AU... using the bowls as a playoff would take away from the teams fans who deserve a home game. Could you imagine a home playoff game at Michigan, OSU, Florida, etc? Madness.

Gro's pitch. 16 teams. NCAA seeds them, higher seed hosts until the championship game. Go back to an 11 game schedule and start the playoffs by mid november. Championship should wrap up before Christmas.... THEN, if corporate sponsors want to have bowls, go at it. The kids deserve the trips and free stuff they get. If a playoff system meant no more bowls, so be it.

can't decide on this part... should they have AQ's for all conference champs, some conference champs (like the 6 BCS conferences), or just use the BCS top 16?  There's an obvious divide between conferences in DI, and if the sun belt champ gets in a good team is definetly getting left out in their place. It happens in D3 (**cough** NEFC) but the NCAA should be promoting fairness, not competition.

man- i should have stayed up for that one!
What time did the game end  (est)?

Gro:
Home playoff games certainly a plus....and cut cost of fans' travel. Can't imagine all fans can afford tickets/travel four consecutive weeks in a playoff run. But AUPepBand thinks opening it up to 32 teams with conference AQs with NCAA seeding them would provide fairness to all. Then, perhaps, those teams eliminated from playoffs could be "bowl-eligible," but title game should be the top bowl.

But then, what does Pep really care about DI football, anyway? We all know D3 is where it's at.

I think there's some NCAA ratio about teams to playoff spots, since DI is half the size of D3 I said 16 teams.

Sir Spiedie

I trust everyone is back to work this morning, eager to begin the New Year!!! Sheesh......

fisheralum91

1 am?!
Im up at 430 and out the door at 6.
Sorry boys- any games like that - you will have to keep me up to speed on!

Glad to see you guys are back...
Is it too early to start to plan for the first E8 Nation meeting?

Sir Spiedie

New to this board, I do notice that DIII apparently has none of the endless, usually useless, fascination with which recruits are going where. Believe me, it is an obsession. Does recruiting info begin to dribble out at some point?

Pat will clip and post stories on the Daily Dose whenever he sees them.  (The posts will include a reminder that D3 athletes don't "sign.")  But the schools really can't/don't publicize who they are getting or chasing.  I guess that is in part because they don't know for sure who they have until the kid shows up on campus.  That is the down side to no scholarships/letters of intent.  Tecmobowler is the generally accepted E8 Natioan recruiting guru.  He broke both Dan Juvan and Brian Grastorf.

Gotcha. Come to think of it, doesn't make any difference to me. AUPepBand has no genuine interest in DI. Would root for Syracuse when they were good but what else is there in New York for DI football? New York seems to be just the opposite of Florida. NY has oodles of D3 programs and diddly-squat for DI while Florida has nothing in D3 but DI programs galore!

Incidentally, AUPepBand attended the Fisher-Rowan playoff game and was amazed at the miniscule Rowan crowd. What's with that? AU draws more for regular season road games from among the players' parents alone!

Pep-
Now that you mention it- is too was very suprised at the light Rowan turnout.
I just figured that they were sitting in the stands instead of the visiting bleachers.....

The Chair has got it right. Occasionally, a sports reporter will ignorantly report a "signing" or report a high school grad's college intentions. Most kids named to All-Star squads will be asked their college plans. Some will list a few colleges while others will declare where they plan to go. Nothing's in stone, however. To add to the drama, once a kid is enrolled, he may find he doesn't like his first choice and will transfer (Paul Keeley).  8)

Pep was on the (east?) left side of the Fisher stands....if there were any Rowan fans on the Fisher side, they must have been on the right (west?) side. But there was no sign of any Rowan life there (although there really was little for a Rowan fan to cheer about). AU, with a student "spectator bus" and Saxon fans packed the bleachers, filled behind the end zone and overflowed onto the Fisher side for the 2005 contest....but only a 1.5 hour trip from Mayberry to the big city.
