AUPepBand,

You are correct.  Utica is at Ithaca.  Also, Hartwick is out of town, so I have nowhere to go.

OK, I'm trying to plan a trip to the Southern Tier.  Also working on getting some PA boys in the next recruiting class.  The Drum Major is in a perrenial powerhouse football school.  Hoping for the best.

Assuming you graduated from Fisher in 1982, did you play at Fisher during club football era? Or more recently, with a jersey #82?

Just got a mailing from Admissions today with an application to pass along to any viable AU prospective students. If you can get a feel for prospects' academic strength, perhaps you can contact Admissions about getting a few applications to pass along to them. (Included was a $40 application fee waiver).

All right, dropping the third person....my dad took me to AU games since I was out of diapers and I got hooked on the Saxons. Been a lifelong fan. Started the AU Pep Band in 1999 as a kazoo band, followed by real musical instruments in 2000.

So you played with Scooter Hendrick and Krumie Mabry....who defected from AU after a 6-3-1 season at Alfred in '94 I believe.

Ironically, Mabry was a Pre-Season All-American at Alfred for the 1995 season....a season in which he played for Fisher.

Wow you know your stuff...yep, both were rochester high school products (and D1 talents as you probably know).  I didnt remember that Krumie went to Alfred though...I thought he had gone to Grambling, got shot in an 'accident' and wound up at Fisher.  Scooter, when he wasnt causing trouble, was an excellent back and receiver...we had a very good sr. qb (Mike Zarillo) so Scooter got limited action there and Krumie palyed at strong safety...

Incidentally, my first trip to AU was Week 2 Freshmen year ('95) as I somehow made the travel team as the 7th string WR at the time ala Rudy...I got to hold the clip-board all nite in the cold...AU won I think the score was alot to a little...we finished 4-5 that year.

AUPepBand,

I hear what you are saying.  I have given info to a couple of the AU ass't coaches and am working on the other end with my daughter.  She got into Powder Puff football this year and is gaining an appreciation for the game.  There are some very good players there but it is tough to get from "here to there" because of the roads.
Anyway it is not all that far from Alfred

Now there's a Panda Chinese Restaurant next to Alex's, a DP Dough across from Alfred Sub & Pizza Shop, Old West Food Company w/bar, Terra Cotta Coffeehouse, Little Sicily Pizzeria down the road approaching Tinkertown, which includes a Subway with the ArrowMart gas station (formerly was College Mobil)....not to mention Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut on Alfred State campus

Those three were mainstays at State while I was there.....

Wow they really spruced up the place since i left, me and the wifey might just take a trip down there when SJF goes to AU....

I've only been to Alfred and the surrounding area once. I'm not a big fan of the "Highlands." While they are certainly beautiful, the upper elevations not only get early snow but also get some nasty summer storms. After I was there two summers ago, one of the cement bricked dugouts at Alfred State was turned to rubble after a particularly bad storm. I remember just driving to Alfred and Hornell there were lots of hills and the bus had trouble getting up the hills around Alfred.

And it's funny you mention the Subway at the gas station. I have actually been to that particular establishment. I was doing play-by-play for a summer baseball team. The team had a game at Alfred State at like 1:00 pm and when we left the hotel, there wasn't really much in the way of food near the hotel. We ended up eating at the Subway at the gas station and being there for upwards of an hour. It got to the point where it was noon and the other team sent their coaches out to find us because no one had showed up for batting practice. To make matters worse, there was one girl working at the Subway and about 25 of us. Poor girl. Probably wanted to jump off a cliff when we walked in.

We ate at a fancy-type restaurant that night though I don't remember the name. I must say that I don't think I've been to a place like that where there was so little to eat.  Sounds like there are restaurants but when you're on a big school bus, its hard to find those little, out of the way places.
