowl in, what for Texans will be, adverse weather conditions? We will find out Friday night.

I have to add, the Brockport QB is legit. He's one of the best I've seen UMHB ever play against.

Toby,
I totally understand your point about being up 21 with that defense and playing conservatively on offense, and it makes sense with that defense. You have a VERY special defense and that wins games. Your offense is certainly talented, just not in comparison to a lights out defense. We will see on Friday if the Mount coaching staff has some ways to get it in the end zone....it should be a great matchup...and the two fan bases are very knowledgeable and respectful....great representative institutions of D3 College football.
Good luck to the Crusaders on Friday

Congrats on a great year. You played tough against the number 1 team in thr nation. Many people thought it would be a UMHB blowout. Guess no one knew how good Brockport really was.
Although I am a Mount grad (oh really, MUC57, duh, would have never guessed), it was nice to see a real "East bracket". No Mount Union as top seed. Seems to me, this is the way it should be.
The "East Region" takes a bad rap every year. Justified? I'll let others debate that issue.
All I know is Brockport St. was a worthy representative of the region
I not only follow the Purple Raiders but Dlll in general. I'll have to keep my eye out next year for The Golden Eagles.(Not Boston College, the other ones)!
Have a good off season. See you next year!

As a guy that has been to SJF in person, and experienced the "greatest port o potties ever"  ;D, I almost feel like Mount has been a quasi East team for a while.  Although I thought Frostburg got dazzled by The Machine, they still never quit and kept on chugging.  I thought Brockport did the same (and more), and as long as their coaching staff and returning players take the trip to UMHB as a hard lesson, the future looks bright for them.  Consistent good if not great coaching, building on recent success, and an administration that realizes that in this increasing expensive small school economy it makes sense to help grow the football program in a positive way.  More players = more students = more tuition.

I say WELL DONE EAST....WELL DONE!
