well....I don't think Vince Young is a good comparison, he throws a lot more.

I'd go with Crouch from Nebraska....he won the Heisman and hardly ever did anything but run the option.

Didn't he try to convert to a WR when he got to the NFL?

yeah - I believe he lasted almost half of training camp.

Did they call them quarterbacks before the forward pass was introduced?

There is no POY this year, the E8 has approved offensive and defensive POYs.

Look for Sharpe and Lang, respectively. DeLong, Manzer.

Where'd you get that information from?

I have Chuck Mitrano on speed dial.

Yeah but I think he tried to come back as a WR.

Wikipedia is the greatest invention ever:

QuoteCrouch was initially drafted by the St. Louis Rams of the NFL as a wide receiver, but still wanted to play quarterback. However, Crouch was seen by the NFL as being too short to play quarterback. His athleticism was seen as better suited for playing wideout, but a hard tackle by a defensive player caused him to have 150 cc of blood drained from his leg. Due to the injury, Crouch left the St. Louis Rams before playing a game. Following a tryout with the Green Bay Packers in which they too tried to convert him to a wideout, he quit again and became a sports reporter. Crouch then received unwanted publicity on TV broadcasts, most notably on ESPN's talk show Pardon the Interruption, on which he was criticized by hosts Mike Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser for not wearing a jacket and tie to Matt Leinart's Heisman ceremony.

Where is he now?

QuoteCrouch's opportunity to play quarterback at the professional level finally came when he signed with the Toronto Argonauts on February 15, 2006 as a quarterback. (For several years, the Argonauts had owned his CFL rights.) Crouch is now the fourth string quarterback in Toronto, behind legend Damon Allen, Michael Bishop, and Spergon Wynn. On July 22, 2006, Crouch made his regular season CFL debut against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Regina, Saskatchewan. Coming in at the start of the second half following an injury to Spergon Wynn, Crouch sealed the win for Toronto with solid play including a 94-yard pass completion to Arland Bruce III.

well there you go.....that freakin internet thing....

The Truth 00

c'mon upstate. don't be bitter that he carved your cardinal defense for 7 tds and was the most dominant player on the field that day. regardless, the kid is a qb and is the most important piece of that offense. sorry, but mark robinson couldn't play qb at springfield...it just wouldn't work. just because his system calls for him to throw the ball 3-5 times a game doesn't take away the fact that he is a qb. if sc throws more than 5 times a game, they are either a) losing by more than 2 scores or b) having a lot of 3rd and longs, which in turn would mean they are probably losing. and don't be fooled, that kid can throw the ball relatively well for a guy who probably doesn't practice it much.

i guess i was under the impression that POY's didn't go on all-conference teams but then again, i could be wrong.

The Truth 00

and for the record, i'm not bashing robinson. that kid is a great player. i was just trying to give you a comparison of a rb playing qb in that system...the qb makes any offense go and sharpe does that.

OK Guys,

Are you the best quarterback because your team wins?

Are you the best quarterback because you fullfill the all around duties, that is  - some ability to run, scramble, have a good completion percentage, few interceptions, not get sacked, read blitzes etc ?

good point saxon73....i think all can be considered. however, everyone looks at numbers....being indy stats --> teams stats --> wins and losses. throw in turnovers too. its very complicated...just like everything in the east region this year!

Football teams facing pivotal battles to keep their NCAA hopes alive

Jim Mandelaro, staff writer, Dem & Chron
November 8, 2006

It's must-win Saturday for several area football teams as the regular season winds down.

At Alfred, the Saxons host St. John Fisher with a share of the Empire 8 title on the line. The winner would still lose out on a conference tiebreaker to Springfield if the Pride beats Norwich, but would have a chance to earn one of seven at-large NCAA Division III Tournament berths.

"Last year we were in this position and let it slip away (a regular-season finale loss to Alfred)," Fisher senior tailback Mark Robinson says. "This time we'll come in 100 times more focused. If we win, we're definitely going to get in."

At Cortland, the sold-out Cortaca Jug game holds major significance in the wake of both Cortland and Ithaca losing last week. The loser is likely out of the NCAA picture.

At Geneva, Hobart faces a do-or-die finale against a surging University of Rochester team. The Statesmen (7-1) lost the Liberty League title and automatic NCAA berth to Union last weekend and now must beat a 7-2 UR team that has won five straight.

Fisher could be without starting quarterback Rob Kramer, who has a high ankle sprain. If he can't play, senior Nick Suchyna will get the call.

Cortland is 15th, Fisher 17th, Hobart 22nd and Ithaca 25th in the D3football.com poll.
