Way to quiet on this page. Props to Brockport for winning a first rd NCAA game for a 3rd straight year. After losing 22 seniors, a Jr AA QB, a Sph AA wr it was considered a rebuild year. This team starts only 4 seniors and is made up of almost all fr,soph !!  Props on another NCAA win and let's go get another in Allentown this week!!

Brockport has made great progress since week one when I watched them play at the Boz. I said after that game that despite the score  Brockport had a strong defense and if Freddy June was given a chance to develop that they would still be in the E8 chase. Good luck in Allentown , it will take everything the team has to get past the Mules.

Thank you Bart!! Apparently massey doesn't give Bport much of a chance. At this point they are playing with house money as far as I am concerned. A good D always travels so I guess we will see.

Good luck to Brockport tomorrow. The Golden Eagles will find out if the Mules are for real.

Forget Massey, it means nothing. Similar to the "geniuses" who predicted an 'immediate' 20-25% drop in the market had a certain election outcome occurred. THAT outcome occurred. I stayed VERY long (and shorted volatility) and things have been great. Block out the noise and play what you see.......not what you read. You and I know as much if not more than anything Massey. :)

Good man.  Interesting to see what happens here.  Lots of Cortland Grads around probably looking for this spot.  Muhlenberg's DC is one of them.... (Not saying he is looking, just that he is a Cortland grad in a position to move up...)

Not knowing Coach David personally, I would definitely agree that based on their recent performance, "Muhlenberg defensive coordinator" would be a likely person to get a head coaching job soon.

Kory David was the DC at Hobart for two years and is a great coach(2 years on Eagles staff with Andy Reid ). His wife is a football operations director for the Philadelphia Eagles, so most of his coaching in D3 after leaving the Eagles has been close to Philly for obvious personal reasons. He would be a great HC for Cortland , especially as an alumnus, but I don't know if the HC job in Cortland works with his  wife in Philly .

What's up goobers - obligatory yearly post.

Happy Holidays to everyone.

Sometimes feel like I'm getting too old for this... but it was fun 10-12 years ago and I see some of the OG's still on here from time to time.

RIP R-kal Truluck.  I had the pleasure and honor  to go head up against this great man.  Amazing player and man.  I remember in a Cortaca game my shoulder pad got tangled in his face mask and they had to delay the game for a solid minute to untangle us.  Sad to see guys you played against go so soon.

A few weeks after Coach Czarnecki passed away as well....

RIP

Curt Fitzpatrick has been chosen Cortland's new football head coach replacing retiring 23-year coach Dan MacNeill. Fitzpatrick served as head football coach at Morrisville State for seven seasons from 2013-19 and this past fall  led the Mustangs to a 6-5 record, including a 4-2 Empire 8 mark, and ECAC postseason bowl berth. Morrisville handed Empire 8 co-champion Brockport its lone league loss.Fitzpatrick guided the Mustangs to four winning seasons (2014, 2015, 2018, 2019), including one conference championship title and three postseason ECAC bowl appearances.
Prior to Morrisville, Fitzpatrick served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Utica College from 2008-12. Fitzpatrick was standout quarterback at St. John Fisher, four-year letterman and Empire 8 all-conference setting school passing records in touchdowns (30) and yards (2,366) while leading 10-2 team to Sweet 16 appearance. He was Fisher quarterback coach in 2006-07 when the Cardinals went 23-4, winning two Empire 8 crowns and the top-ranking  in New York State each season. Fisher advanced to the NCAA semifinals in 2006 and quarterfinals in 2007.
Cortland finished last season with 8-3 overall record and was Empire 8 co-champion with a 5-1 mark. The Red Dragons qualified for the New York Bowl for the program's 24th postseason berth. Cortland opens  with non-league game at Washington and Lee University in Virginia on Sept. 5 and plays The College of New Jersey in its home opener Sept. 12.

Happy to see Cortland coming to Lexington in September! I'm hoping it's a home and home. W&L hasn't ventured north of PA during the regular season in too long and I think recruiting in some critical areas like CT prep schools has suffered a bit.

It's a long trip to Lexington, but it's worth it to visit W&L and next door VMI if you are interested in Civil War history. Lee Chapel and the museum on VMI's campus are both extremely well done, there are other scattered small historical sites through town like Stonewall Jackson's House, and both schools are beautiful in their own, very different, way. The Shenandoah Parkway (Skyline Drive) has several entrances and exits not far from W&L, so if you prefer a slower route than the interstate it's easy to hop on and off at different points as you come down the valley.

W&L's Wilson Field sits in a half bowl with home stands climbing one side and relatively new upper class housing overlooking the field from a hill behind one endzone. The field sits across a long stone bridge crossing a creek from the academic campus, and the only draw back to the setting is a lack of shade on the stands (bring umbrellas if it's a hot, sunny day!).

There are great restaurants in adjacent Lexington and both campuses and the town are all easily walkable, including from the Hampton Inn or several small non-chain b&b or inns scattered through town. The campus and town are both hilly, so if you are planning to walk be aware. The farther out chain hotels will require driving, but parking is not bad on campus game days.

Sadly I don't get back to campus as much as I'd like with sports aged kids, but if you are planning to visit for game day and have questions let me know. Nice to see a new cross-region match up as W&L lists no historical contests between these 2 teams!

Someone tell Pep to warm up the band. An old rivalry with Hobart is being revived on 9/5/20.

Pep, for nothing better to do, what with zero sports going on anywhere, decided to log onto the gosaxons.com site. Aside from 16 of our student-athletes being inducted into an honor society, there wasn't much news to report. Well, maybe Pep will check out the 2020 football schedule. What? Thought Hobart came onto the schedule in 2021. Gollllleeeeeeeeeee....strike up the band! Pumpkinheads coming to Mayberry!

Saxons, coming off a 5-5 season, which at times in the long history of football that might be considered a good year, look to improve and get back to the 8-3 range they've grown accustomed to attaining. But heck, look at the home schedule! Pep will be out recruiting to add numbers to our talented little band of Mayberry Merrymakers if we'll ever put up enough points to win at home.

Hobart, Ithaca, Cortland, Brockport and Fisher all at home. We may need to dig "The Pit" a little deeper...

Road games include Mt. St. Joseph, Rochester, Morrisville State, Hartwick and Utica.
