Playing at cortland i have heard a lot of these kind of commnets....usally in the cortland/ic game....while i agree it's part of the game...we as athletes learn to let it roll off our shoulders, but i can understand why other fans may get upset, espically if they bring thier family to the game to see their older brother play college football.....but as i just mentioned, as a player u learn fast as a young kid to let this stuff not bother u....i cant recall how many times i have been called the "N" word on the field, and payed it no mind, just got back in there the next play and took my revenage, any way i had.....i also always found it a complamnet in a way...i can remember playijng at buff st. back in 99 or 98, and the vistors used to have to walk through the home stands to get to the field, and being taunted and having things thrown at us, we loved it....its almost a sign of respect that at least they know ur there.....

Not to harp on this issue of how appropriate or inappropriate the FDC (or college fans in general) are, but I think it deserves more discussion.  First, it is interesting that the complaints are usually lodged by other fans.  If something inappropriate is said to a player (and all the ex-players in this room--including JoseQ--have a story of the most ridiculous thing a fan ever said to them) and it doesn't bother the player, then maybe other fans should let it slide as well.  Second, it seems that this is discussed much more in the small college context.  I have two theories on why that is.  (1) When there are only 2,000 fans at a game, you can hear what specific people say much more clearly (in contrast to the total inability to hear what specific fans say when 100,000 people are shoe-horned into Florida Field) (2) Big time athletic programs are more used to die-hard fans on both sides and, thus, expect at least a few fans to get out of hand.  I don't think it is unreasonable to give college kids at IC the same leeway we give college kids at UF.  When they step out of line, the boys bring them back.
No matter where we go, it's about who we are.......C-STATE!!!!!!!!

The new Man in the Orange hat will not be attending the game at 'port.  I have family coming this weekend.  But I do have two of those instant grills and was told to bring them to the game.  icdubbs  or anyone in the Ithaca area want to pick them up???

As for the article about the FDC, things could be alot worst.  If the only thing they can pick out of our cheers is the one where we say "you suck", I don't think it's that bad.  Also, it's a football game!! Things aren't always all nice and friendly.  Along with the hitting, the cheering can get nasty sometimes.  But I know we (the FDC) try to keep things sportsmanlike.
All hail the Booga

Lumpy, are fullbacks the middle child of the backfield?  The red headed stepshild if I may

Bomber27,

Its a relentless position, Bam feels the same way, but at the end of the day, if all the battering and head knocking he did gave the team a "W" then he knows he did his job so that othere could excel at thiers! all in all i suppose it is a good feeling but rarely do fullbacks get recognition for thier contribution.

I would love for that psychologist to have come to the Fisher game. Or Cortaca! Can fans drink themselves into a coma in the spirit of whatever, as long as they don't shout "you suck?!"

I do think IC should get rid of the "state school" chant, because to me classism ain't much better than racism, and it's hard to paint that cheer as anything but classist. I think cheers should stay within the context of the game. Those of you at IC a couple years back may remember a letter to the Ithacan I wrote when a certain broadcaster (attending the game as a fan) yelled at a black player to "go back to Harlem." A freakin' broadcaster! Granted, the kid was from Harlem, but you just can't ignore negative ramifications that come with what you say, no matter how true it is.

But "you suck"... come on! Hartwick does suck! Someone had to say it.

And let's revisit "I facebooked your Mom" for just a second. (I promise I won't dwell, rowdyrowdy). I think the adults at the Fisher game took that one a little too seriously because a) his mom was probably there, b) it was really quiet at the time and that was the only thing you could hear, and c) they don't know what it means to "facebook" someone. To me, "I facebooked your mom" is actually somewhat more innocent than a lot of things that have been said about people's moms. The parents at Fisher probably thought "facebook" referred to something much more perverse, but in actuality, it just refers to looking someone up on the internet because you're too intimidated to actually talk to them.

I agree....I always thought that cheer was unnecessary and made IC fans look bad... besides, "State Schoolers" can smile every month when they get their Student Loans bills that don't look anything like ours.

that being said, I always enjoyed (because of the irony) Cornell Hockey fans yelling "Safety School" at Harvard fans

Poor Hartwick.  That is some funny sh*t.  Maybe their coach said it...would that make the letter less meaningful?

"I facebooked your mom"

Damn I wish I was there for that.  Nice work whoever came up with this one.  That has to go into the FDC Hall of Fame.

grand pere

I have read here and on other sites about how one player usually a rb is carrying the whole team on his back. Then you check the stats and find that the defense is giving up 6 points a game-the o line is huge and quick and the staff is great a play calling and setting defenses. These comments demean the other players. One player may be excepitional and motivate, however, I have been following football- high school-college and pros for over 50 years and i have NEVER seen a one man team

huh,
i am missing the point.... ???

The King and his Court was basically a one man team.  If you didn't see them you really missed out.

He gave real meaning to the nickname "Fast Eddie." I remember seeing him in Hornell or Wellsville as a kid.
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!

Based on email address grand pere = Fisher player parent.  More accurately, grand pere = Fisher backup parent.

+k to you PepBand for knowing the King.  I thought that joke may cruise over all heads in the room.  My dad took me to see him when I was little.  The guy must have been 60 and he was just mowing down big leaguers.

fisheralum91

if he is a fisher parent why would you even mention this?

is mark r the ONE MAN?

last i checked the whole team has been applauded for their "team" efforts....

esp by mr r.....
