As far as I know, only the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has a game-day wet bulb policy.

Minnesota. hmm....

Thoughts on this E8 season?

Cortland's to lose.

I know Brockport made fools of us all when they made the playoffs without Joe G, while Ithaca failed to do so with him in 2019. But since Germinerio's departure, Port QBs have thrown for 24 TDs and 30 INTs. And while their defense is usually tough and the running game solid, I just don't know if they have the firepower to survive a shootout with Cortland (or Utica).

And, while Utica was, in many ways, the story of the East last year, their showdown with Cortland — at home, no less — was the kind of performance that makes me say "I need to see you prove it before I predict it"

Cortland brings back a lot of talent, and I think they'll run the table in conference again. And they better, because what an OOC schedule they have.

Wow, Utica coming in with a 2023 roster with 80+ freshmen.

They get a DelVal team, at home, in the opener, who lost 4 defensive All-Americans and 3 other starters.................and an offense that lost 5 of their top 6 WR's. There is zero excuse, rankings aside (inflated for DelVal) for an experienced Cortland team to not roll DelVal at home. IMO.

This makes sense, but I'd also never count DVC out of anything.

On a related topic, how on earth does AJ Wingfield make the D3 preseason team over Boyes?  Wingfield is a good QB, but Boyes was third in the nation in QB efficiency, and better than Wingfeld in almost every statistical category. (Wingfield didn't even put up the best numbers in his own conference.). (Of course, there may be other QBs better than Wingfield, nationally.  I'm just saying they are clearly better ones in NY state.).

Pat Coleman

Yeah -- our voters placed them super close to each other last year in the Region 2 QB voting but Wingfield was ahead by a slim margin and there wasn't a compelling reason to switch them over the offseason.

I thought also that head to head Wingfield (and the Ithaca defense obviously) simply beat out Boyes in a big game.  They both run completely different offenses too.  It appears to me that a lot of plays Ithaca runs on offense are some sort of RPO where the QB will throw a WR screen if the numbers say to throw it.

And maybe Pat can answer this better than I can but Boyes has two years left while Wingfield has one.  It has always seemed to me that a lot of the AA lists (or even all conference lists) favor senior players over underclassmen for these awards.  Or they might at least use it as a tie breaker.

Pat Coleman

That's probably so, yes. Probably unconsciously.

Yeah, I took wondered if it was maybe just seniority privilege.  In any case, both are tremendous QBs. I also wouldn't sleep on Union's Donovan Pacatte, who put up stellar numbers last year in an offensive scheme that wasn't the best fit.

Ice Bear says their 17-10 win over Susquehanna was somewhat convincing. However that also made the smackdown they received at home from the Dragons a bit more perplexing. Ice Bear says he was certainly happier than a pig in **** for Utica's playoff W last season.

Ice says he is very curious to see what Pacatte will do this season. The Bear really ****ing likes this young man (he says not on a Chris Sharpe man-crush level, but still) and hopes he stays healthy and has a great season.

Ice asks, in your reference to last years scheme not fitting Donovan is that speaking to the amount he was asked to run the ball? Or the amount he was asked to throw long balls down the field? Or something else? Ice asks this innocently looking to learn here as he respects Palooza's knowledge.

In the past few years Union has relied heavily on deep shots, long out patterns, and WR screens.  Just speculation by my hunch is that, with his frame and height, he can force teams to defend the whole field and being highly productive over the middle.  No clue if that will be the scheme, or if we'll have the WRs who crave contact and want to run those routes.

The Aggies roster is such a former shell of itself that their #3 QB is also their #1 TE...................and their #3 LB, a 240 pounder, is playing safety. If they pull anything off this year, their staff is the Coaching Staff of the Century. They need a Mount Union/UMHB-like 80-90 players coming through the doors this time next year. Do you believe in miracles? Not so much.

Yes, but they also have to play an Ithaca team that beat them last year, and a very good Susquehanna team.
