oh and tags----neutral course----perhaps we can meet on one of the fine turningstone courses!!!!

I'd be down with that - followed by a little blackjack & some cold beverages.

fisheralum91

well aside from the cold beverages---no booze still at turning stone
sounds great to me!

Anyone know who Ithaca is looking at for the OC position...Who has interviewed?

I haven't asked around but my guess is that they will promote a young assistant.  Coach Welch has always been pretty heavily involved in the play calling so their shouldn't be any disruption in the offensive continuity.

Quote from: Superman57 on July 07, 2007, 12:04:56 AMLet's see JoseQViper interviewed but when he put Pat Coleman as his reference he was screwed.... Noah Fahrenbach interviewed and Ithaca said only if you can get Robbie as your RB coach and robie said I only play cowbell's now

+k Super.  But four winters were all that I could handle.  I won't be leaving Florida anytime soon, even to coach at IC.  Also, you should know by now that schools in the northeast hire former IC players.  IC doesn't hire former players from schools in the northeast.  We broke our unofficial rule to hire the guy from Amherst and look how that turned out.

What happened with the Amherst kid?

Canned him.  He was the OC last season.

Why did they fire him?  What is the story there?  Was he a GA?

Don't know the details.  Just heard about it when I was reading that story on Mark Raymond's resignation.  My guess is the offense's performance last year would have something to do with it.

Yea you gotta think they didnt do to much new since Angelico left though.....

To be honest, even when Angelicho was coaching I think Welch was pretty heavily involved in the play selection.  That can't have changed with Angelicho gone.  Maybe Welch just decided to cut out the middle man and go ahead and call the plays.

Seems like the decline in offense could easily be traced to replacing Felicetti, regardless of who was in the booth.  But, like I said, I don't know the details.

I mean since 1994/1995 (when IC stopped running the option) the offense has had many of the same characteristics from what I can gather.  Still one of the best in the country of course.

1994 was also Welch's first year at the helm.

He definitely opened it up (though, I suspect any forward passes would be considered "opened up" compared to the offense Butterfield ran).  I remember BY putting it up like 50 or 51 times against Cortland my freshman year.

I always thought it was ironic that a former running back would come in as a head coach and start chucking the ball all over the lot.  Though, if you look at it, he has had some great QBs (Weideman, the guy after him that was also a stud pitcher, BY, Felicetti) and some great pass catchers- be they WR, TE or RB- (Ceesay, Erne, Mulkeen, Giorgio, Dargush, Esposito, etc.).  Maybe his roster just sets up where he can't resist but to throw it.

EDIT:  The QB I couldn't think of is Mike O'Donovan and I also left off Todd Wilkowski.

Yea Wideman was the first QB IC had that couldnt really run but was a prototype college qb (6'3 210?) They just couldnt really run the option when he got there but luckily they didnt have to.

And Im trying to think who started the whole pass game for IC....Im not sure if it was this guy from Rowan (Robert Jones) or if it was coach Czar (one of the best coaches ever).

Speaking of Neil Weidman and Brian Young, they were fantastic QB's from down in my neck of the woods. Pretty good on the hardwood as well - both could light it up from pretty much anywhere on the court.

I believe the Zapata kid from Hornell (BY Alumni) will be a very prized posession in a year's time if he does not go DI - which I doubt.

I'm surprised Fisher, Alfred, etc aren't getting more of the local talent around the area. Keeley is from Cal-Mum, and I know Fisher has a few from that area, but not as many as I had anticipated.

Edit: Robinson was from there, and I believe the best back to ever come from the Southern Tier. Zapata is setting records though, and I'd look for Fisher, Alfred, and Ithaca to be courting him hard core.

Its funny you mention that.

If you look at the alltime New York State Basketball leading scorers you will find all these guys like Kareem Abdul Jabar, Kenny Anderson, Juwan Howard, and then in the middle of all them is Neil Wideman from Dansville High School.

And of course the almighty TQ is from Hornell as well!

The kid was amazing - I watched him pull up from places nobody has any business shooting from.

Who is TQ ... is that a Quinlin (sp?) ?
