NYS Section II Football Records (through 2005)

Schenectady High School - .236 winning percentage since Mount Pleasant & Linton merged programs in 1988.   :'(

Speaking of Mike Hart, I for one, am guilty of thinking he would flop @ Michigan. I saw him play in sectionals at the Carrier Dome, and was impressed but not overly.

He's bulked up a TON since then.

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

I believe the proper plural for Elvis is Elvi.  I could be mistaken though, but the Flying Elvi sounds smoother.

Speaking of Neil Weidman and Brian Young, they were fantastic QB's from down in my neck of the woods. Pretty good on the hardwood as well - both could light it up from pretty much anywhere on the court.

I believe the Zapata kid from Hornell (BY Alumni) will be a very prized posession in a year's time if he does not go DI - which I doubt.

I'm surprised Fisher, Alfred, etc aren't getting more of the local talent around the area. Keeley is from Cal-Mum, and I know Fisher has a few from that area, but not as many as I had anticipated.

Edit: Robinson was from there, and I believe the best back to ever come from the Southern Tier. Zapata is setting records though, and I'd look for Fisher, Alfred, and Ithaca to be courting him hard core.

BY was a great hoop player.  If memory serves, he was seriously contemplating playing hoop at IC after his senior football season but had a nagging injury from the playoffs that kept him out.

I played a ton of pickup hoop with him after I had hung it up as well.  Always good runs.

BY also phenomenal on the baseball field....from Pep's perspective of watching him pitch, play first base and effortlessly hit homeruns during his Alfred-Almond Youth Baseball career (not sanctioned Little League). Pep may have played some pickup hoop with BY as well... but more recently with his brothers Mark (IC grad) and Scott (now playing at RIT). Pep was always disappointed BY didn't follow his father's and uncle's footsteps and don the purple in Saxonville. Pep will never forget the Miracle at Geneva in 1971 when with the Saxons trailing 21-7 with just over 6 minutes remaining, Bob, lined up to punt from the AU-24, threw instead to the unmarked wideout Charlie (always out wide to cover punts) who went 76 yards for a TD, sparking the 28-21 come-from-behind win in a perfect 8-0 season in which AU won the Lambert Bowl. What run-on sentence?

don't feel bad, in the realm of upstate NY crappy cities, I'd choose Schenectady over Amsterdam any day.

p.s. I played there before they took the pats logo.

hey tags----about those strokes--better make that 7
bad round the other day

I had a dream last night that Ithaca led Fisher 40-6 at halftime, and whoever #5 is was crying like a baby leaving the field.  It was entertaining.

Seriously though, will Fisher be competitive this year? They lose who was by far their best player on offense, and who was by far their best player on defense (Lang is gone, correct?).

I assume their offensive line will still be huge, and they recruit well, but doesn't a drop off seem in store for the Fish?

ouch-tecmo--that sounds like wishful thinking.
yes rob is gone--and happily on here- but i think the offense is still sound and they should challenge for another e8 title

I dunno, granted I only saw Fisher once or twice a year.  When I was there though, Lang was a complete animal, probably the best linebacker I've seen in Division III, along with the kid from Alfred a couple years back.  He was simply in on every tackle.  That will be a tough hole to plug.

Stepnick returns, however, and if healthy can cause a lot of havoc.

While I don't want to bring winmag back from the shadows, Reile has shown very little against Ithaca over the past couple years.  I have no doubt he'll run all over the Mount Ida's of the world behind the big offensive line, but we'll have a better idea at the end of the year if he's truly an elite, full-time back. He'll see a lot of eight or even nine in the box, especially if the wide receivers continue to struggle.  They looked flat out horrible when I saw them last year.

I don't know who it is...but there's got to be some very good IC connection at Hornell.  Seems like IC has gotten some amazing athletes out of there over the years.

And there it is.  Still #4?  I could have sworn Lew Alcindor and Kenny Anderson were on that list.

And you know what?  I bet they dont keep NYC stats.

JU - 'gro hit the nail on the head it is the breakdown of public/private in NYC.  Anderson went to Molloy (private catholic).  What I don't get is how CBA (Paulus', etc) in 'cuse can compete with all of the public schools (and crush most of them) and there is no breakdown of the public/private.
