+k to PEP for opening the E8 board this season. Congrats to Coach Yunevich for his recognition, and thank you for providing the details of his special playing career. I hope he is now recognized for his coaching excellence....it would be well deserved. Lastly, glad to see AU is moving forward with the sports complex enhancements.  This should include a significant investment in the PEP band!!

Errr excuse me Bartman.  I believe you are missing something in your last post.  Please fix it and take a lap.

QuoteUpdate from Saxonville:

Legendary Alfred Football Coach Alex Yunevich (177-85-12 from 1937-1941 and 1946-1976), has finally been inducted into the Indiana Football Hall of Fame. Yunie played his high school ball at Bicknell High School just north of Vincennes. He started at guard on his high school football team as a freshman when senior Herdis "Dick" McCrary was the big man on campus. McCrary went on to star at the University of Georgia and won a few NFL titles with the Green Bay Packers.

Meanwhile, Yunie, star fullback (replacing McCrary) for the Bulldogs, recruited by Knute Rockne to play at Notre Dame, instead enrolled at Purdue where as a sophomore, as one of the "Four Riveters" led the Boilermakers to their first Western Conference title and an unbeaten season (8-0). Yunie scored three TDs in the fourth quarter of a Dad's Day game at a packed Ross-Ade Stadium to rally the Boilermakers from a 16-6 deficit to a 30-16 win over Michigan.

At Alfred, his Saxons went unbeaten at 7-0 in 1937, his first season, just a year after failing to win a single game. He went on to record six undefeated seasons in a coaching career interrupted by his four years of military duty with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Congrats to Yunie for the long overdue honors as a player...he's also on the ballot for induction into the NFF's College Football Hall of Fame for his coaching achievements.

Yes, Pat....."an Alfred Legend."

Hi Pollster's, just wanted to extend an invitation to join the ERFP for this upcoming season. We will continue to do R1/R2. Feel free to DM or respond here if interested. I'll reach out to last year participants to gauge any interest as well.

Hello E8ers. In for my yearly check in  ;D. Will be taking in the Brockport game tomorrow. Happy football everyone .

Nice to hear from you PG.

E8 thread isn't very lively these days (years), but a nice showing this week in terms of OOC record.  I watched some of the Fisher game today and their offense was sharp.  Defense was solid too.  I suspect a significant part of that was based on the opponent.  But I'll take beating Buff State 62-21 this year over the 21-14 win they eeked out last year.

Certainly no surprise here that Cortland gets off to fast start vs. Wittenburg. Offense in good hands as evidenced by soph qb Z. Boyes' record 543 yards passing.

Interesting that Boyes found his way to Cortland inasmuch as pop Jerry was Ithaca two-time All America qb at Ithaca in mid-70s, and continued several years beyond that as J. Butterfield top coaching aide. When Jerry then went searching for a head coaching job he applied to Cortland in mid-80s. A finalist, RDragons instead went with D. Kayser who resurrected a moribund program.
Boyes soon took the Buffalo State helm and turned that program around as well besides beating cancer. In two stints directing the Bengals, he was their head coach for 25 years. No long ago Athletic Director Jerry Boyes retired after 30-plus years at Buff State.

Zac was a multi-sport standout at Kenmore.

Boyes was one of the candidates for the IC job after Buttefield left and (obviously) did not get it. Probably plays a role

I'll say it: I think the E8 is going to be even less competitive than last season. I was not impressed at all by Brockport's offense and Cortland's doesn't look like it's missing a beat

I can't say I love the idea of a weak conference, but I love the idea of winning the conference! Just have to win a game or 2 come playoff time and we know that's tough when steel isn't sharpening steel each week!

49-0 at the half! Wow!

Hilbert football to E8 in 2024 as an affiliate. Pat's front page article pointed out the Empire 8 would fall into the 2-year grace period to save its AQ if Utica leaves because they wouldn't have 4 core members. I'm thinking the long term solution is Hilbert becomes a full E8 member by 2026-27.

At some point wouldn't it seem logical that Alfred St., currently playing in the ECFC with excessive travel, also want to join the E8 or LL?

The ECFC might not even survive as a conference for much longer.

Alfred State would still have to join the E8 as a full member in order to fix that. (Or Hilbert could. Or Naz or someone else could add football, etc.)

Why?  Couldn't they be affiliate members like Buffalo State is in the LL? Is there a rule on affiliate members?
