Bob- sitting there watching the second half on Sat.,must have been like what I sat through last year at the SJF/ AU game- kept waiting for the offense I know was there to kick in-good luck against B-port this weekend, I'm sure you'll bounce back-good programs usually do

fisheralum91

er-or anybody that was at the game..
I missed a ton of reading being gone during the wknd, so could you give me the quick uptake...

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Gridiron Report goes back to the Butterfield days.

The Gridiron Report goes back a long way...I don't know how long, but definately a long time.  As stated above, there is no contract but it is expected unless there is sickness or whatever.  Also - it works both ways, it is good for the team, players, school, etc... and the sponsors allow someone from the show to be at every game, home and away.  Welch is so used to doing it, he even made a point to make it to a number of SportsFinals during the year where there was no grido.

Yeah...ESPN's Karl Ravech hosted the show at one point while Butterfield was the coach

Ok guys,
dont worry about the info- got the reading done...

Good to see section three guys contributing!(Kramer, Reile)

Now wick...

tecmobowler

Ithaca dominated the first half.  Marched down the field with ease on the first possesion.  Had two drives stall out within the ten, that resulted in only three points.

Fisher must have had around 30 yards the entire first half.  Ithaca stacked the box, Fisher's run went nowhere.  Passing game was ugly due to poorly thrown balls, and easily catchable drops.

Fisher begins to throw some misdirection in at the start of the first half.  Ithaca LB's and secondary bites on it.  Robinson runs 60 yards on a third and short during Fisher's first possesion for a TD.

Fisher sends the house defensively... Juvan with happy feet. Sacked at fumbles at Fisher ten.  Fisher scores on next play (run to the left tackle).

All downhill from there for Ithaca. Fisher has great field position throughout and runs at will. Ithaca abandons the run when they get down a couple scores, but the Fisher pressure is too much.

Reile did little to nothing.  Kramer looks a lot better when he rolls out.

real quick... i missed yesterday and sunday as I was, and still am, on the DL.... BUT, does Welch have to do the Grid iron report??? is that something that is in his contract? Does he have to do the local, student ran, football interviews??  Just wondering?

I doubt that it's contractual. That said, Welch is a classy, professional individual and would not hang the Grido Report out to dry after a tough loss. What would that say about him if he showed up only following wins?

It definitely goes back to Butterfield.  If you read his wife's book, there is a photo in there of him on the show looking pissed off (maybe JohnnyUtah missed an assignment) that has to be from the early 80s.

My impression of Coach Welch has always been similar to my impression of Fay Vincent.  He respects his predeccessor so much (how could he not?) that he intends on conducting himself in a similar manner.  That, to me, is one of the secrets of IC's long term success.  You get the feeling that the program is managed from top to bottom in the same way it was during Butterfield's glory days.

P.S. I once heard Ravvy claim to have played Safety for Ithaca on the air.  It appears that wasn't true.

fisheralum91

thanks for the info---
perhaps a rematch-
that would be great!

tecmobowler

Fisher had the ball for a minute and thirty seconds in the first quarter, and seven minutes the entire half.

They then proceeded to score toouchdowns on five straight drives in the second half.

Insane.

was it the ability to know that the box was going to be stacked and then go to the air?

I didn't see the game but, it sounded less like strategy and more like flat out effort and desire that turned that game in Fisher's favor.  I suppose coaching and strategy plays a role but, in the end, you guys just kicked our tails everywhere on the field.  That goes beyond where the coach drew the circles to me.

fisheralum91

got it...

Good luck against bport!

theicdubbz

assume B-port beats IC and Fish but then losses to Springfield and Hartwick.  Fisher losses to Alfred... that results in a 3 way tie for the E8.  now what? do we go to a Friday Night Lights style with a coin flip? if so... WELCH USE THE '91 quarter!

fisheralum91

dubbz,
that is a scenerio that is not only highly unlikely, but comically insane!!
