couple things max

one i found your interpretation of the quotes very funny and i gave karma because of it.  but besides springfield the defense really has shut everyone else down, if we held them to 7 like Ithaca we would have probably had one of the best defenses statistically in the country.

two i think when he said all 10 of you i think he meant Ithaca posters but I am not sure

Booby-

you're damn right they have, I was just kidding. It has long been a contention of mine (that I stole from someone else) that Fisher's DEFENSE won the IC game, not the offense.

Does UR have a bee-keeping program?  And is it true that they travel with a box full of yellow jackets to their away games?  Kaz00 doesn't like needles and, by extension, getting stung by insects.  It will be especially difficult to defend my Pepsi from the yellow jackets as they take cover behind the snowflakes on Saturday.  Can we get a ruling on this before I break down like Jack Lemmon trying to get some of the Glengarry leads?

UR has nothing on Alfred when it comes to bees. The late Dr. Lloyd Watson experimented extensively with honey bees, developing a means of artificial insemination by which he could develop a better more productive honey bee. His dear wife Olive Watson took the honey and used it as the sweetener in candies that are still hand-dipped in Alfred today. Honey Pot Candies...wonderful confections of honey-sweetened fillings dipped in a variety of chocolates and shipped around the world. While historically the Honey Pot candies are believed to be a by-product of Dr. Watson's research, some have entertained the idea that Dr. Watson's work in developing a bee that produces more honey was merely a result of a husband addressing the first item of business on wife Olive's "Honey Do List."

I thought the Honeypot business ended when Fran McGraw died last year.  I know the recipe may still exist in the McGraw family, but you can't buy the candy at the Gallery or the Kanakadea Country Store.  So, I assumed that Honeypot candy was relegated to the corner of my mind along with summers at the Jersey Shore with my grandfather and my childhood home.

Last time I saw Connie McGraw, she said she's still making it. They definitely were out of stock this summer, but AUPepBand is thinking production is underway once again.

Offensive Player of the Year: Chris Sharpe, Springfield College
Defensive Player of the Year: Gene Lang, St. John Fisher College
Rookie of the Year: Jared Manzer, Alfred University
Coach of the Year: Mike DeLong, Springfield College

No suprises there...

Coach of the year awards, in any sport, at any level, are ridiculous. Three examples:

1. Jim Leyland, who throughout the second half of the season I was sure was suffering from a brain tumor.
2. Cal Wickens (E8 Women's Vball, a terrible coach)
3. Mike DeLong

Now, I'm not saying DeLong is not a good coach, but you run the same offense for 20 years, you get some good kids that can run it effectively, and you're coach of the year? Not to mention your defense sucks?

The Truth 00

max, in case you don't know, a lot of coaches whose teams win the conference get coach of the year. also, teams that make significant turnarounds from one year to another get recognized i.e. sc 4-6 in 05 to 9-1 in 06. obviously, he is very well-respected by his peers within the conference and people have noticed the job that he's done. that was a foolish statement.

maxpower

I wasn't commenting on Coach DeLong so much as the complete arbitrar...ivity of all coach of the year awards, everywhere. I'm sure Coach DeLong is a fine coach, his teams have been very successful for many years. But your statement that "teams that win conference, their coach often gets coach of the year" I think highlights my point more than yours.

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

The Truth 00

yea, i understand what you are saying with that...although murray got it last year and they didn't make ncaa's. i still think that leyland one was justified though...they went from bad to pretty good. joe girardi was an example against the norm though. i do agree that its a common thing for the best teams' coaches to win these awards but why don't they deserve it is my question for you. that team went from 4-6 to 9-1. we all know their defense isn't great but they've played better than what you think. they led the e8 in takeaways this year (i believe) and thats an important stat because it obviously helped out the offense. most of the time it comes down to wins and losses...and that team got it done.

its definitely a hairy subject, and i don't know what the deal was with the volleyball coach, nor do i care about that sport but it must have been pretty controversial to you.

I may be biased but the fact that Joe Girardi won Manager of the Year over Willie Randolph was a joke. You can say what you want about how much more talent was at his disposal, but I guarantee you if that was Art Howe managing, he would not have been able to keep the ship afloat with the amount of injuries that team had, let alone lead them to 97 wins. For god sakes, our rotation the second half of the year was Glavine/El Duque/John Maine/Trachsel/Dave Williams or Oliver Perez...are you kidding me?!

No offense to Girardi, he's a great manager and will likely be the manager for the Yanks in one year's time. That said, his Marlins team was stacked with pitching (Olsen, Johnson, D-Train, Sanchez, etc) and he still only won 78 games in a bad division and a bad league. He also alienated enough people in the organization, both players and front office, to get canned. Sorry, just not seeing it.

You can't be serious. Randolph did a commendable job but Girardi has a few arms and less bats. He's the coach of the year hands down.

fan of d3

Wow SJF and IC dominate awards...very impressive.

Food for thought...SC DB Joe harasymiak close to tops in the country in INT and Breakups and only second team? Oh well.

Nice job everyone.
