Chris - I'd say yes and no.

This whole thing is still way up in the air, so in theory anything is possible.  That being said, AU would need a lot of help to get a Pool C bid.  Right now Springfield has the inside track at the pool A and SJF has the inside track at the pool C.  AU needs losses from IC, SJF and SC to get in.

chris7sarge

Say AU ends up with 2 losses.  Am I correct in my assumption that the committee would never take 3 teams from the E8?  Are we looking at another fluke team in an ECAC playoff game like the doormat that came to Alfred last year?  I just get the feeling that AU has become that team always on the verge.  We are the Rodney Dangerfield of that conference- very good, but no respect.

fisheralum91

please dont start with the respect crap..

You sound like a whining college kid...

You have a decent team- leave it at that

realistic

well...on the verge and no respect are 2 different things.  Basically the top tier in the league (SC, IC, SJF) are fighting for 2 playoff spots.  It isn't a "respect" issue with AU at this point, it's a "didn't do enough to get in" issue.

A lot can happen in the next three weeks, but the A bid is SC's to lose and the C is SJF's to lose, with Ithaca still controlling their destiny if they win out.

chris7sarge

Haha.
I'm just saying that the last 2 years have been dissapointing coming down the stretch.  Am I correct that we still have a chance if we can beat both Ithaca and Fisher and drop one to Hobart (who may be the most vulnerable of the 3)?

Furthermore
As for the respect issue, I was alluding to both last year and the posting on this website.  Let's not forget that AU beat Fisher last year, was up 14-13 on Ithaca going into the 4th, and this year have come the closest to beating an unbeaten Springfield.
As for not doing enough to get in, well, you're right.  We've had the chance to control our own destiny the last two years and didn't get it done.  Plain and simple.  But, as in years past, isnt AU's destiny also in its hands?  And I like that right hand of Paul Keeley and the defense that AU has brought to the table over the last 3 years (even without Brady).  Where did Keeley come from anyways?  Sorry had to slide that shot in there.
I'm not whining.  I'm a fan.  I like football.  Like AU.  Nothing to whine over though.

realistic

no - as I said above, AU needs A LOT of help.  Their destiny is firmly in the hands of SC, SJF and IC....if they lose out then AU has a shot.

fisheralum91

sarge-you are whining.
make it happen on the field
thats it...
im glad you are a fan - but even the most ardent AU fans pep kazoo etc- dont moan and groan about respect

chris7sarge

Alright,
I'll let it go.
I've been somewhat outta the loop this season being down south.  Does Fisher have anyone as a possible stumbling block besides AU coming down the stretch?  How bout Ithaca?  Are there any teams like that of a Norwich 2 and 3 years ago with a kid like Garcon that might get hot and knock someone off?

fisheralum91

Fisher should take care of biz at UC this wknd, and keep focused goin into the AU game..
AU looks to be playing the role of spoiler this year, i however dont see it happening.

chris7sarge

Pardon me if I didn't gasp in shock from your outlook on the homestretch.

fisheralum91

why?
I think in all reality- thats the way it goes down--
yuo have another theory?

realistic

Sarge - ithaca has a tough run coming up.  Springfield this weekend, AU next, then Cortaca.  Its tough, but even if IC falls in one of those, it's still SC, SJF in place for the playoffs.  Sorry man, but it ain't happening for you this year.

Contrary to what has been posted, AU is, in fact, in control of its destiny. AU wins out to finish 9-1. Hmmmm....Saxons knock off three straight nationally ranked teams at Merrill Field, essentially "spoiling" the NCAA playoff hopes of at least two (SJF & IC), maybe even three depending on Hobart's LL finish.

Opportunity is knocking at Merrill Field. How hungry are the 2006 Saxons? Is this the year AU rises above the self-proclaimed E8 elites? Is Alfred's "No-Name" Defense of 2006 as good as Brenton Brady's Boys? Can AU's diversified attack (who the heck can anyone key on?) move the ball against the statistically stacked Hobart, Ithaca and Fisher defenses?

For $15 ($5 admission per game) you can see these questions answered at Merrill Field. And for an additional $5, you can have your very own limited edition AU Pep Bandana.

GO SAXONS!!!
On Saxon Warriors! On to Victory!
...Fight, fight for Alfred, A-L-F, R-E-D!

fisheralum91

and for free you can watch AU in the ncaa's cuz it wont happen

Pep - even if AU wins out, they still need a lot of help from others.  If they finish 9-1, they easily spoil Hobarts season but still will be on the outside looking in for the NCAAs.
