i don't see the AU vs SJF game being a shootout or a blowout. it will be close up in the friendly confines of merrill field and i'd have to say the zebras will be to the advantage of the saxons. wow, only 1 more day until i make some predictions.

It's been AUPepBand's experience that there's no such thing as "hometown refs" at Merrill Field. Over the years, refs seldom have given the homeys a break. Can cite several examples but won't elaborate.

Nevertheless, the fumble call on IC's Kelly Gordon at the AU 2-yard-line was questionable. AU certainly got a break on that call. If Gordon steps on line with possession of ball, the play is dead. If he's separated from the ball before going out of bounds and the ball remains in the field of play and AU recovers, then ref made the right call. Could not see it but Gordon's dad says his son said he was out.

Early in the game, the ball was bouncing Ithaca's way much like it did for Hobart the week before, a game in which AU was apparently robbed of a TD on a pick return. Also, a questionable interference call on 3rd-and-10, the muffed punt where the ball apparently glazed a Saxon who was running downfield and a punt inside the 5 that bounces backwards, allowing Bombers to down it.

The only hometown refs Alfred can claim are Bill Schuster (AU alum from Livonia who caught brother Bob's passes while wearing the purple and gold), whose level of officiating is far above anything the ECAC has to offer, he being an NFL zebra.

It's no surprise that AUPB and I are on the same page on this one (we even sit next to each other, unless he's in the broadcast booth - traitor).  If anything, our current theory is that the refs, perhaps unconsciously, give the benefit of the doubt to teams with national ranking on close calls.  It definitely felt that way during the Hobart game and the first half of Ithaca on Saterday.  The fumble recovery on the 2 definitely put a grateful end to that theory for the time being.

After the AU game
To the GA's (BIG skinny, dayjob, lil guy)
My plans are to have a few non-alcoholic celebratory drinks.
AU-28
Fisher-21
Everything is correct except the non-alcoholic

realistic

he was lying both times....

Nice post sarge.  +K for that.

If you need help with the booze....evidently there is a dorm room somewhere on IC's campus as well stocked as Senor Frogs in Cancun...

Great reply
I interupted the silence with lafter of my class (taking a test).

That should bring my karma up to about a -13.

realistic

yeah - but 2 minutes later you are back down....someone is upset with you.

The Truth 00

ok, i'm trying to say don't go into a game wanting to trust the referees. the theory of refs giving calls to the ranked team is an interesting one.

sarge, i can totally accept being called an idiot but if you ever saw the end of the fisher/norwich game circa 04, you'd somewhat be in agreement with me.

I saw the end of that game.  I see your point, WITH THAT GAME.  Its quite a stretch to say that a game in 2004, that Fisher was in, relates in any way to this Saterday.  AU has had its share of calls go against them as well.  So has every team that plays.  I think you're grasping at straws here.

The Truth 00

could be grasping for straws...just thought i'd throw in my 2 cents.  how did you get that negative karma by the way? you must have really fired someone up

For your sake, Sarge, hope they're not taking a spelling test. Who'd correct it?

BTW +K for the "lafter"....pretending you can't spell is hilarious.

I believe that's the result of a post AU/Ithaca game concoction.  Overconfident bragging, sore losing, and several mid day beers tend to tick off those that dont agree.

AUPepBand

sarge....I give you +K and, after bringing you "up" to -12, a few moments later you're at -14!

What are your travel arrangements...you driving up from NC tomorrow? Assuming you have tomorrow off?

college isn't like it used to be boys, thats for sure. at least the kid isn't selling illegal substances (who knows, he might have that market covered too)

"Well, robbery is pretty bad boys, but at least the kid isn't committing burglary!"

What is that from and what did you do yesterday to get your karma into the negative?

Not from anything, just trying to make a point about saying something stupid. "At least he's not providing illegal substances"? News flash: it is illegal for people under the age of 21 to consume alcohol. Whether or not you condone it, it's illegal.

I honestly don't know what's happened to my karma. I mean, it didn't go this far down when i made fun of the guy's 85-year-old mother, and that was on NJAC! It might have to do with the wikipedia article I *found* about Ryan Fullen.

The Truth 00

max, last time i checked, alcohol wasn't illegal...i was getting at illegal drugs. i know its illegal to sell alcohol to minors but i don't think its as bad as selling drugs to anyone.

fan of d3

Interesting....the Amherst Williams game is on NESN if anyone gets it..

realistic

yeah - that game regionally on NESN, the Shoes on Time Warner in the Albany area and Cortaca on Time Warner all over Central and northern ny...and I can't get any of it in NYC.   Damn.
