You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

Thanks scgrad, good luck to you too.  Hoping for some Fisher defense to go along with my cold turkey sandwich...

Why is this weekend the true championship? Ther first game did not count?
They "shared" the Empire 8 Championship, both with 5-1 records. While not officially so, it's like the E8 championship game.
AUPepBand has a logical conclusion. With both teams "sharing" the league title, Springfield getting the AQ on head to head, it truly will be a rematch. However, one could argue that for a true title, best 2 out of 3 in this case would settle things. Kind of like the Michigan/Ohio State deal. I think we already saw the D1 championship game played. In any event, I hope Fisher doesn't let Springfield put up 55 again, or it could be a long afternoon.

Max:

I had a chance to watch Cahill play a couple times during Springfield's last trip to the East Region Finals and look forward to seeing Sharpe for comparison purposes.

As I recall Cahill was big and strong, more than being really fast.  The shocking thing was how poorly he threw the ball, which he rarely had to.  It was worse than when you see linemen soft tossing on the sideline before the game.

Yea, but Springfields QBs only need to throw when the defensive team has a huge breakdown and the SC recievers are wide open downfield.  The SC QB should always throw it away if no one is wide open in that offense.

An article taken from the Cardinal Courier.....

Coach Paul Vosburgh is just about ready to take his program up another level.

In the 2008 and 2009 seasons, the St. John Fisher Cardinals are slated to play the Mt. Union Purple Raiders, the defending national champions and current number one team in the nation, for the first games of the regular season.

At the end of the 2007 season, the Cardinals' contract with King's College is set to expire. After being consistently ranked among the top 25 teams nationally in the last few years, Fisher decided to feed off the program's success and elevate to a whole new class of competition.

"Playing Mt. Union is a great way to measure where our program is at," Vosburgh said. "We have consistently been in the national rankings, and we've been in the NCAA playoffs. This game will show where we rank against the best team in the country."

Mt. Union has had their fair share of appearances in the NCAA playoffs as well, winning eight national championships. Their national championships came in 1993, 1996-1998, 2000-2002, and 2005. The game has a little added significance for Cardinals' sophomore defensive tackle Nick Boone.

"This game will be an adrenaline rush for me because I considered going to Mt. Union," said Boone, who will be a senior for Fisher's first game against the Purple Raiders in 2008. "When we face them it will be a measure of what I could have done and where I would have been."

To add to Mt. Union's laundry list of accomplishments, they have won the Ohio Athletic Conference 15 consecutive times from 1992-2006, have 15 undefeated regular seasons, and hold the longest winning streak in college football of 55 games from the beginning of 2000 to the end of 2003. Despite all of the success, Mt. Union head coach Larry Kehres is willing to give the Cardinals a shot at his team.

"I honestly believe that good teams should play good teams, even if it is the first game of the season," said Kehres. "I hope they use the opportunity to their advantage to make themselves better."    Over the next few years, Fisher will take Kehres' advice to heart as they will use this game as a recruiting tool to get prospective players to come play for the Cardinals.

"I would hope this game attracts the players that want to get into the best Division III scheduling they can," Vosburgh said. "We want to recruit those kids who want to play the best. The kids that are looking to play the best are the best."

Although this game is in the distant future and it will be hard to project what the results will be, the Cardinals still have a lot of confidence in their abilities.

"It's going to be like a national championship game on the very first game of the season," Boone said. "I honestly think we can contend with them and this game will prove that."

What is everyones opinion on if scheduling Mt. Union would really make a difference in their stellar recruiting efforts?

AU already on the recruiting trail. Any prospects in North Carolina, Sarge? Would be nice to have a few Saxons with southern drawls, don't you think?

Incidentally, Sarge....what's your take on the urinal trough at Merrill Field? Replace it or revel in it?

[/quote]

I guess I hadn't really thought of it.  I guess there are some prospects down here at the high school that was next door (you might have seen on the news the school that burned down, ya that was our high school next door to the middle school I work at.  I was with my students till 5 oclock and they could be let out. Ahhhh!)  Their team wasnt that great but they did have some athletes that could play.  I'll look into it.  Great idea.

As for the trough... sticky situation.  I myself somehow like the idea of a drunken trip to a trough on a Saturday afternoon.  Just the smell says football (is that wrong?).  There is some sort of greatness about the trough that screams machismo and football.  However, nowadays, its not always Adam and Eve.  Could be Adam and Steve if you catch my drift.  I can take conversation and even the occasional kick in the butt from that one jerk friend (often delegated to me), but its the wandering eyes that really spook me.  Kinda like if you see a mesquito you itch and slap at imaginary bugs, well i'm a little paranoid like that if you will.  In a perfect world, I say trough.  Nowadays though, at least give me a sectionary wall.

On a side not about urinals.. if anyone ever gets a chance to visit ESPN the Zone in NYC, make a trip to the bathroom.  Its well worth it.  I think many of these problems could be averted with regards to urinals by taking a cue from this place.  They have small television sets in the wall straight ahead always playing sportscenter.  Unreal

I don't know if it will help in recruiting per-say....but its can't really hurt them on any level.  Look at UMHB this year, they had 2 losses from the early season and they took at high ranking into the playoffs.  Also - it has to be something for the kids to really get up for.

It would be a home and home, right?  Hopefully fisher can get the word out and get tons on students, local, profs, etc to the game.  It's worth it to catch MUC in person.

hahaha - those are great.  It is very common at all of the ESPNzones but that is actually quite popular in NYC.  They have some that have regular commercials in bars, movie trailers, etc....good stuff.

well - I am headed out in my hometown for the first time in a LONG TIME wish me luck.

Good luck and safe travels to all on Saterday

Been there, done that. But it's been awhile. Had forgotten. Need to get to the city again, it's been too long. Got some favorite places there....up Broadway a ways from ESPN the Zone is Ellen's Stardust Diner with singing wait staff...a fun time. Then up near Columbia, been to Tom's Restaurant of Seinfeld fame. While channel surfing today, saw Ellen having her show in Lincoln Center....recognized it from the big windows overlooking Columbus Circle...had dinner there last year with NYPA directors! And while some may shop Macy's, you'll probably find AUPepBand in a ConWay(?) store.

Yeah, Sarge, talk up AU a bit with some Carolina boys....but I'd check in with Coach Murray. He may have some recruiting materials for ya.

As I down my rum and cokes on MT. time (it's only 8:30 here) I am slowly getting pumped for the game tomorrow (Saterday).
