A few quotes from the Fisher guys in today's D&C:

http://www.democratandchronicle.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060921/SPORTS09/609210384/1007/SPORTS

My favorites:

Steve Stepnick: "I think a lot of people still see Ithaca as the standard for the area"  Props to Stepnick for showing respect.

Mark Robinson: "We lost to them in Week 4 last year and still had a chance to make the playoffs if we won our final game,'' he says. "The whole season doesn't depend on this game.''

Er...sounds like someone is hedging his bets?  I hope your son isn't already thinking of ways to explain the loss...

fisheralum91

whoa jose---
not hedging bets,
justy implying that IC could make it if they win out after a loss sat!! ;D

I agree that Fisher hasn't played the best teams in the world thus far but U of R is 2-1 with the only loss obviously to Fisher, as is King's College.  Mount Ida is...... well Mount Ida but they even won a game this year.  So while they are no Ithaca or Rowan they serve their purpose as confidence building games against OK opponents, giving Fisher time to build up momentum and trying to give them time to click before their first big test.  Personally I am a fan of how the schedule is but that's just me.

Can you really call the Fisher/IC game the "E8 championship" with springfield playing well and potentially back in the mix?  Alfred's defense (more so than there offense) can also play the role of spoiler this year.

fisheralum91

He does have a point-
What i can say is that the winner of this game is certainly in the drivers seat with the pedal down...

I think calling them "OK opponents" is pretty fair.  Although, to be more specific, I would say including Mount Ida in a group called "OK" is really stretching it, despite the fact that they have a win.  I mean, lets be honest, this is a team that at some point in the last five years had to cancel half their schedule because they couldn't find 11 warm bodies.  But I still think IC's first three games are roughly comparable to Fisher's.

Huntingdon is roughly equal to Kings. (Although when we scheduled Huntingdon I have no doubt we thought they were going to turn out to be much better.  Neverhtheless both have a quality win since getting beat by SJF/IC.)

Hartwick is roughly equal to UR. (Aside from the fact that UR-Fisher is a rivalry or whatever).

Buff State is terrible. ( I cannot bring myself to say anyone other than Husson is comparable to Mount Ida, nevertheless, not even I will argue our schedule is harder to this point becase we played Buff State).

To me, both Juvan and Kraemer are 0-0 as starters.

We talked about this a few days ago.  Actually, this game has never determined who won the conference title as the lose has had a chance to win it later in the year but stumbled.  I don't see Alfred as being a player.  Springfield on the other hand....

I would say yes...  both teams are ranked in the top 25.  One pole has them at 9 and 14 while the other has them at 11 and 25.  Since the E8's birth these two teams have been atop battling for the championship with this game being the deciding factor.  SJF could have walked away clean with the E8 a few years back but fell in their finale resulting in a tie between IC and them.   Yes springfield is on the rise but, for both programs, IC & SJF, they know this is the BIG ONE! if they win this they are favored in every game after to close out the season.  It is thus their title to lose.  Springfield could be considered the Black horse of the E8 if Alfred does not want to claim it.

Someone just directed my attention to this poll posted on Fisher's website:

What will be the headline story after the Fisher-Ithaca game?
Fisher Wins In Overtime
0%
Fisher Defense Grounds Bombers
16.67%
Ithaca Escapes Growney Stadium With a W
58.33%
Fisher Runs To 4-0 In Win Over Ithaca
16.67%
Bombers Stop Fisher's Running Game
8.33%

Nearly 60 percent of the people going to FISHER'S homepage think the Bombers win....that speaks for itself.

Growney Stadium... Buy new visitor bleachers!

They were all on the Cortaca thread Dubbz.  That thread has been removed, and thus, the posts that you had there are gone as well.

maninyellowhat

Didn't you forget your password and have to start a new handle?  I thought you were "icdubbz" before or something like that.  That too could explain it.

Fisher should take a look at the visitors' stands at Boswell Field in Geneva. Lots of seating with a decent view when the seagulls aren't in flight.
In truth, at the very least, Fisher should turn those taller bleachers around to face the field; it would help.

Anyone who so wishes may send cards/letters/e-mails of encouragement to Julio Fuentes:

Sophomore Julio Fuentes, who was injured during an AU football game against Thiel College Sept. 9, continues to recover at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Rest is essential to his recovery, so his family has requested that we limit visitors as much as possible and send cards, letters and e-mails instead.

Cards and letters may be addressed to Julio Fuentes in care of Strong Memorial Hospital, 601 Elmwood Ave., Rochester, NY 14642

E-mails, which are delivered to paitents by the staff, may be sent to: https://www.stronghealth.com/patientsvisitors/secure/frmEmailPatient.cfm

If you do plan to visit Julio, his family has asked that we limit our visits to between 5 and 7 p.m. so that he can undergo treatments and get the rest he needs. Thank you.
