Its too bad- they both had great seasons!

fan of d3

Sucks more for Robinson, at least Sharpe has another shot at it.

Curious, when did the SJF program begin?

fisheralum91

depends on what you call a program...when i was there in the 80's the team was still club....

fan of d3

Well if they have been a varsity sport for only a decade and half thats a hell of a job in a short time i'd say.

fisheralum91

i want to say 88 or 89.

So no Chris Sharpe or Mark Robinson for the Gagliardi... I can see Robinson not being nominated because I am a bit short- (east-) sighted when it comes to this stuff, but wasn't Sharpe breaking all kinds of records this year? Or was I right all along and he's not as good as Cahill??? Or is there something about the voting process I don't know?

a couple things to remember is that the Gagliardi Trophy considers other factors too (academics, service, etc) and there also seems to usually be some West and North bias (part of that is obviously that those regions have had the majority of Stagg participants the last 10+ years).

edit: also - don't take that as my saying Robinson, Sharpe or anyone else in the East doesn't have a good academic record, community service, etc.

FisherAlum05

realistic,

Robinson is very involved in the community and also has a 3.6 cumulative GPA.  He has been on the academic all american team for three straight years i do believe...

hence my qualification at the end of "also - don't take that as my saying Robinson, Sharpe or anyone else in the East doesn't have a good academic record, community service, etc."

I wasn't taking anything away from them...I know a little bit about the award and I was simply stating that there are other factors involved.

fisheralum91

hey alum 05-- here is the question of the day---

when did SJF go d3,

I cant remember if it was during or just after i graduated in91.

Heck with Robinson and Sharpe, how is Reille not a finalist?  I mean, the kid is involved in the community, hopes to teach elementary ed, helps little old ladies across the street, protects baby squirrels from being clubbed, single handedly cleaned up the Exxon Valdez oil spill...etc.

As for facilities. AUPepBand believes restrooms at Merrill Field are original restrooms, never rebuilt/replaced when new home bleachers and press box were installed. Concession stand is hit or miss depending upon which athletic team is running it. Some are disorganized, others do it well. AUPepBand doubts much will be changed with facilities unless AU gets a major donation. However, AUPepBand has suggested Merrill Field press box be painted purple, which was received favorably. Will make mention of need to upgrade restrooms as well.

With demolition of Davis Gym planned, AU needs a major donor to step to the plate to fund a field house w/indoor track, indoor tennis courts, basketball courts, fitness center, etc.

I was actually just thinking about how much I enjoy the urinal trough and how sad I was when they were replaced in Yankee Stadium.  If we do get new bathroom facilities we need to push for the continued support of the trough; it brings back fond memories of my childhood at Miche Stadium watching Army lose to everyone!

Oh, and I'm working on accumulating my fortune right now so that we can have the McClain annex at McLane Center established.  Though I'd make certain demands about what the annex facilites would include.  Right now I'm thinking a rock climbing wall, lazer tag arena and re-creating The Eliminator from American Gladiators...

The Urinal Trough at Merrill Field also creates a real sense of community. Nothing like everyone peeing in the same pot.

AUKazoo: Was the climbing wall left behind in Jersey?

Yeah, when I knew we wouldn't have a garage in Alfred I gave all the holds to a youth group who was building a climbing wall.  Fortunately Alfred State has a climbing wall and I've upgraded to a kayak, so all's well.  If only it was warm outside of July I'd get to use it a little more...
Check out the official card game of the AU Pep Band - Str8 Eight!

Congrats to the Empire 8 conference on getting both teams into the 2nd round.

It's tough to beat a good team twice in the same year, but I'm thinking Springfield advances to the next round.

Best of luck!
