Madden Curse Strikes Again!  Shaun Alexander has a broken foot... People around fantasy football world gasp for air...

You don't agree with me... I said polls in D-3 football are useless and don't matter!!

Should I feel guilty for supporting the Falcons tonight?

OK I'm locked in... looking to go 3-0 on the weekend.

Won with Cleveland, pressed with Denver...

Now a small play with ATL -4.5.... I'll be happy if I'm wrong, but I have a bad feeling it may get ugly.  Brees is the real deal though.

While Brockport does have a lot of returning starters, the number is slightly deceiving. A majority of the starters come from the offensive side of the football. The Eagles have just one returning starting linebacker and defensive back. Obviously the younger players have filled in well and made people forget about the other backers.

That being said, the weak spot is still the linebackers and secondary. AJ Covella, the starting QB at the beginning of last season, was going to move to safety, but he's no longer listed on the roster and never played a down as far as I can tell. Mike Maciejewski returns in the defensive backfield and he's a converted wide receiver. He's very good and is the captain of that unit with the two other players being brand new starters - Ryan Hynes and Matt Rice. I don't see Hynes having played at Brockport last year so I would assume he's a transfer.

The linebackers are youngish but putting up decent numbers - Jarrett Woodfork, Tim Weber, Drew DeRoo and Matt Bennink. Strength is the defensive line. No surprise there. Bowerman, Marriott and Buck are as good as they come. They'll give you a very long day.

However, I think it's hard to judge how good this defense is. They gave Cortland a good game. But, Salisbury's not really near where they used to be with all the graduations and Frostburg is kind of a mess right now on offense. Three points between the two is very good, but I'm not very confident in either of those two offenses. And from what I've gathered in talking to people at the Cortland-Brockport game, Cortland's offense didn't look very crisp that day. Combination of decent defense and Cortland stinky offense.

With good blocking and a confident quarterback, the defense is beatable. Brockport's defense is usually above average but struggled at times the last few years after the Bierley and Condello years. A strong passing attack might just be what the doctor ordered to cage the Golden Eagles. The running game's a good option and it'll need to get going just enough to set up the pass. Brockport defense runs 4-4, so rushing will be tough.

Was the collection taken up at Fisher something that they decided to do on their own, or was it something that all the E8 home teams did over the weekend?

Thanks John....I suppose we have to wait and see how the Bombers get started....They have started quick in  every game this year, Fisher included.....I think we can assume that everybody's tail will be on fire at the start of the second half this week.....

I know it's one game at a time...but I'd like another visit to Growney this year....I'd like that trip a lot!

Feelin' it already..... four days to B-port....!!!
"We bust ours so we can beat yours..."

I second that.  How cool would that be if Fisher and Ithaca met again at Growney in the playoffs.  Sweet mercy

Tecmo, you know I'm a big fan of yours but that was just a stupid play. The NFC Pro Bowl team would not have beat the Saints tonight in New Orleans. This city was insane tonight. For all you fantasy players out there, if you don't have Marques Colston yet, get him. He's the real deal. He will be one of the top WR's in the NFL within 3 years.

real quick... i missed yesterday and sunday as I was, and still am, on the DL.... BUT, does Welch have to do the Grid iron report??? is that something that is in his contract? Does he have to do the local, student ran, football interviews??  Just wondering?

I doubt that it's contractual. That said, Welch is a classy, professional individual and would not hang the Grido Report out to dry after a tough loss. What would that say about him if he showed up only following wins?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Gridiron Report goes back to the Butterfield days.

And he's got TE eligibility!

The Gridiron Report goes back a long way...I don't know how long, but definately a long time.  As stated above, there is no contract but it is expected unless there is sickness or whatever.  Also - it works both ways, it is good for the team, players, school, etc... and the sponsors allow someone from the show to be at every game, home and away.  Welch is so used to doing it, he even made a point to make it to a number of SportsFinals during the year where there was no grido.
