E8 Players of the Week.

Offensive Player - Nasir Smith, RB Alfred (Sophomore, Auburn, N.Y.) 5-10 200
Smith rushed for 190 yards and three touchdowns while catching his first career touchdown pass in a 27-22 win over Morrisville on Saturday. Smith's marks in rushing yards and touchdowns are both career-highs. He amassed 211 of AU's 310 yards of offense in the game. With 190 yards rushing on the day, he was just outside of the top-10 for most rushing yards in a single-game at AU. He was also just one touchdown short of making his way into the top-10 for rushing touchdowns in a game. Smith now has 513 yards rushing on the season, ranking second in the Empire 8. He has also rushed for at least 100 yards in 3-of-4 games in 2018

Defensive Player - Denarii Beard, LB SUNY Cortland (Sophomore, Willingboro, N.J) 6-2 200
Beard recorded seven tackles, five solo, forced two fumbles, broke up a pass and returned an interception 58 yards for a touchdown in Cortland's 45-38 win at Utica. His first forced fumble force Cortland 2-yard line, followed two plays later by a Red Dragon 97-yard TD pass. Beard's interception return in the second quarter gave Cortland a 21-14 lead, and his second forced fumble caused a turnover, and then two plays later to a 74-yard Cortland TD pass.

Special Teams Player - Alex Benson, PR/WR Brockport (Sophomore, Beacon, N.Y.) 5-9 172
Benson had a solid all-around day for the Green and Gold as they bypassed St. John Fisher College 49-7 in the Courage Bowl. The highlight of the game for Benson was an 85-yard punt return that ended in points for the sophomore in the third quarter, establishing a 35-0 lead. He had five returns for a total of 123-yards. He also added a reception for a 14-yard pickup.

Fisher comes to me this weekend- Playing in Utica.
Of note- Jake Thompson isnt listed on the the 2 deep- Any idea why?
I hope for a much better showing than last week- but Utica is no slouch- and if they dont clean up turnovers 0-4 is legit.

Week 6 schedule. Octoberball. Past midpoint.

12PM  Morrisville (2-2, 0-1) @ Cortland (3-1,1-1) Mustangs and Dragons oh my. Calling for the upset here in maybe the closest matchup of the day. Mville is a bit more balanced. C st has decent offense but
                                                                        poor D.
2PM   Fisher (0-3,0-1)  @  Utica Club (2-2, 0-1)    Fisheralum91 awaits Fisher at the door. Utica is better on both sides of the ball and their offense has been surprisingly good (2nd in E8 in total offense)
The Cardinals have become somewhat of a shell of their former selves. Remember when Fisher had big offensive linemen and a running game  ? Mark
                                                                         Robinson (and Mike Foster) remember.
2PM  #4 Brockport (4-0, 1-0) @ Hartwick (2-2, 0-1)   This game was ugly last year and will most likely be ugly again this year. Hartwick cannot matchup in the trenches with Brockport's size and strength.

6PM Alfred ( 3-1, 2-0) at Buff St (1-3, 1-0)           Nightcap. Game of the week just because of the combined 3-0 E8 records. Pretty evenly matched teams on offense, Ill go with Alfred because of their better
                                                                        defense.

Thompson was taken off the field on a stretcher by an ambulance last week........

I'm surprised Michels is playing too honestly...

He took a beating too before getting knocked out...

I wonder how many QB hits Brockport had last week in the Courage Bowl

There was almost a free rusher or a brockport rusher beating the OL on every play, I'd put it at at 30-35 times that one of the 3 SJF QBs were hit at that's probably a low estimate too...

There's no central tracking of knockdowns. Hurries is in the stat software but it's not collected by the NCAA, so that means few schools bother to track it in their stats.

I blame the Fisher coaching staff. I said during the week in a post that throwing the ball every down against Brockport was a recipe for disaster. Obviously they couldn't run the ball(-55 yds rushing) but protecting the qb should have been priority. It's not like they were sitting in the pocket either. Almost all the passes were 2 and 3 step drops. They were just way over matched up front to put the qb's in that position.

Bengals look piss poor to date (what happened Coach Boyes ?)

I love me some Boyes, obviously, but this second go round with Buff State just hasn't really done much. The Whitewater win was a big deal, and they had some nice seasons in 2014 and 2015 (helped by scheduling Finlandia of all teams in 2014, but they've basically treaded water since he came back. They've gone 32-31 in conference play the last 8 years.

Still, they've yet to play a home game this year, which is a tough way to start the season

Thank GOD for home field and Homecoming!   Bengals have first decent showing since season opener.  Here's to hoping that it continues next weekend when we have our first night home game under the lights vs PEPs Saxons!

Go BENGALS

All Pep has to say about the Bengals playing under the lights at Coyer Field vs. Alfred.....FIAT LUX!

Too bad I'm gonna miss you tomorrow ( I'll be heading to Vegas tomorrow at 1).  And yes..there will be light ( watched a little of practice under the lights yesterday).   It was different .  Oddly enough our soccer team was the first team to play under the lights at Coyer.   Hope my BENGALS have something left in the tank from last week.  Alfred always seems to have our number ...and one heck of following too!

Go BENGALS!

Just another inept performance by Fisher...

Their offense is just pathetic, -80 yards rushing the past two weeks combined...

Second straight week with a 70 yard pick six...

Back in Mayberry after a D3 double dipper dandy...saw Hobart trip up Union, 29-28 at "The Boz" and then traveled west on US 20 and caught the Saxons roll to a 51-7 win at Buffalo State in the Bengals first-ever game under the (new) lights at Coyer Field.

HAHA! Pep left the kazoo locked in the car in the plaza parking lot up the street and actually missed the opening kickoff.

+K for the kazoo reference
