the only thing i can see remotely as coaching let downs are AU and Del Valley over the last few years...

AU was a mental breakdown.

Del Valley was a let up.

Still- tough to blame coaching for missed opportunites and miscues...

Frank- what was the issue with the Fisher coaching?

The other Fisher guys know the answer to this in greater detail but from my observation I think he has 3 main shortcomings:

1.  His teams are woefully underprepared.  I don't know if he is bad at preparation, lazy when it comes to preparation, or one of those coaches that believes in the Bobby Knight mantra of "we don't adjust, you adjust to us."  Either way, Fisher never seems ready for obvious tendencies of opponents.

2. He is bad at utilizing his talent.  I suppose this is due in part to his strength in bringing in a lot of talent.  Nevertheless, there is no reason Mark Robinson is not getting 30+ carries a game, especially with Fehrenbach gone.  I know Reile was decent after Robinson got hurt last fall but heck with that.  A player of Robinson's caliber should always get the rock.  Also, how does Suchnya start the year at QB?  It's not like he set the world on fire last fall.  Clearly, Kramer is much better.  Vosburgh had to have seen that in practice.  He is lucky they didn't lose a freak game under Suchnya.

3. His teams have come out flat at bad times.  I know it is cliche to pin this on the coach but, there is no reason for Fisher to have stumbled when they have stumbled the last few years.  They would have won the E8 outright two years ago, and would have made the playoffs last fall without devastating late season stumbles.

I gotta say one thing (surprised, I know).  SJF has come from "bottom-fisher" in the Upstate New York region to strong competitor over the last five years.  They've compiled a schedule in that time that I really was impressed by year after year.  They've grown from that schedule, no doubt.  I don't care what team you are -- if you can come from the ashes and into the national spotlight with that sort of schedule in this sort of competition, then you can't have a bad coach at the helm.  I think their success points to a very good leader at the helm -- and obviously good players.  However, how many times in sports do we see a collection of good players go by the wayside because of poor leadership and cohesiveness?  I think statements criticizing the SJF coaching are somewhat short-sighted.

No one said the guy didn't turn the program around.  I am just saying they should be better and here are his shortcomings as a coach.  I also don't know how much credit he personally deserves for turning the program around.  The Head Coah at Fisher is named Paul Vosburgh, not "Ralph Wilson" or "Bills Lockerroom."

Those were two big let ups.  I would add SC to this list as well.

The coach isn't solely to blame but he can't avoid the blame either.

Frank,
While they have acquired incredible facilities over the last five years (and that has been a HUGE asset).....they recruit extremely well.....and their coaching staff top to bottom, especially Vosburgh, Scachetti & Faggiano are great guys.

let it also be known jose that the bombers display pictures of the roster while the dragons do not

Cstate, Jose and I have access to more pictures of Cortland teams and players than you would care to think about. Plus Jose has already displayed his proficiency with Google. You say you spent some time standing on the sideline at Cortaca? A CState19 sighting might not be out of the question....

"I've heard Vosburgh is legendarily bad at preparing for certain teams."

I've heard similar statements from former Fisher players. Certainly there are more expectations for his program now that they have that facility, compared to when he first arrived.
Thousands of fans join in the revelry, showing their Bomber pride and support for the football team. Some fans take the rowdiness a little too far, however, by starting fights, damaging property and tipping Port-a-Potties. -Ithacan, November 10th
