SJF just sent out a newsletter to their football alumni regarding the upcoming season.  The newsletter included a list of their top recruits who have "committed" to SJF.  There appear to be a couple of studs headed to SJF next season.  Among them include an All-State LBer from Silver Creek (sect 6), an All WNY QB from East Aurora, a All Greater Rochester QB from Perry, an all conference QB from Saratoga California, Seven OL that are over 6'3 and near 300lbs including a 6'8 290lb kid from Lockport that turned down a Full Scholarship to 1-AA Maine and a 6'3 305lber thats playing in the NY/NJ all star game.  There also appear to be some solid specialists including a transfer RB from Miami of Ohio thats 6' 210lbs.

Looks like their good season has gotten them some great recruits to build on.

What rule do you believe they have violated? Schools are permitted to announce incoming players if they have paid their deposit.

You can do better than that High Chairman

Not sure that's true. I don't believe this is the first time his "highness" has made an assumption about an NCAA rule that has turned out to be asinine.

Sorry Pat, but I know this rule because I have run across an issue with it before.  I don't have the rule in front of me but the gist of it says that a school is not allowed to publicize an incoming recruit until the student athlete enrolls.  Paying a deposit does not count as enrollment either.  Because D3 athletes do not sign letters of intent their commitment cannot be publicized by a school until they physically enroll in the fall.

There may, however, be an exception for an in house newsletter.

Pat Coleman

You're wrong. Just because Ithaca does it that way does not mean that it's the way everyone does it or the way that the rules require.

NCAA Division III Manual
13.10.7 Announcement of Acceptance.
Publicity released by an institution concerning a prospective student-athlete's commitment to attend the institution shall occur only after the paid acceptance of the institution's written offer of admission and/or financial aid. Such communications may be released to media outlets at the institution's discretion; however, an institution is prohibited from purchasing or receiving commercial advertising (e.g., print, media or billboard) to be used to identify a prospective student-athlete by name or picture. Violations of this bylaw do not affect a prospective student-athlete's eligibility; however, the violation shall be considered an institutional violation per Constitution 2.8.1. (Revised: 1/14/97, 1/11/00 effective 8/1/00, 1/9/06)

RPI released their recruits in the media already.  They do it every year right around now.  Can't imagine they jut haven't been caught yet.  I'm assuming there is a catch with whatever issue you ran into...

Viper: Please don't continue to pass yourself off as an expert on NCAA rules. You don't qualify.

I don't even pass myself off as an expert. I try to read the manual and if I can't interpret it I have a couple of contacts whom I consult and have worked in athletic departments more recently than I have.

Though I am not positive that posting in these forums constitutes a claim of expertise, I still feel a little like Chuck Lidell right now:

Double KO from the Guru as my username has magically changed.

Apparently PC does not respect the democratic process of E8Nation.

EDIT: And I have been smited about 6 times.

Three times, according to the records, in the past 24 hours.

If your handle remained in E8Nation, I might let it stay up. However, you proved your expertise doesn't even extend to all E8 issues, as shown again today.

Meanwhile, you didn't claim expertise?

I wrote a long reply but have now thought better of it.

I will just take the high road and say that it is your website, your message board and you make the rules.

I will post solely about sport-specific topics and will try not to have any fun until you change the rules as they apply to me.

EDIT: ...SIKE

Pat Coleman

I don't recall where I said you had to do any of that, other than not passing yourself off as an expert in an area where you have demonstrated your deficiency -- NCAA rules.

Before you jump so quickly to proclaim your conference rivals in violation of the rules, actually read them.

Does anybody know where the QB Boltus from Hartwick is going?? I heard he was gonna transfer...that would be a nice pickup for any D3 team.  That kid is a good QB!

If he goes to another NCAA school he will have to sit a year.  I bet he just sucks it up at 'Wick.

Between those and the so-called "outing" of an SID who never hid his identity, you are really losing credibility.
