I would assume a lot of it has to do with travel time and getting students back in time to actually get some studying done.

I'm sure that's it... ::)

I would say most, D-III games across the country take place in the afternoon.  If you go to the week by week schedule it will back this up.

There are some that play at night...but E8 specific, I know Butterfield doesn't have lights, I don't remember lights at springfield.  As for the others, I haven't caught games there since the full E8 was formed after I left.

Buff State, old Chugger, RPI, Montclair and brockport don't have lights as I remember.

I would assume a lot of it has to do with travel time and getting students back in time to actually get some studying done.

RPI, as you point out, doesn't have lights....the other reason most colleges play during the day in D3 is that a good percentage of programs share facilities with other teams....alot of schools do soccer games at night.

is this the case in many places?  I am using Ithaca as an example and I am know they have a different geographic element than a lot of schools, but Ithaca has separate fields for most sports.  Soccer has their own, football their own, field hockey their own, lacrosse has their own.  Does anyone in the E8 (of LL since the this was brought up by the esteemed Senor Red Tackle) share fields with Soccer or Field Hockey?  It seems this would kill fields, especially around the goal line.

Merrill Field (AstroTurf-12) is Alfred University's stadium for football, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's lacrosse (am I missing anything?)....and, occasionally, intramurals. Tucker Field (grass) next to Merrill Field serves as practice field for all sports and is used also for intramurals. At one time, AU planned to build an athletic complex atop Jericho Hill (where the soccer team played on a grass (muddy) field before omniturf was installed at Merrill). AU football actually has a grass football field "out in the woods" on Jericho Hill that is occasionally used for practice. Last I knew there were no facilities up there....except for the woods.

Hobart has seperate fields for Football (grass), FH (turf), and Soccer.  Come spring time the LAX team will use the Boz (home of the fb team) and for night games - the FH turf field.

Any new plans for facilities upgrades at Alfred or other NY schools? Cortland, Fisher, and St. Lawrence have new facilities the past 5-10 years.  Union gave "the Frank" an upgrade recently (which I think they will regret in the future and should have gone all out on a stadium). Ithaca and RPI have big plans for athletics. UR has fauver stadium, still in ok shape.

Alfred's FB team is coming along but if the facilities don't follow how are you gonna convince those kids to come out to the woods for 4 years?

Hartwick?? steel cage has got to go.

'gro - Ithaca recently got a $10 million gift to help build a new Athletics Center.

It is pretty rediculous.  Here is the link http://www.ithaca.edu/aecenter/

Theres a virtual tour that gives a very good idea of the whole thing.

I know at Utica... at least as of 2 years ago, football and field hockey shared the FieldTurf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium, but that both soccer teams use a field (regular grass) next to the stadium. Lacrosse also plays their games on the FieldTurf.

I've seen it before, that's why I said IC was doing big things. Place looks great.  If you go to RPI Athletics they have a video of their planned complex.

IC doesn't joke around when it comes to athletics.  Academics on the other hand.....

ZING!

Speaking of Zings, what is AUPep saying about Hartwick and field hockey. I did visit the Hartwick campus late last summer and took a look at the field. It was beautiful with new field turf and everything, but there WERE girls playing field hockey on it.

They may have just been working out on the field during the summer.  It really doesn't matter though.  The only sport Hartwick's Athletic Department takes seriously is Soccer.  If I were Boltus, I'd never set foot in Oneonta again.

very impressive -- also nice to see that the Bombers made the cut for the video.

I don't know very much of RPI's campus, but this is all going to be off of the Ice Arena right?  Is the a completion date for the whole project?
