Wow SJF and IC dominate awards...very impressive.

Food for thought...SC DB Joe harasymiak close to tops in the country in INT and Breakups and only second team? Oh well.

Nice job everyone.

Yeah I was looking for him on the first team....

Also SJF's center, who was a 2nd teamer last season i believe, didnt make it but every other lineman was honored though....

Why only 4 offensive lineman on the first team?

Upstate I didnt really want to get into a conversation about it...it was just noteworthy.... and from the SC website

"The acceptance is contingent upon Springfield's not reaching the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl, the NCAA Division III National Championship game that is to be played in Salem, Virginia on the same day".

So no, I guess he doesn't think that.

I may be biased but the fact that Joe Girardi won Manager of the Year over Willie Randolph was a joke. You can say what you want about how much more talent was at his disposal, but I guarantee you if that was Art Howe managing, he would not have been able to keep the ship afloat with the amount of injuries that team had, let alone lead them to 97 wins. For god sakes, our rotation the second half of the year was Glavine/El Duque/John Maine/Trachsel/Dave Williams or Oliver Perez...are you kidding me?!

No offense to Girardi, he's a great manager and will likely be the manager for the Yanks in one year's time. That said, his Marlins team was stacked with pitching (Olsen, Johnson, D-Train, Sanchez, etc) and he still only won 78 games in a bad division and a bad league. He also alienated enough people in the organization, both players and front office, to get canned. Sorry, just not seeing it.

You can't be serious. Randolph did a commendable job but Girardi has a few arms and less bats. He's the coach of the year hands down.

I'm very serious. Girardi did an above average job with the team he had. He had one of the best starting rotations in baseball (trust me, some of the contenders would have died to have D-Train, Olsen and Johnson be their top three) and quality position players. He only won 78 games. I've said it before, he's a good manager but the media has just kinda ran with his reputation.

And don't make it seem like the Marlins didn't have many good players. They had All-Stars in Miggy Cabrera and Uggla, one of the best leadoff hitters and shortstops in baseball (Hanley Ramirez), two good young players who hit 20+ HR's (Jacobs and Willingham). They also have other big prospects in Hermida and Abercrombie. If you ask me, I think that Marlins team underachieved...they were young but they have a ton of talent.

Also keep in mind, the Mets lost their ace (Pedro), the best setup man in baseball at the time (Duaner Sanchez) and Cliff Floyd missed a lot of time with injuries. Randolph deserved it, in my opinion.

get 'em pat!

first of all, how in earth did i lose karma today?  i defend a coach's award, with quality reasoning, and i get zapped. what a bunch of crap. second of all, bombers15, you can't be serious. yeah, randolph held the ship together...but its pretty easy when you have over a 10 game lead. these awards are based on the regular season. third, the mets have the 3rd highest payroll in baseball, way above any other team in the nl. they have a bunch of veterans (beltran, loduca, delgado, green, wagner, glavine, floyd) and 2 of the BEST young players in the game (reyes and wright). they have one of the best teams on paper in the bigs.  look at every preseason publication and check what the expected record of the marlins was. i dont need to check because i know....they were predicted to be one of the worst teams in baseball, expected to win maybe 60 games at best with all of the young players they had.  no one questions how much potential they had because they had a lot of young prospects with talent but they weren't expected to win 78 games...and you say they underachieved.  oh man!

I would argue that there was a reason those young guys in Florida were able to have breakout years - That reason would be their coach. I just feel that he helped those guys gel together, and the helped the younger guys play above & beyond what anyone thought they were capable of at this point. Willis is a great pitcher to have, but he didn't have that good of a year...

My sox went 1 for 2 ... Dumped Pedro & his monster salary on the Mets prior to him falling apart. But they paid for getting rid of their best prospect Ramierez... Theo is out of his mind for that. All the preaching about building a future from within, and then he does that. Nice.

Minaya is way out of his element. Spends that much on Pedro, then signs el duque for another 2 yrs at what, $12 MM ... wow.

The Truth 00

and pedro got the guaranteed 4th year...what an idiot. pedro is damn near done.  one of the best things the sox ever did was not resign him. everyone knew that pedro maybe had 2 years left (and those 2 years are up)
