In other news.....

Ithaca 30
SJF 0

Halftime

Oh would you look at that... Mark Robinson comes out after halftime and scores 5 straight TD's on runs of 2, 65, 34, 10, and 5.

Deja Vu all over again.

And that's the game folks, Fisher comes out and scores 42 unanswered and JU wakes up to wet bedsheets.

JU also wakes up and finds his drawers pulled down with some vasoline next to him and Lance Bass sleeping next to him...and then he wakes up again and realizes it was all one big nightmere

haha, that was absolutely hysterical.  made my night.  -k superman (i think thats good for you if im not mistaken)

just out of curiosity, should the team have been over at Shoekolph (sp) under the lights running plays saturday night?  They're D-III college kids, give 'em a break and let them have a few brews.

As for the 52-2 prediction.  I can only assume you are the one that was interviewed on air before the game making the prediction.  How exactly did the radio guys insult you if you said it on the air.  Also, isn't this less than a week after one of you guys asked the radio guys to interview you so they didn't interview some new fan who would spout off something stupid.

Maybe it's just me but predicting 52-2 (even in jest) on the radio is pretty dumb.  But then again, so is going on the air drunk.  But maybe thats just the broadcaster in me.

Just to clarify, I suppose I came off harsher than I meant to.  I was in a really bad mood most all day Saturday (and not only because of the football game) and I incorrectly interpreted the sight of players out having a grand old time as a lack of dedication to and emotional investment in the team.  They are D-III kids after all and I was probably taking the game - and myself - a bit too seriously.  Which is probably the first time that's ever happened in my life - I have a few ex-girlfriends that would happily verify that I take nothing seriously.  Apologies and if I could +k realistic for setting me straight on that matter I would.

There were a few outlandish predictions made by myself and a few others, and I don't recall exactly which one was used on the radio.  I didn't hear a live broadcast of anything - just a reference to what I'm assuming was an unaired interview once it became clear that Fisher would handily win.  I shouldn't have gotten as upset as I did.  All expectations of neutrality aside, I maintain that it is inappropriate for a student broadcaster to poke fun at any team's fans, especially his or her own, and, although I don't recall exactly what was said, I am sure that IC's student broadcasters were professional enough to avoid that.  I was on all kinds of painkillers for an agitated elbow and who knows what they did to my temper.  Again, sorry for getting upset.  Tags can verify that I sometimes have a short fuse when it comes to my football teams.  =)

Didn't mean to bring up an old topic - just wanted to make that apology and explain myself a bit.

Donavan isn't all that impressive to be honest.

By season's end he will be the leading rusher in Ithaca History.

MIOH has found him to be quite impressive during his 4 years on South Hill.

Jonny Utah

bombers won last night 72-0.  And JU is Ithacas all time leading rusher now.

JU, hysterical posts.  +k.  You must have been locked in during that Fisher game to convince Butts to divert Wittman's carries to you (who I assume was one of your teammates based on other time references).

To say Welch needs to be fired is ridiculous, but to say he needs to have less of an impact on the game is a GREAT IDEA!!!  Welch needs to go back to carrying a clip board and managing his staff and players.  He should have NOTHING to do with offensive play calling.  For IC to lay an egg against Hartwick and then do much of the same vs SJF is terrible.  Let's not forget that at the half it was a 14-7 game and IC had much of the momentum.  Then the defense stops them at the start of the 3rd and Welch goes back to the air show, why???  He needs to realize the DJ might have the arm Josh didn't, but he can't read a defense nor can he make the simple play.  We have a fifth year senior in the backfield who had 9 carries?  Again, the receivers dropped some balls, but the ground game was working and we didn't need to chuck-and-duck it was only 14-7.  It seems to me that we have yet another season without IC in the playoffs.
I didnt see the game, but I dont believe that getting out-rushed 250-50 is a working ground game...even if all 50 were in the first half.

JQV

You'd be right SJFF82, but you would reconsider if you learned that 40 or 45 of the 50 came on the first two possessions.

We had a really good mix on the first drive and moved the ball effectively.  Then we totally abandoned Donovan after a blocked FG.  The shots weren't wide enough but, it seemed like Blaise made a good adjustment when he realized we weren't going to run it again and dropped everyone into coverage.  This, combined with our receivers inability to get any separation, basically killed our offense.

EDIT: The yards and possessions above is just a guess.  It may be three possessions, it may be one.  I will look it up later if I have some time.

And you are correct, I would reconsider based upon that stat. Though, it is hard to definitevely state that 1 or 2 good rushing series early would mean that they were going to maintain that success had they stuck with it.

JQV

I am not sure any of us are arguing that Donovan was going to run for 20 or 25 yards per series.  But continuing to use the run with any success is obviously helpful in using the pass successfully.  Even if Donovan ends up with 100 yards for the day, the continued threat of Donovan requires the defense's attention, which opens up the pass...right?

Someone posted earlier that Juvan has trouble reading coverage.  Not sure how true that is because all his receivers are always covered.  I cannot remember a group of IC WRs worse at getting separation.  That means Juvan has to make a perfect throw.  Which brings us full circle to the running game.  If it is clear that we aren't even going to try to run, there is no reason not to drop everyone into coverage further complicating our inability to get open.

*In the interest of full disclosure.  I have never coached football or played it a high level.  This is simply my lay understanding of offensive football strategy.

** In the interest of further disclosure.  I hate teams that run the ball a lot.  But, then again, I grew up idolizing the Ol' Ball Coach and the Fun n' Gun.

Why have we abandoned him?  4 games in and he is already half way to his previous 2 seasons yd totals.  Have defenses learned to adjust to him and that is why he didnt have 1000 yard season every year?   Or is it we are abanding the run too early?  Other notes are 1) Angelico was here his first two seasons and 2) in 2005 any time we were inside the 5 yd line Baez/Davis got the ball out of the wish bone. 3) Jamie got hurt in 05 and only started 9 games.  I think he really only played in 8.
