Is it no longer the West End Brewing Co.?

still is west end, but it is known as saranac.
like a nickname.
Even have signs on the thruway for the Saranac Brewery when in reality it is west end

Even if SJF doesn't sustain a high level of success (even though I don't see that happening very soon) their committment to the program will affect similar schools in USNY.   I think they have the momentum in place to be a consistant 7 win (minimum), make the playoffs every 2 or 3 year program.  My hats off to them, having played against them in the "soft" years.

The other private lib art schools in NY (Hobart, Ithaca, Alfred, SLU, Union, Wick, UofR) need to differentiate themselves in order to draw the top talent. new facilities, promote special academic programs, etc. Most schools do this already I just wanted to point out SJF's case.

p.s. no I don't support SJF, they still stink in my book ;)

bizzare - didn't they also make Billy beer in it's day?

SJF guys,

Bouncing off 'gro, what do you think is the magnet(s) that has brought in the players that led to the program's improvement?

Billy Beer was made by local breweries all over, the name and can were basically liscensed out.

KS likes Saranac Pale Ale, it is the best of the line.

the bills, the money and an administration that supports the program are the keys

Can you elaborate on the money part?  What do you mean?

bills resources in regard to the donations and the willingness of Ralph Wilson to donate TONS of money that in turn gets matched by in kind donations when alums and area businesses see the success in the college as a whole.

it seems like a snowball situation.
once the capital revenue is there,  there is almost a pile on atmosphere in order for some to get on the good end of a good thing.
it also brings about numerous pr and marketing opportunities that were just never there before.

i say matched--that was too strong a word----but you catch my drift.
tough for anyone to match what Mr. Wilson has invested!!

Speaking for myself,  I think the proximity to Rochester is also a plus.  I have lived all over the country including the finger lakes region and many other places have been either too big or backwards or both.
