PORT,

I have to agree with you.

Norwich is geographically challenged, Hartwick is limited in academic opportunities, although a great soccer tradition, but Utica is a good school and accesible, being on I90 to make it easy to get to, especially from Syracuse to Albany.  Martin their current very good QB came from nearby Rome Free Academy.

Thought I might butt in on the lower 3 discussion.  I would say that Hartwick is the best of the three right now (they played sc very tough for a half last week) but Utica would be the favorite to catch the top 4.  They have the best facilities of the 3 and the best location of closest talent.  The syracuse area always has a ton of talent and Utica is a half hour away.  Hartwick isnt really around anything.  And Norwich has a brutal location that is made even worse because most of the student population is military.  Its pretty tough to sell a sausage party to any 18 year old fball studs coming outta high school.  They landed a couple, notably Garcon, who promptly left (idiot cancer anyways), but they'll never have anything good enough to come up with more than a spoiler roll.

ok sure,

what team at the bottom half of the E8 with a brightest future? Norwich Hartwick Utica? Also why is it the Empire 8 when there is only 7 teams?

Springfield and Norwich are football-only members of the Empire 8, a NY conference that in addition to Ithaca, Alfred, Utica, Fisher and Hartwick, includes non-football schools Elmira, RIT and Nazareth.....which should equal eight. Nevertheless, it may well go beyond the eight members....but no doubt will retain its name much as the "Big Ten" has despite its having 11 members.

The Empire 8 has been in existence only since 2002.

Empire 8 Football Champs
2002--Ithaca
2003--Ithaca
2004--Ithaca-SJF, co-champs (SJF got NCAA AQ for head-to-head win)
2005--Ithaca
2006--Springfield (?)... unless Norwich places 1000 plebes at goal line to prevent Chris Sharpe's entry. Should the Pride fall, winner of AU-SJF would take title and AQ.

Could never happen, Certain members in the conference do not play state schools...I guess that's OK...it leads to me wishing that a Sunyac Conference was even a remote possibility.

Garcon, although an amazing athlete, was apparently an equally as big of a jerk (g-rated version).  When we played them in the 2004 ECAC game, he started several fights and even his teammates were making comments about how much they hated him.
At the same time, Mount Union seemed to have no problem winning with him.

4 SUNYAC schools have football.  Alfred doesn't play state schools, for one.

Well they both had identical conference records, so they were conference co-champs, but for NCAA AQ purposes one needs to be appointed champion so they went to the tiebreaker....
