Q,

I wasn't trying to start a turf battle!  I feel like we're playing tug-a-war for Pep.  Seems a bit odd.  You gonna make it back for Cortaca?

Had the flight booked but, a conflict has arisen.  Seems like I am going to get shut out of Bomberland this year.

Are you going to make it back twice?  I am jealous.

Iceman did me a favor earlier this season so, I have promised to underwrite the Cortaca tailgate party.  I am going to send him a check about a week out and let him purchase some resources for the festivities.

hmmm.... no wonder the chairman was ousted... accepting under the table "favors"...just make sure you hide the blue dress

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

Mr. N: You can't mean they've closed their doors forever? Yikes! Where will Pep go for a coffee and complimentary hot glazed donut when in Rachacha late evenings?

Pep,

There's one less than a mile from my house here, and the hot light is still on.  If you ever feel like making the trip out, I've got a guest bedroom...and fundraiser coupons for buy a dozen, get a dozen free.  I know it's a bit higher elevation than Alf, but I'm sure they taste just as good.

MIYH:

What's the elevation out there? Pep is interested in knowing whether Krispy Kreme needs to alter its recipe when making donuts at high altitudes. When Pep's in the kitchen preparing confections out of a box, he's always been curious about the instructions regarding high altitude. I.e. instructions on a Pillsbury Fudge Supreme Chocolate Chunk Premium Brownie Mix state: "HIGH ALTITUDE (ABOVE 3500 FEET): Add 1/3 cup flour to dry brownie mix and increase water to 1/4 cup. .." Does MIYH follow the "high altitude" suggested alterations when baking brownies? What happens if one doesn't?

Pep appreciates the kind invitation...if Pep goes into a Krispy Kreme fit, he may be booking a flight and knocking at MIYH's door.

While this post is (characteristically) off topic, Pep contends that it's being posted in the A.M., prime time for donuts.  ::)

Incidentally, +K for the higher elevation!

Pep,

Forget Denver.  Why not visit Dixie, Krispy Kreme's home turf.  Too bad that moron CEO tried to expand their brand nationally.  He nearly ran the company out of business.  (Apparently, not all yankees were as fond of the Kremes as you and Mr. N.).  If you are ever in Tampa on a Friday morning, come by my office, the firm puts out two dozen of those suckers for us every week and, if you get to a Tampa Krispy Kreme, you can get cuban coffee to wash down your donut, a combination so good it will make your tongue slap your brains out.

Tough couple days for Enforcer...

"I know, guys!  Let's kick a field goal!"

Hopefully my other favorite football team will step up this weekend.  I'll be there.

MIOH has a feeling we will see Welch open up the playbook this week.

He's expecting to see at least 1-2 trick plays that have been collecting dust over the past few years.

Ashkar will throw a TD pass this saterday

Hey guys- just in case i do try to sneak out to IC this weekend- what are the tailgating parameters/best places to do so?

I should add, in the interest of full disclosure, that I hope Fisher does find some staying power and develop into a yearly rivalry.  Growing up a Gator fan, you learn that in-conference rivalries can be as fun as natural rivalries, like FSU or Cortland.  UF-Tennessee and Florida-Georgia are two of the best weekends every fall.  If Fisher can get past the 6 year wall, which is where other programs have seemed to fall back, this game could become an annual event.

Interesting -- what teams have hit that wall? I haven't really studied that theory.

Well, in the late 90s, Buffalo State was one of the best teams in the region under Coach Boyes. There was talk then that Buffalo State was the top team in the region and that they were going to challenge Ithaca every year to get into the playoffs. This was around the end of the old system - four teams from each region - and the start of the new one. Buff State had solid players too like Derek Baker, Chris Henry, Shawn Starks, etc etc.

But, when Coach Boyes moved into the role of athletic director, the program completely went downhill. The years under Swank were god-awful and the program is still trying to dig itself out that hole. Coach Shaffner has the right ideas now, it's just a matter of putting things together.

Then, along with the demise of Buffalo State came along the strengthening of Brockport. They went from homecoming cannon fodder into a team that some thought would battle with Ithaca as one of the top teams in the state. And it developed into a good rivalry over the course of three-four years, sparked by some great players at Brockport and a particularly emotional quarterback. Brockport got the better of Ithaca for a few years and there was one sizeable beatdown out at Brockport.

Then, most of the great players graduatd, Darnley graduated and Brockport completely falls apart to an extent. Their conference situation and schedule don't help them much either, but it seems the talent level has dropped drastically. They appear to be putting things together now, but, still, they aren't at their previous level of success.

And now, the latest time to come down the pike is St. John Fisher. I think Fisher could be different. The school seems committed to putting money into the program to make it a winner and the coaching staff continues to bring in solid athletes. They've gone from Jason Myers (pre-powerhouse days) to Mark Robinson and now to James Reile/Ryan Hanson. Soon, the Cardinals will be coming up upon the "six-year wall" that Jose was talking about.

+k.

EDIT: Pat, out of curiosity, are you lurking on the E8 board this week because the conversation is interesting or, because you have your finger hovering over the shutdown button?

Neither, really -- I always read every board every day (assuming it has new posts). While I'm aware this board could certainly boil over, I haven't even been close to thinking about locking it.

Just messing around Pat.  I was not a part of lockgate as I was on a plane en route to South Hill.  That is at least one E8Nation debacle that I cannot be blamed for.  But possibly the only one.  (well, also not sure that I can be blamed for the Naz-Fisher brawl that, according the Democrat & Chronicle, was caused by abusive posts on Posting Up).

Usually the best spot for visitors is up above Butterfield in the Terrace Parking Lot.  Just enter campus make a right and keep heading up the hill... you make another sharp right when you pass "The Stadium" and your there.

The lot to the left directly across the entrance to Butterfield is reserved for high rolling alums like Jose Q and is usually guarded by a campus safety person.  That's where you will find the FDC, Mr.N, Lumpy and the rest of the Bomber supporters.

MIOH doesnt know how the construction of the Business School has impacted tailgating this year... Dubbz might be able to help out there.

Pat Coleman

Brockport was four years. I didn't have enough Buffalo data.

I guess it depends on what we expect in those six years -- the four Brockport years were sandwiched by 6-4 seasons. But I think it's like one good class, which gets you hopefully three years. If you can stack that with another good class, that's great. But those classes overlap.

Bridgewater is an example of a team that's gone longer than six. St. Norbert, longer than six. Springfield has had a pair of shorter than six, etc. Just was wondering if JoseQ had some teams in mind, because I am definitely interested.

Tailgating was great the other week.  Student-safety-whatever guy at the gate even respected my FDC credentials when I pulled up to the "high rollers" lot.  I didn't notice any impact from the construction - the only place it screws things up, really, is behind Job Hall and the admissions office.

Chateau Kaz00 is at a higher elevation than Merrill Field, where's my +K?

As for baking, Mrs. Kaz00 has noticed a substantial difference between Alfred and Jersey when it comes to baking.  The altitude and lack of humidity are the two biggest culprits.

As for the 11/3 showdown at Butterfield, Kaz00 remembers the last Saxons game in Ithaca when the band was wearing short sleaves in early November.  Here's to hoping for another day like that!
