Spiedie knows it is not D3, but Spiedie wants to know what it is going to take for the 'Cuse to turn it around. Are they on the right road? Any thoughts?

its tough.  I think Robinson has them headed in the right direction, but they were so far down I think it's gonna take some time.  Unfortunately I don't think Gross (AD) will give him too much longer to turn it around.  If they don't go at least .500 this season, I think theres a good chance he'll get canned.

Either way, it hasn't been pretty so far...

Step 1: Get new uniforms.  What high school kid in his right mind wants to look like this on television:

At this rate they are going to play Oregon in the Sharpie Accent Highlighter Bowl:

Or possibly the RCA Throw out your HDTV and Switch Back to Black & White Bowl.

Jose, I remember tyhat sign like it was yesterday.  I was on campus for camp and we drove right by it up South Aurora.  It was classy and tastfully done with a comma.

A parent complained to the Athletic Department and people knew we lived there.  Still not sure why the parent called Athletics and not some other department.

New coaches- Robinson has been trying to fit square pegs in round holes from day one, he's a cordinator at best not a HC.....

better recruits- They let paulus-duke PG and mike hart walk out of their back yards...

Turning it around will be like turning the Titanic around AFTER it hit the iceberg.  Its going to be a long time before they get that program back on its knees... not even feet.. that'll be a lot longer.  The players are incredibly slow, and its tough to recruit when you dont win much (i dont consider beating Buffalo much of a win).
Syracuse screwed up big when they got rid of Coach P.  So he had a couple down seasons... nothing like the last few Robinson years though.  Football in Syracuse hasnt been the same since McNabb era.  Losing Miami, and Boston College, and VA Tech didnt help either.  The Big East was headed in a great direction, even had Penn State on the fence considering to join at one point.  Who wants to play for Syracuse when they can play for WVA, USF, Louisville, and Rutgers... they dont get nearly the snow we get, not to mention, the girls are alot better looking there than in Syracuse. (I know, I live here)

With all the changes going on at SU, new A.D. , losing Manley Field house to Carmello's plan, a bball team that just lost all of its good players and now Rautins, a Lax team that has just missed NCAA's for the first time in 25 years... its tough times on the SU hill.  Not to mention 2 weeks ago they announced they were having talks with a private architect about the demolition of the Carrier Dome.  The answer to SU athletics problems... start playing DIII.

did they call Athletics or did someone who took the call know athletes had lived there for years?  plus, JW was probably fairly noticeable.

I suppose when you see a Dinosaur in the front yard it was fair to assume.  I know they didn't recognize us from watching Bomber hoops on TV.

I bet Hart would be open to playing for them now....  Isn't Cuse in the same conference as App State?

realistic

ouch....but they'd probably get blown out by app state at this point.

JQV

In all seriousness, I think the talen in D1 is just more spread out than it used to be and the schools that got that second cut of recruits are having to share more than ever.

In Syracuse's case, they are losing kids to USF in Tampa for sure.  Cuse used to have a huge Tampa presence for some reason.  (I mean, why would a kid from Tampa want to go to college in Central New Yor....oh wait).  Now that USF is on the scene, and in the same conference, those kids are staying home.

I would guess the same is true of Rutgers and kids from NJ, but I don't know.

Knightstalker

Rutgers is keeping some of the blue chip players that used to go to Penn State, ND and Syracuse in state now.  Rutgers is also getting top players from FL to come to NJ due to Schiano's ties in FL from his Miami days.
