AU is there any way we could get you to lead the IC pep band?

Perhaps a trade is in order.

I'm willing to offer "bomberman" for AU Pep band stright up... I'd even throw in a case of PBR if that's what it took to get the deal done.

Here's a suggestion for IC's Pep Band...if the band wants to become more of a factor in the game (much as FDC is IC's "Twelfth Man"), it should drop its own agenda. Play list should be tunes to play in response to what's happening on the field, not songs that the band wants to play.

I.e.:
IC gets a first down...."Let's Go Blue!" (Michigan does it every time)
IC gets an interception..."St. Thomas"
IC opponent penalized..."Dragnet"
IC touchdown..."Fight Song"...does IC even have a fight song? If not, write one! Incorporate the "ooga booga" cheer into it, I mean, what the heck? A Bomber TD is cause for extended celebration in the stands!!

AUPepBand has been told by AU players that they get pumped up when we play after a first down. Players know AUPepBand is into the game, not just doing our own thing.

On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

MIYH: Softball team making progress?
Just got annual letter asking AUPepBand if he will be coaching Biddy Basketball at the Y again this year. First day of practice Nov. 4 with most leagues starting Nov. 18. Wish they started a few weeks later, creates conflict with AU making post-season last two seasons.

Seems the YMCA's insurance company now requires background checks on all employees and volunteers...shall I confess to playing kazoo?

I have been coaching 10 year olds at the Y this fall.  Best part is, they are so young and inexperienced you can't get mad at them.  This is way better for my blood pressure than the high school team I coached in Tallahassee.

Biddy Basketball is 10-, 11-, 12-year-olds. Best age group IMO because they're not convinced they know it all.....yet. Not much of a coach here. They learn some things about the game but more importantly, at that age, they learn to enjoy the game. We have fun. Does much for AUPepBand's ego, as well, as the old man "schools" the kids in scrimmages during practice. (Usually only have 9 kids on the team).

Jose: +k for coaching 10-year-olds...you gotta love 'em!

IC Pep Band's playlist

IC gets a first down....Theme from "Coach"
IC gets an interception...Theme from "Coach"
IC opponent penalized...Theme from "Coach"
IC touchdown...Wisconsin Fight Song (Which I think 80% of high schools and colleges have used as their fight song).

Yeah, On Wisconsin.  Does Wisconsin have more than one fight song?

It's time to reveal the ugly truth... I was a music major at IC..... I know these kids you're talking about, they wouldn't know a first down from an interception if it bit 'em in the ass. They probably think the FDC's main goal is narration for the fans.

Also, in real life, Bomberman is a smelly, unpleasant dude. Sorry to ruin it for ya kids.

fisheralum91

On wisconsin is the only one i know...

However- best fight song ever-----Hail to the victors!

maxpower

FDC kind of turned "Ithaca Forever" into a fight song....

Speaking of alma maters, is there some law that they all have to sound the same?

If by Hail to the Victors you mean Come on Gators, Get Up and Go. I agree.

I had a class once with bomber man.  He seemed nice enough.  There may be a new one, I htink he graduated.

Maybe it was a different guy, although this guy's been around as long as I can remember (not long). Another thing about current Bomber man is that while his disposition is generally pleasant, he can really fly off the handle. I was playing hockey in the fitness center with a bunch of people and he showed up, and when he thought he got gypped on playing time he starting screaming and throwing his stick and stuff. It was actually pretty funny, albeit uncomfortable.

fisheralum91

hail to the victors...valiant....hail to the conquering heros..hail, hail Michigan.....

I'd have to rate the Notre Dame fight song as the most popular or most well known...grew up watching Notre Dame highlights Sunday mornings, so heard it a few times. That song has been adopted by high schools everywhere.

AU's fight song, "On Saxon Warriors" was written by long-time AU music prof and carillonneur Ray Wingate. Heard it played by AU's ROTC marching band after Saxon TDs in the '60s.
