Come on, I'm not a player at AU first of all. Second I don't like fisher, especially when they win a few and think there gods gift. Ithaca much respect amazing program and tradition. Does fisher have tradition? They had 2 I recall GOOD years. AU has definitely worked hard to gain respect over the last few years, I'm not trying to be ridiculous and say we're the best team in the ncaa. But, AU is coming and I think there will be a few surprised fans out there

... at least Ithaca fans wish fisher the best of luck when there not playing each other.

I gotta say, at least for me, I root for Fisher when we don't play each other because I don't think of you guys as a rival.  I know everyone is going to jump all over me when I bring up Bomber history (cue RPI guys) but Fisher simply has not been good long enough for this to be a rivalry game.  This is just a game that has given one team the inside edge to win the E8 title the last three years.  In all honesty, it has never decided who wins the E8 since both teams stumbled late in the year they lost this game.

Maybe it will become a rivalry.  Who knows.  There is certainly evidence that Fisher has the ability to continue to get good players and field good teams.  But, I am just going to wait and see.  The only two teams in NY that have been consistently good year in and year out are IC and Cortland.  Amazingly, that formed the biggest rivalry.  At this point at least, the Fisher-IC game reminds me of FSU vs. Any ACC team in the 1990s.  They were everyone's "rival" because they dominated the league.  Teams got closer and closer (and the entire league has improved exponentially since FSU joined) but none rose to the level of a rivalry in the eyes of FSU.

Hopefully the quality of the matchup keeps up.  It is a game I circle when my schedule comes in recent years.  Maybe it could even rise to the level of an interconference rivalry ala Florida-Tennessee.  For now though, Fisher just hasn't been good long enough for me to know they aren't Union of the 80s, Buff State of the 90s, or Darnley's Brockport.

Jose....Congreats on the bar results! Nice seeing you at Butterfield....

I can't believe five or six pages today...and NO real HATE...at least not yet....

Have to believe that this game plays full.....not sure any parents can handle another overtime......

..and I thgought "Monkey Stomp" was copyrighted on the LL board?????

Hey Bob- What's your take on the game, I think it will come down to who makes the fewest turnovers, both teams seem about the same on paper???

AU just had their best season ever and still didnt make the NCAA's.

The Saxons' 9-2 finish in 2005 was not AU's "best season ever." Alfred has been playing intercollegiate football since 1895. And, in fact, during Homecoming on Sept. 30, AU is honoring members of its undefeated teams that include 1937, 1940, 1952, 1955, 1956, 1971 and 1981, when the Saxons were 10-0 and lost to Montclair State 13-12 in the NCAA Playoffs.

AU is in the process of restoring its winning football tradition that goes way back to 1937, Alex Yunevich's first year as AU coach, when Alfred went 7-0. The present Saxons, still on the rise, are 19-5 since 2004. AU has traditionally had a strong defense, following Yuni's belief that if the other team can't score, you've got a pretty good chance of winning. That philosophy worked very well on Nov. 11, 2005 in Pittsford, NY against the rested St. John Fisher boys that still don't know what hit them. Fisher's starting QB still hasn't recovered from the BB shots....in fact, I guess he's no longer starting?

OriginalUpstate,

AU did not "just have their best season EVER."  You aren't even close.  Just one example is the 1971- '72 undefeated Lambert Bowl Winners - that is the best "small college" team in the East.  There were other undefeated teams with awards from the Washington Touchdown Club an appearance in the playoffs around 1980 and more I don't remember immediatly.  EVER is a big word.  AU has had some tough times in recent years but has an excellent tradition.  Coach Murray, along with the intrinsic appeal of Alfred University itself, is bringing more and better talent to it's sports teams - without a Phys Ed degree program.

ER,

Thats how it has to be.  It will be a chess match.  Robbie will probably have agood to great game but we will shut some one to two of your stars down.

King 22,

Now, if you are a player, I know it is hard to not read these boards but it is just stupid to post on them and even dumber to attack other players.  Someone will hand you your head, that is, if you are a player.

Well this board is fairly entertaining this week! Keep it up.  I'll give the non-biased opinion later in the week  ;D

First off, I happen to have interned for a former fisher player who is know an NFL agent and we remarked at how bad the fisher teams have been untill recently when the great late Kathryn Keough became president and started to change the school for the better, and by the way Keough could have kicked both peggy and Bain's butt with both hands tied behind her back.  Second no fisher fan has been saying we're god, if you read any informed poster from fisher, ie me, bobby,FA91 FA2005 and ER we are realistic and have seen or heard about this team they are a very talented team.  Alfred stop taking things personally, you guys won last year and played spoiler, congrats, but to say that you have been better than either fisher or ithaca or even in the same league the last 3 years than you are blind and death, I feel that the offensive cordinator killed the fisher offense the last 2 games

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

I second the thoughts of superman.  For the most part, the witty and sometime witt less bantor is all in good fun and rivalry.  Yes, I do beleive it is a rivalry because there are varying levels of rivalry.  When posters come one say from AU, which I have respect for most of the players I played against there, and say things that are not very intelligent or relevant then those should be taken off the board.  You will get your respect when it is earned.  IC has earned it and for the most part, SJF has earned at least mine but most of the others here.

Alfred guys,

I admire the confidence you have in your team, but the discussion is weeks early. I don't know if you noticed but your schedule ends something like this:

HOBART
ITHACA
ST. JOHN FISHER

If the Merrill Field bleachers are still standing after that run, we'll know whether Alfred has something to offer. For right now, I'd focus on taking one of those three as a season-goal. Beating Springfield next week would be huge. This is supposed to be the E8 board, anyone wanna take the lead on THAT discussion?

Yep, worked wonders Nov. 11th...but you can only hang your hat on one win vs a top 25 program in 4 years for so long.

Once again how many wins have you had vs teams like IC, Hobart, Springfield (when they're not down), Cortland or Brockport in the past 4 years?

Saxon73

Super,

If you read the last two AU posts carefully, you will understand that they are not personal, but factual.  Please do not say things were written that were not written.

I think Super was referring to other AU posters and not you or Pepband

superman57

was that win Alfred being good or the fisher offense sucking, and plus 1 karma to bomber 27 for agreeing with me.  First off I'm talking more or less to King and Newschool not the resonably leval headed au posters

None against Brockport, because they don't schedule us!  Ha...I won't start that I just thought it was a good interjection!

I find it interesting that Alfred alum/posters are trying to sneak into the rivalry between SJF and Ithaca.  I do Agree that you will have to do more winning against the upper echelon to have some serious consideration.
