Sarge what years were you at SLU? I think I've played against you one year inbetween 98-01. The next year we were like, hey... where's #7?

From Pep
Sarge:
Pep has no evidence to the contrary....but what happened up north that you were banned from the St. Lawrence University campus? Could your arson-ic hints (hoping the place will burn down) have anything to do with it?

Yes I was #7.
Yes, I was at SLU from 99-01, only playing two of those years, which subsequently were the worst two football years of my life.  We went 0-10 my freshman year and 0-10 in 01.  We had a great freshman class in 99.  I know that statement seems ridiculous, but I played on a ECAC championship team at AU as well and that class was going to be great.  But then SLU did what it does.  They kicked out our best freshman defensive player after he got a 1.3 his first semester.  That player went on to play for a DII team in conn., become a captain, and successfully graduate with a decent average.  Our best d-back went on to transfer after SLU would give him no financial aid.  He would later lead Cortland in picks (Hartman).  Our q-b, starter as a freshman, would transfer and play in Florida.
I was in two fights at SLU.  The first was definately my fault as a young punk who put on 15 lbs and thought he was an 18 yr old bad a$$.  Truly moronic, but the other kid was also a 240 lb linebacker that was no slouch, not a little innocent kid.  The second was definately not my fault.  I was punched in my own residence by an unprovoked hockey player that was upset that a roommate of mine had made out with his girlfriend (not me).  I then fed it to him and they kicked me out.  All they said was that it was a private institution that did not follow those laws of the court.
Some amount of revenge was exacted when we beat them my final two years at SLU including the capper at SLU when I had two td's to win 14-10 (or something like that) in front of a home crowd as I grew up 20 miles away.  They were still ridiculous during that game.  The dean of students and the head of security showed up at our hotel on friday night of the game and tried to say that I couldnt play because I wasnt allowed on campus (something that had been straightened out a year in advance).  They then said that they would escort me to and from the field.
Burn Baby Burn.

I heard there is going to be a reality show starring AUPep. Any truth to that rumor?

That's the first Pep has heard of such a thing. Let's be realistic, the Truth is, Pep is no Superman, and while he's sometimes Spiedie, he looks more like The Great Pumpkin and he's gonna have to 'gro up or get a Lyco-suction because his booby regulator has been recalled by the chessdoc, not to mention the tecmobowler tags Jonny Utah attached as an addendum that would not meet Sarge's approval nor that of the budcrew. If Frank is Uible, perhaps he could explain the whereabouts of one missing Chairman JoseQViper on these boards as he hasn't posted since pg04.

Amazing post! And i'm not dead!  :D

pep, i have to dish it to you. that was amazing.

Sarge:
Was only fitting that you had  two TD completions....AU won 16-9. And Pep remembers the nice Ogdensburg crowd on hand to cheer for Alfred. Pep thoroughly enjoyed your parents at the games, Sarge....especially on punt returns! Dude, you picked up where Coleman left off on punt returns. And Duliba came into his own that year under Puccio's tutoring. Was a great time to be a Saxon....much like now!

Truth:
Pep's amazed you find that post amazing. Bordering on ludicrous.....Hey, if you like Will Ferrell (more cowbell!), have you seen Stranger Than Fiction? Ferrell really goes beyond the running around in underwear role and Pep thinks he did quite well in a more serious role. Pep saw it with his boys at a second-run theatre at $1.75 each. Will probably be out on DVD soon.

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

All are saddened by the death of Keeley Dorsey, running back from USF while working out with the team in the weight room. Everyone say a prayer, please.

'mornin fellas.

Finally got around to reading SI last night....a few interesting D-III notes popped up.

First - Chris Sharpe was in Faces in the Crowd (about time) but I thought it was interesting that they just said he broke a number of records but didn't give stats.  It is impressive either way, but I think some of those stats are just mind blowing.  (just for Budcrew- also in Faces was a Utica Womens Hockey Player) Nice job for the E8.

In other news.  Rick Reilly and another writer wrote a comedy screenplay a number of years ago about 1920's professional football players before the birth of the NFL.  It had been kicked around and then forgotten, but it fell into George Clooneys hands and now looks like it will get made.  Clooney is set to produce and star as the main player....who's character is based on Johnny "Blood" McNally.  McNally preceded John Gagliardi at St. Johns.

The NFL was formed in 1920 under the name, American Professional Football Association. In 1922 the name was changed to the National Football League. In 1964 at the annual Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in Canton I met Johnny Blood - handsome dog even then at the age of 60 - Clooney may have a hard time looking as good as Blood actually did. There are funny stories about Blood which will be dificult to clean up sufficiently to incorporate into a family movie - ladies and booze. An extremely physically talented, very intelligent, free spirited guy.

Sir Spedie, et al....

Back from a weekend in Rochester....made it through 'till monday morning with decent weather, then got hit with ice and delays at the airport.  The ice turned into me taking a digger down the stairs.  Not fun.

As for the books, The Tender Bar was a great read and from what I heard was very much spot on to a lot of LI towns in the '70s and '80s.  I am also a big Hiiasson fan (one of my favorites, I believe, was called Skin Deep)

I assume most have read it, but if you have not - The Sweet Season by Austin Murphy is a must read for all D-III fans.  Along the same lines was a good read about Patriot League basketball called The Last Real Ameteurs.

AUPepBand just googled "The Sweet Season" and is tickled to find there's another book on D3 football. Pep has requested it through Herrick Library's excellent Inter Library Loan Department. Had already read the book about the Trinity Lions, "Keeping the Faith," a good read about a struggling Christian college's football team.

Perhaps Pep should consider writing a book....and, like Pat Conroy, adopt the first person. Now that would make news.

Trinity Bible is not a Division III school, just for the record.

For those interested in selecting a school, a great tool I discovered is www.college results .org. You can identify any number of schools and it will generate a data rich comparison chart. Nothing about the quality of pep bands, I'm sorry to say, but maybe next year.
Note to Pat Coleman--- This thing is so good I wish you would consider linking to it.
