Red Zone Offense

I actually thought that yesterday could be a good turning point for Juvan.  He marched the team down the field near the end of the game.  By all accounts, he is handling pressure a lot better in the pocket.  The team was in a hole and he didn't fold.

We are, however, leaving tons of points in the red zone.  This was the case last year, and continues to be this year.  I'd point this failure to a few things

1.)  Juvan's decisionmaking.  Obviously he has a huge arm, but does he have the touch and decision-making needed in tight space?

2.)  Run blocking.  Are we capable of that this year?

3.)  The progress of Jeff Bostic.  The guy is a foot taller that any CB, but is falling on the depth chart, and has been ineffective by the goaline.  He's got time but has a long way to go.

I got a little bit of practice that summed a lot of this up this week.  Team was running two minute drills, and Juvan, with a defender in his face threw an amazing 35 yard pass to Hogan on a deep post pattern.  Being pretty close up, I couldn't believe the zip he put on the pass.  It was really something.  Two plays later, however, he forced a pass at the goalline into triple coverage, which landed in the hands of Ryan Terlecki.

We've moved the ball really well, but need to break through that wall that seems to sit around the twenty.

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

Other stuff

Certainly it's an issue that we've gone through three offensive coordinators in three years, and two on the defensive side in those past three years.  The hirings this year were pretty late, which seems to point to the fact that some are learning on the job.

For the life of me, I still can't figure out why a school with all sorts of football tradition can't get a guy that can kickoff past the 25.  We're going to be giving up a short field all year long.

In conclusion, we're a good team, but there is work to be done.  One of the hard things about D3 football, is so few of us see opposing teams since little is televised.  Having watched the last eight years of Bomber football, I've seen the team go through quite a change.

The "BY Era" 1999-2001ish had an incredible defense, but struggled at time to score points.

The Felicetti Era had the most complete Bombers teams that I have seen, especially in 2003 and 2004.  The team could score at will, and at least in the first few years, the defense was strong as well.

What will we look back upon at the Juvan era?  For now it is a team who has for the most part beat the teams it should, and fallen to the teams at their level.  There are signs of a revitalized defense,  but also a revolving door at the coaching staff.  Only time will tell!

After all this, I'm pretty sure we'll destroy Fisher (who has never won at Butterfield).

Early Prediction:

Bombers- 42
Fisher- 2 (sympathy safety to end the game)

I am glad to see Fisher was able to handle the scare last night. I was really happy to see the way they responded to the adversity. Fisher had not been tested yet this year, and they really bared down after the interception that brought the lead down to 2.

well 6 days and counting till the big one next week. Fisher/Ithaca is still going to be a good one. IC can get right back into the mix for the AQ with a win. I can't wait. I will be there early with the grill goin. Look for the tailgate with the big Fisher Flag...

Thats the case all around college football since they moved the kick off back to the 30 instead of the 35.....

Good stuff Tecmo, I was waiting for those kinds of predictions to begin.  I like the undying faith as well that Ithaca will emphatically defeat Fisher.

Early Prediction

Fisher - 72
Ithaca - Pi (3.14159265)

ER blows past the virus & muscles his way to the boards - good to see you were able to make it back.

'91- Good to see you too, glad you made it home safely... must have been a long a$$ ride.

Some thoughts as many of you seem to miss us IC guys!

Always Tecmo, always 8)

pg04

I'd like to know how you would score pi in a football game.  Is it like a rouge in the CFL?

boobyhasgameyo

PG,

You just get a little extra for an especially sweet field goal, like hitting one from 45 yards out that bounces on the goal post before going in.  That's all

tecmobowler

Ah... the CFL roogie!

Tecmo and Hats have a great CFL story from Vegas for a rainy day.
