Cold weather, baby, YEAH!!!!! Gotta love it!!!!  If it's winter, it might as well be COLD!!!!!
You know it's winter when your butt  hits that vinyl car seat in a car that has been outside overnight and it feels like Mike Tyson is pounding away at your kidneys!!! By the way, does anybody still use the old school trick of a sheet of cardboard over the windshield which can be easily removed the next morning, hopefully along with all the ice and snow?

BTW - it was 30 degrees in LA over this past weekend.  As a SoCalifornian, all TGP has to say about that is "WTF!?!?!?"

Spiedie:

Looked to see if Herrick Library has any Carl Hiaasen books. Turns out, AU has "Skinny Dip," "Strip Tease" and "Nature Girl." Pep has checked out "Nature Girl" which comes with Newsweek's affirmation, "Hiaasen has produced some of the best and certainly the funniest fiction ever written about the Sunshine State."

It looks good. Thanks for the tip.... +K to you and all E8 posters on the most recent page.

Sir Spedie, et al....

Back from a weekend in Rochester....made it through 'till monday morning with decent weather, then got hit with ice and delays at the airport.  The ice turned into me taking a digger down the stairs.  Not fun.

As for the books, The Tender Bar was a great read and from what I heard was very much spot on to a lot of LI towns in the '70s and '80s.  I am also a big Hiiasson fan (one of my favorites, I believe, was called Skin Deep)

I assume most have read it, but if you have not - The Sweet Season by Austin Murphy is a must read for all D-III fans.  Along the same lines was a good read about Patriot League basketball called The Last Real Ameteurs.

AUPepBand just googled "The Sweet Season" and is tickled to find there's another book on D3 football. Pep has requested it through Herrick Library's excellent Inter Library Loan Department. Had already read the book about the Trinity Lions, "Keeping the Faith," a good read about a struggling Christian college's football team.

Perhaps Pep should consider writing a book....and, like Pat Conroy, adopt the first person. Now that would make news.

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

Oh my! Another great book Pep has never heard about!

Prior to the AU-UR ECAC matchup at Merrill, Pep "made the rounds" of the tailgaters selling off the last of the band's "Pep Bandanas" and saw AU football in a new light. Pep has always spent pre-game in the band room but may leave that to the band president in the future in order to mingle with the tailgaters....the fans. Incidentally, word has it that AU and UR will be meeting on the gridiron regularly starting in '08. Unfortunately, the UR game will replace Hobart, which is dropping AU after 2007. Happy to have UR on the schedule, sorry to see Hobart gone.

"Nature Girl," "The Sweet Season" and "Rammer Jammer Yellow Hammer"...looks like Pep's got a lot of reading ahead of him.

AU Football Banquet....Saturday, Feb. 17....AU Pep Band will be there.

Sir Spiedie

Since this board is obviously the haunt of many  refined gentlemen of good taste, Spiedie wants to know if he should spend his money to see "Children of Men" at the cineema.

Also, just how cold will it get tonight. Any sub-zero readings out there?

Sir Spiedie

I'm sorry to see the Pep-TGP rivalry ended!

AUPepBand

Same here. Don't know why Hobart is dropping AU. It's a long series and games are seldom a blow-out no matter what the records might be. Would like to think it's just a temporary scheduling conflict. Nevertheless, UR, after a fine 2006 season, look to make a move up in the LL standings and will no doubt be a force to be reckoned with in 2008.

Say wha?  This rivalry ain't dead yet!

TGP sees AU on the 2007 Bart scked:

http://www.hws.edu/athletics/hobart/football/schedule.asp

The 2008 Bart sked so far has only has 8 games and TGP has to think at least 1 if not 2 dates are TBD (9/13 and 10/18 are open dates).

Expecting a low tonight of 35 here in the greater Los Angeles area.  Not kidding either.

I'm not going to reply on the daily dose, that's not really my style - I heard a rumor that #25 from Fisher is going to get a workout in for some NFL scouts.

57-  had to smite you man. The Pats are my team... & you'd take Brady any day of the week on whatever team you like.

I know, I never said you can't have an opinon. You'd still take Brady on any team you're rooting for. I suppose when you're something like 12-1 in the playoffs with 3 Super Bowl rings you can have as much swagger as you want.

Plus, the Patriots rarely showboat - That stupid shake Merriman does deserves to be made fun of.

Is that you I see next to LT?

Not to beat a dead horse, but they are probably the least cocky team in the league.  The only reason anyone even knew about the Pats dancing on the SD field after the game is because LT made a scene and whined about it and other players had to dig him out.

No one ever talks about the other times the Pats were talked down during the week and then did stuff on the field (eagles, steelers, Jacksonville)  And thats because those teams talked during the week and then sucked it up when they lost.  So no one ever heard about 3 Patriots players celebrating on the field after the game for 45 seconds.
