Spence

This question was off topic, but I was wanting to get some info on the Springfield offense. I can see from their stats that they run a lot and the QB does a lot of running, but I was wondering what types of plays they run, what formations, etc.

I appreciate any info I can get. Thanks!

What many do not realize, is that Vos actually had a decent start to his days at Fisher, relatively speaking of course.  Before their pathetic years from 96-02, Vos had seasons of 5-4, 5-4 and 7-3(on-field record in '95 that was later reduced to 1-9 because of an ineligible Hudson Valley transfer)  Prior to the '95 season, SJF was a preseason ranked team.  They climbed to 4 in the East at 6-0 that season.  Unfortunately, Vos came into a bad situation as his 1st season he didnt come in until August just before training camp and finished that season with around 40 players.  The very next year he brought in over 65 recruits and we shut-out Catholic (a ranked play-off team at the time) in game one, after only scoring 2 TD's in the ENTIRE SEASON the year before.

Must be thinking of someone else. St. John Fisher never shut out Catholic. The Catholic-St. John Fisher games:

1992: SJF 17, Catholic 15 (Catholic goes 4-6)
1993: SJF 21, Catholic 6 (Catholic goes 1-9)
1994: Catholic 21, St. John Fisher 14 (Catholic goes 8-2)
1995: St. John Fisher 29, Catholic 21 (St. John Fisher forfeits, Catholic goes 6-2-1)

You've never played Catholic as a playoff team or shut them out.

I suggest you would know better than most others about that team during that particular time period.

Yep. Saw three of those games.

About the Coach Vos argument:

I will say that, as a former player and coach in the program, Coach Vosburgh is a fantastic head coach and person.  He really knows the game inside and out.  Ask anybody the guys lives to coach football..ive heard stories of assistant coaches finding him sleeping in his office in the morning!!  He is a defensive genius and now has the talent to really excel on that side of the ball once again.  Offensively, I would tend to agree with somebody that he has alot of trust in the assistants especially Coach Scachetti who came to Fisher with him.  But if he has an opinion he will express it and it will be heard trust me.  Anyways its gonna be a great game this weekend get to Ohio and support the E8.  Go Cardinals!!

I don't know why the Bills would put money into changing the field, they don't even use our main field.  They play on the grass training fields the entire training camp

Pat, always there to correct ;D

The 'shut-out' I was referring to was the 17-15 game in 92.  My mistake.
Was Catholic not a play-off team the year before, as that game was week one in 92.  I did not mean that they played a play-off game ag. Catholic, but beat a Catholic team coming off a play-off season.  And I am pretty sure that the '95 win which was at Catholic was against a pre-season #9 ranked Catholic.

You saw three of these games and I played in three of them...Didnt make the travel squad for the '93 game

This is 100% correct

Busy night guys.  Like the old days...

Two thoughts:

1) I am sure Vosburgh is a nice guy, much like Reille, but no one has responded to the specific criticisms I posed about his coaching decisions.  Also, Upstate, I find it pretty disingenuous to put the decision to split carries on the RB Coach.  If that is how it played out, then Vosburgh is a bad coach for letting his assistants limit the touches of his best player.

2) Raiderguy, you are a moron.  I said everyone in Ohio will wake up Jan. 9 the day after the game still hurting from a Tebow stiff arm the previous night.  Just when you thought you caught me slipping too...

P.S.  Ohio State guys Troy Smith = Gino Torretta.

Do you guys ever talk football?
I find easily offended people rather offensive!

Statistics are like bikinis; what they reveal is interesting, what they hide is essential.

if you want to see people not talking about football go over to the Liberty League board, I think you will be especially impressed.  But remember you must speak in the 3rd person on that board

WOW - a few thing to catch up on in the morning.  Nice job by the night shift.  I guess we could have predicted that Wednesday night would be when the love fest ended.

gotta say I was shocked to see St Lawrence brought up on the board, even more so when it was refered to as "up and coming St Lawrence".  Sarge - sorry you went through that in the great frozen north.  Someone should have told you that their facilities were more representative of their good D-1 hockey team and their very good D-III soccer team.

On the Vos discussion, I know very little about him so I am not going to comment but so far no one has attacked him personally, so everyone relax a bit.  Also - if you scroll back,  Wizard deleted his post so I guess he conceded the point as well.

Spence - Springfield runs a rediculous Triple Optiion.  To the outsider it sounds very gimmicky, but when they have the athletes to run it....it is crazy.  They had them this year put up great numbers.  That being said (as was discussed at length over here earlier in the year) stop them once or twice and a team has a great shot to win.

Finally - the lesson (as always): Don't mess with the Guru....especially when Catholic is concerned.
