yeah - the cold on the South Hill is bad b/c of the wind.  It's nasty.   But KS- I am surprised by what you said about MN, I've seen some winters and nothing was like the one I spent in MN.  For a St Johns playoff game the saturday after Thanksgiving it was -2 before the windchill at noon on a sunny day.  The worst day was when it was -27 before the windchill when I woke up.  Many nights it felt great to go inside to unheated ice rinks compared to outside.  Also - I never saw an engine block heater in NY.....

Engine block heaters were all the rage in the North Country.  Actually, the only time the local HS was closed was when the temp was -40 and the diesel froze in the buses.  StLarry always liked the frostbite warnings sent out just before going to class.

I went to see my friend at Plattsburgh during the winter, and that was some kind of cold I've never felt before.

some great news for everett

Wow that is great news. I watched the whole game and at live speed I thought the hit looked really bad...for the Denver player. It is always a terrible sight to see ANY football player carried off like that. I hope and pray Everett will be okay.

As much as I hate to have that play remind me of anything I was thinking earlier today about the Alfred player Julio. Does anyone have an update on his progress? It is such a shame that stuff like that has to happen. I really do feel for anyone that is in any way connected to something like that. I could not begin to understand I guess.

Pep pastes in previous post.....

Just read a piece on Julio Fuentes in the Olean Times Herald's Football Preview. Fuentes is the starting Alfred tailback who in the Saxons' 2006 opener suffered a paralyzing spinal injury. Following several months in Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, he was admitted at the Shepherd Clinic in Atlanta where he underwent several months of rehab. He's now back home in Olean, NY, continuing his rehab. He says the support he has received has impacted his daily life.

Quoting the article here:

Fuentes says he never wonders, 'Why me," and on the rare days he feels a bit down, "I pray, though probably not as much as I should."

Still he admits, "I feel better every day and can see the improvement... hopefully, eventually, I'll come all the way back."

Meanwhile, Fuentes, who's always been chided for being vertically challenged, hastn't lost his sense of humor.

"I played football at 5-2," he said. "But since they took out a vertebrae, I think I'm only 5-1 1/2."

As for the future, Fuentes has a plan.

"We've put in for a van to help get me around," he said. "Then, I want to go back to school (at Alfred). I'm not going to go this fall, it's too soon.

"But I would like to return in the spring. I wouldn't be able to live on my own, I'd need an aide, but that would be available to me."

And when he goes back as a first-semester sophomore, Fuentes will have a different major.

"I was in business," he said of his freshman year, "But after this experience, I'd like to change it to counseling.

"I think I have something to share and give back to people."

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

he won them a world series championship only 2 years ago.  I'd say that warrants an extension.  Bad season this year for the White Sox but he will get them back.

I like his fire and intensity as a manager.  Although sometimes he might go a little too far.

Ozzie Guillen is one of the worst managers in baseball and an embarrassment to his team and the league. He was blessed with five starting pitchers having freakish career years in 2005. That is not what got them the world series. It was not his fiery ability to call media members "fags".

Ken Williams is also solidifying his claim to being one of the worst GMs in baseball.

tecmobowler

Guillen seems like Kenny's kind of manager, especially after Williams went on his tirade against Frank Thomas.
Thousands of fans join in the revelry, showing their Bomber pride and support for the football team. Some fans take the rowdiness a little too far, however, by starting fights, damaging property and tipping Port-a-Potties. -Ithacan, November 10th

Ro knows, you dont know winter until you get 28 feet of snow... like we got this past year in Central Square.

why dont you start wearing your vest again.

... on a side note (i'm really not salty this morning)

Nice work FDC on recruiting new members.

I am not too worried about the Bombers.  If watching 20 years of Gator Football has taught me anything it's that playing two cupcakes to open is less about just how sharp you look than it is about getting out some kinks, trying some new things, and letting some backups get some game snaps.

Our season starts on September 22.

Jose,

Sure, sure . . . just so you acknowledge that cupcake - Lycoming beat IC last year in OT 33-30 and kept you from hosting a playoff game.

No problem - sometimes you can choke on a cupcake!

Oh MAN REMEMBER THE QUARTER JUGS!!! THOSE THINGS ROCKED!  They were our counter attack to those stupid Fisher Cowbells.

I think I would also approve the FDC bikini for the lovely sweet 17's I recruited saterday.

That was two years ago 80.  When we added you guys three years ago I was really excited.  But have been pretty disappointed twice.  Do we have you at home next fall?
