Upstate,

Visiting with my sister, picked up a new winterbeater and making the best of it.

From those that i'v talked to it sounds like there should be a huge crowd on hand saterday at AU.

I would hope....it could be the biggest game....well EVER for alfred football...or at least in the last several years

Saxon73

Yo Sarge,

Let's hope so.  I'm splitting up a 6 hour trip to be there.  Let's hope the game is called fair, each team plays it's best and noone get's hurt.

Hope Julio keeps improving, he was significant in last year's game.

Haven't heard much on the Julio front lately, any news?

Upstate,

Sorry, I don't really know.  PepBand pretty much has his finger on that trigger, being in Alfred proper.

Union 34 RPI 17

Upstate,

Pepband would know more details, but i know Julio is in Atlanta right now rehabing.  It's going to take around a year, but they hope to make a full recovery from what i've heard.  I know he is planning on attending classes next fall from what i'v heard.  I really hope so.  I only knew julio for a year and cant say enough about the character of a kid like that.  He had an infectious attitude of both strength and optimism in any situation that was infectious.  One of the nicer people i'v been around.

As posted under "Significant Injuries" a while back:

Julio Fuentes, now able to talk on the telephone, has been moved from Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester to a specialized rehabilitation hospital in Atlanta. Shepherd Center, founded in 1975 in Atlanta, Georgia, specializes in the medical and rehabilitative treatment of people with spinal cord injuries, acquired brain injuries, multiple sclerosis and other neurological conditions. He is expected to be at Shepherd for about a month of rehabilitation with the goal being independent mobility. He would then be expected to undergo an additional two months or so of rehabilitation near his hometown of Olean. Then, Julio would likely be able to return to Alfred to continue his studies in fall 2007.

Since that post, have spoken with his AU advisor who spoke with him on the phone. She reports he's in good spirits and is more concerned about his mother than himself. His mother is there in Atlanta with him while her younger two children are back home in Olean being cared for. He has use of his arms and some feeling in his legs, although, at last report, he could not move them.

AUPepBand remains hopeful for his recovery. Thanks for asking!

Who have you spoken with? The Ogdensburg clan coming down from the North Country?

BTW....you're not doing so hot with the karma thing. What's with that, sarge? Figured you got some training in political correctness while you were studying at AU. You skip those classes?

A few predictions for the weekend...

I think Fisher beats Alfred in a tight one, 34-31

I think IC beats an injury depleted C-state team, 31-21

I'll take SC over Norwich by 800. (maybe a total of 9 passing yards for SC, but who cares when you have their qb)

U of R stays tight with Hobart but loses...24-14

and Union pulls away against RPI and wins by 17

I tried to take my built in bias out of it, but what can I say...I am a Fisher guy at heart
GO FISHER!!!

PepBand,

Sorry, but I gotta call you on this one.  I saw Lacrosse games on Merrill.

Indeed, that was the beginning of the end of Merrill Field as we remembered it. Lacrosse started in, I believe, 1967 or '68....Keith "Slats" Gregory (terrific AU wide receiver and avid Saxon fan to this day) was a primary instigator, coming from LI where he played in high school.

I dont believe its up to delong..

Astro Turf has a shelf life of about 10 years and this is it's tenth season. Lots of complaints from various sports about the hurt it puts on the knees and back and that a new field might be put in.
