play like what? please elaborate.....

From what I saw, they blocked well, tackled well and made plays on offense and defense when it mattered.

Upstate, exactly right!  NSRB is just trying to get us going which he did effectively.  We played a very good game overall.  The game was at Butterfield, which is a tough place to play.  Offensively we moved the ball basically at will.  We missed a few scoring opportunities which I didn't like but it happens.  Kramer was spectacular passing the ball, and we ran very effectively as well.  Defensively we made the plays on third and fourth down when we had to and that says something about the character of this unit.  I was very impressed and this team will be a national contender once again this season.

I agree that you pounded them from watching the D3cast.  What did he want? You guys to come out and blow them out 66-0? Give me a break!

There was even mention of officiating in the post!

I know!  Like I said NSRB is just trying to stir up some trouble.  It's okay though.

Yeah that comment on the officiating was ridiculous.  I didn't see any problems with the officials.  Minimal penalties called and a good job overall.  They let the boys play.  He's probably upset about the holding call to end the first half, which was a good call.  Our DE Pollock was approaching Juvan for a sack when the offensive lineman blatantly grabbed him from behind.

Next week @ Hartwick should be interesting.  Hartwick obviously has a great offense.  Defense I don't think they are too good.  We should score at will.  Slow down Boltus and Crea and it should be a comfortable win!

IC was outrushed by over 150yds yesterday, I dont know what more you can expect from them especially because they are a balanced, non option team.

They were butter on third down, something I was very concerned about going into the game.

No matter how you want to slice it playing there is tough and its not easy going in there and dominating them.

FisherAlum05

I know its a long time away.  But I am very nervous about this Alfred University team this seaason.

They are clicking on all cylinders and look like they will give Fisher a great game.  Thats gonna be a high scoring game I believe.  Defense will obviously be the key.  The team that can slow the other down even a little bit will probably come out victorious.  I'm hoping both teams come into the game 9-0.  That way both teams will still get into the NCAA tourney.  The winner get the automatic bid, and the loser picking up an at-large bid.

Just a few thoughts on what I saw in Ithaca Saterday:

1.  First off big props to the Ithaca girls dance team welcoming everyone to campus with their car washing ability and their jumping up and down ability as well... Big Ed and I didn't stop to get the buick cleaned, but it was a nice welcome.

2. Fisher dominated a team that just flat out isn't as good as people are used to seeing.  Everything is coming from the O and D lines this year, and that's where Fisher is getting all the advantages.  I know Byers was hurt, but when he was in I saw him on the ground a lot and not doing much.

3. Fisher should have an easy go if they don't have the "let-down" game like they have in the past (Norwich and Springfield).  This team has probably more experience combined then teams in the past and hopefully Kramer, Fortune, Stepnick and the rest won't let that happen.

4.  Rowdy- you're not making much sense on your post.  Kramer and the offense didn't have to be flashy and spectacular because they took what IC gave them, (which was pretty much anything at will).  Talking to some of the parents before the game we mentioned that Fisher had to go back to what has worked in the past (inside zone, bubble screens and hitch plays) and look what happened...

5. Lastly, I along with everyone else know that AU is going to be the next big test at the end of the year, hope they don't look ahead past Springfield though.  I would like to see some film on Alfred, I heard that Sharpe was banged up in the game (is that true Pep or Kazoo?)  Either way, should be a 2 man race the rest of the way in.

Robby,

welcome back its been awhile.  Good post.  You're right about Fisher not letting down.  If we stay focused, and play one game at a time, I think everything will work itself out in the end.  Like Vosburgh often says, put that win in the back pocket (he's quite a nerd, but I love him).  +k

Issues:
-Need a presiden who is pro-athletics.  Not one that just comes to the games and shows support.
-Where is that new field house and facilities that have been promised for years?
-When are the Jets/ Giants going to set up shop in Bomberville... or was it the Raiders.. I hear they might want to move to the Finger Lakes region... jk
-What happened to the Welch regime that NRSB has gotten used to over the past 5 years?  Please dont tell me that this is the end... please... please...
-When are the Bombers going to learn how to tackle.  ... note the period (.)  That is a stern statement.  Yesterday was aweful...  No excuses.

Add recruiting to that list.  Ithaca needs to forget about Rochester and concentrate on areas where SJF, Cortland and Hartwick wont get anyone.  And thats the NE prep/private schools, especially the Catholic schools now (Xaverian, BC High, St. Johns Prep).  Back in the late 1980s/1990s the bomber roster was flooded with New England private and public school players that made Ithaca a true regional and national power.  The best players are always still going to be from random towns from around upstate, but football in New England is very strong at that private and prep school areas once again.

And the Patriots are absoutly scary this year.  I mean scary.

That was an obvious hold.  And you can't get upset if four flags end up getting thrown on the play, although they may have been tough to see on the internet broadcast.  I think NSRB is more upset at the trap call in the second quarter...as I listened to him berate the line judge for the rest of the game about it.

I thought Fisher played smart.  They didn't come in and do anything really flashy; they were efficient and took what the Bombers gave them.  Maybe that's what Rowdy meant, but I don't want to put words in his mouth.

After seeing them live for the first time this year, there are some very real concerns for Ithaca, and I think bomber27 might have a very real reason to be worried.

Lastly, flying in and out of Ithaca may have been the dumbest thing I could have done.  Convenient, yes, but I felt like I was taking my life in my hands both arriving and departing.  Having to sprint through the Detroit airport to make both connections wasn't much fun either.  Luckily Northwest respects the hat, and held the flight for me.

JU-  Speaking of recruiting, IC also refused to recruit two all-state players right in their own back yard- Robby and Kramer- maybe they are just not good judges of talent anymore

tecmobowler

It should be no shock that Fisher outgained IC on the ground since Donovan had a whopping nine carries, and Baez three. Five of Jamie's nine carries came on the first drive!

With two fifth-year seniors and a fifth year fullback, Welch panics and abandons the run.  Time for an offensive coordinator so Coach can go back to carrying a clipboard.

As for the defense, I thought they hung in there.  The front line played pretty well, Scalice and Chier had some good moments, and Terlecki was in on 21 tackles!

That being said, we weren't going to get any points for creativity.  It's like the nintendo button was stuck on "3-4 base" over and over and over.... how about a CB blitz? Bump and run coverage? Heck even a stunt would be exciting....

I can't blame the fans for not going wild for yesterday's performance.  If this keeps up I think we're looking at 5-5... hopefully.

A fine point about recruiting, ER.  I have heard from many folks that Fisher makes people feel wanted, while IC often go about things with a "take us or leave us" attitude.

Something needs to change.

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

Judge of talent?  All you have to do is look in the newspaper to find out who the all-state players are.  Thats recruiting tool #1 for all levels of college football.
