The Kaz00 is still smarting from Saterday's loss.  Watching Kaz00 Jr. tear up PepBand's house at the after-game was a nice pick-me-up, but doesn't feel as good as a win.

Congrats to Hobart; it was a well played, exiting game from the start.  And you could tell how important it was for both teams by the reaction on the Hobart sideline when the ball hit the turf on fourth down.  It was frustrating to be a Saxon fan though.  It was one of those games where seemingly every close call went the other way.

Here's to hoping that Alfred can pull out a win on Saterday and give meaning to the finale against Fisher!

AU Pepband- listened to the game on the radio on saterday.  Heartbreaking.  Cant believe niche fumbled that ball.  I was up and down like a bipolar danny bonaduce in a matter of a couple minutes (VH1, no?).  I wanted to raz him a little but refrained cuz of the outcome.  Still played well though, and who knows.  Maybe some magic on Saterday.

Couldn't see it from where I was, but one (AU) source at that end of stadium said he was 2 yards into the end zone when he lost the ball...but there were at least three Hobart players there trying to make the stop. Source said one ref blew the call, the others would not overturn it. Apparently, the one ref said he lost control just inside the 1. Grrr. Hard lesson to learn....more important to retain possession of ball than to dive into end zone. Same with 4th down interception inside the 10...we'd have had the ball at 24 if we bat it down.
Can't take anything away from our boys, though....they gave it their all. Was a great game!

AU Pep Band, hopefully back to full strength this week, also looking for Magic at Merrill on the menu Saterday.

In an effort to unlock the mystery of the three-way tie between SJF, Ithaca and Springfield, I've computed what would happen if all three of those teams win out this season.  As you remember, the tiebreaker that will decide this tie will be the NCAA's Quality of Wins index ("QoW").  It is tough to gauge how such a tiebreaker will come out because all teams on all of the tied teams' schedules still have games left, making the QoW score vulnerable to several swings.  However, with only one or two games left for every team, there is a lot more certainty.

Ithaca

Opponents Left:  at Alfred, at Cortland
QoW with Two Wins:  10.333

Opponent Left:  at Alfred
QoW with Win:  10.900

Now, we must take into account how vulnerable each of these QoW indices are to swings.  Two E8 teams could affect each of the tied teams' QoW, but each of these two teams would have an equal across-the-board effect on the QoW.  Thus, we can ignore the Utica and Hartwick effects.

The non-E8 teams that could have an effect are as follows:

For Ithaca:  Buffalo State (Could Add 0.222)

For Springfield:  Montclair (Could Add 0.200)

For SJF: King's (Could Add 0.200), Rochester (Could Subtract 0.200), Mt. Ida (Could Add OR Subtract 0.200)

From this, the following observations can be made.  Assume the best case scenario for Ithaca -- namely, that Montclair does not add to Springfield's QoW, and Buffalo State does add to Ithaca's.  The best possible QoW for Ithaca (ignoring E8 opponent swings) would be 10.556.  The lowest possible QoW for Springfield would be 10.800.  Therefore, ITHACA CANNOT CATCH SPRINGFIELD in this three-way-tie scenario.

As for SJF, it currently appears that it has the advantage in the QoW tiebreaker.  SJF's position would be solidified this situation if:  (1) Rochester wins at least one more game, (2) King's wins both remaining games, (3) Mt. Ida wins both remaining games and (4) Montclair loses at least one game.  Essentially, since the SJF/Springfield margin would be 0.100, and each of these occurances would swing their QoW by 0.200, even a single one of the first three events, assuming the fourth event (Montclair) happened would have a marked effect.

Thus, in a three-way-tie between SJF, Ithaca and Springfield, we know that Ithaca is eliminated, SJF can still win the E8 and there cannot be a tie, as Springfield's six home games will always place it 0.100 off kilter with SJF.

Kaz00 Jr. definitely unearthed some stuff PepBand hadn't seen in awhile.... glad it gave you a pick-me-up.....Pep Band Jr. did the "pick-it-up" and house was back in order when Pep got home from library last night. Good time with hearts and spades Saterday night....Saterday night's alright!

Thanks for the info!!  Everything I have heard points to Lycoming and King's heading to the E8 for football at some point.  Sounded like our relationship with Buff State (and Brockport?) was coming to an end after this year.

Really? I did not know that about Lyco and Kings.....

The Buff state game is the reason why IC wont go to the playoffs this year....

Its a shame too, was looking forward to the rematch....

Rumors have it that we are playing Kings and Wilkes next year......the winds of change are upon us..... and I would trade a game with Hartwick or Norwich for a Brockport game any year!
