Keep an eye out for RB Tom Bergerstock. He's from my hometown and played for the juggernaut that is Webster football. He's a smaller back a la Alex Baez but he's a strong kid, as are all Webster football players (even Mr. Napoleone can testify how big Webster's players are). I don't know if he'll crack this year's backfield considering the three-headed monster of Davis/Baez/Donovan, but I think there's a good chance we'll be seeing a lot of him in the future. Welch loves to have one power back (Giorgio, Celebre, Donovan) and one home-run threat (Madde, Greer-Carney, Baez) and I think Bergerstock will be the latter.

Does Fisher have a scrimmage this weekend?

gobombers15,

10-4. I know I would not have left a team to do it.  But, his choice.  Maybe its because he only gets 4 years and he wants to try it.  He can always go back to soccer next year.

fisher fans,
My question to you is how long is your Buffalo Bills contract?  They still have camp there, yes? Your program will remain so strong and continue to build if they keep coming.

Can the Bombers get the Jets to practice at Butterfield???

Our facilities aren't even close to big enough. A few years ago when the SUNY Cortland Sports Complex opened with its new stadium, lockerroom, and adjoining turf field, word was they were trying to lure either the Giants out of Albany or the Jets from Long Island...Maybe Dan Padovana is around to confirm or deny?

D'oh!  Thats ok, IC, for those of you outside the Bomber info email list, is building a new athletics center.  Looks really nice with a full indoor olympic track, pool, and basketball court.  Plus it has a new turf field, and two new practice fields. I doubt to be used for football most likely for Field hockey, Lax, and soccer.    People can check out what IC is building here http://www.ithaca.edu/aecenter/

dont know how long the deal w/ the bills is but lets hope for a long extension.

as for the jets---no way are they getting off the island....

so the jets are grounded on Long Island....

the bills are being paid at Fisher....

the Albany politicians are giants...

if only the browns found the pastures greener in Alfred, where we have lots of fields....(hay)fields, (corn)fields...

But we're content in Saxonville to have seven or eight high school football teams here for a week every summer and 150+ football players in pre-season camp.

Cortland actually HAD the Giants shifting training site from Jersey to Cortland in the '90s even before the new Complex was in the works.  Albany politicos got wind of the imminent move and, of course, got their way. Albany it was, a stolen base as it were. Former Cortland President Jud Taylor, a tremendous athletic booster,  was the prime shaker and mover, and nearly pulled it off. And as we said, the Complex was still a pipe dream at the time.

Since this is a football board the point needs to be made.  This new AE center IC is building looks great, but doesn't appear to address our biggest football recruiting weakness.  Our lockerroom and weight room are pretty substandard.  Even moreso when compared with Fisher and Cortland (two teams we compete for recruits with).  Something will have to be done.  At least kids are still interested in the winning tradition our program is dripping in.

The football facilities are an issue... the Dads at my school come back with some sort of sick gleam in their eye after they see Fisher's goodies.

As a Giants fan, I can guarantee you that Giants camp will never leave Albany. This is true for several reasons:

1) Location: Much of the team's fan base is located in NYC. It's easy for them to just hop on the MetroNorth and make the trip up to Albany. If it was ever moved to Cortland that would hurt the attendance. Even if didn't hurt the attendance...

2) Fan Base: Most teams that don't practice in their own city are practicing in a place where they want to add fans. Buffalo is dependent on Rochester as 1/3rd of the team's season ticketholders are from there. Down here, the Saints practice in Mississippi in an attempt to grow that market that is less than an hour or two away. If the Giants were in Syracuse or Cortland, it's just not likely that residents from those areas would go down for games. While I'm sure the Giants aren't too worried about this being the case (see 20 year wait for season tickets), I'm sure they'd use it as a reason if such a situation ever came up.

3) Local Politics: Most importantly, the city of Albany will never let it happen. The summer is the lifeblood of that city's economy. They know many NYC'ers view the Capital District as a summer vacation destination because of the Giants and Saratoga. I'm sure they're fearful that if they lost the Giants it would have a harmful effect on their local economy. I'm sure there are many people who stay around to go to Saratoga after visiting Giants camp and vice versa. They'll never allow them to leave.

Jose, I agree with your points. However, I think IC uses its tradition as a selling point. Whereas Fisher doesn't have that yet, they must focus on their new facilities to attract better players. Has IC lost good players to Fisher because Fisher has better facilities? I'm sure. But has Fisher lost good players to IC because the player wanted a chance to be playing playoff football every year? No doubt. I would like to see them add the weight room and get even more of those players. We'll see what happens.

As far as the people complaining that this is an IC board, that has only been the case for the last week or so. I remember catching up last week and thinking to myself, "my God, the Alfred fans are taking over." It goes in cycles. Many other posters (BudCrew, etc) will be returning as the season nears and relative balance will be restored. We can't help it if we have the most posters. On the Bball boards I'm one of the few IC fans that posts...RIT, Fisher and Utica fans far outnumbered me there.

Tecmo, any word on who may be winning the three-way QB competition? Any QB getting more snaps with the first teamers? Who looks the best so far?
