Why does AU always have a player play both ways? Raynor/Brady/Miller, is depth an issue at AU?

As a famous D3 Poster once said during an ICTV broadcast... "It seems like everybody in Alfred is going both ways these days"  When you put on the Purple and call yourself a Saxon... it's not surprising to see guys going both ways is it?

+K for the laugh  :D

I have been trying to get a grasp on the season so far for a few days now and I can't do it. The only thing that has gone according to plan is that AU is very good. However, I did not really expect them to take SC to the woodshed like they did.

IC is 0-2 in the E8...that blows my mind. SC is 1-2 overall, and 0-1 in the league? I don't think there are enough losses out there for IC to have any chance to win the league. I think SC has a very uphill battle to fight..because I don't know if AU will lose more than a game. They have been very impressive. I think IC may still play a big roll in the league this year, with games against SC and AU left. If they could sneak up and win one or both of those games it could open the door for Fisher.
And where did Hartwick come from?

Fisher and AU is looking like it will be a big game at the end of the year. Conference championship? I don't know, I think SC will still have a lot to say about that.

Funny how it has gone so far...and it is shaping up to be a real crazy season in the E8.
I was not sold on Fisher before last week, but I was at the game saturday, and I think they can be very good this year. I don't know if they are as good as they were last year, but the running game looked good last weekend, the passing game was good as always, and the defense was better than I thought they would be. I thought IC would move the ball against Fisher. IC had no running game to speak of, and the passing game was really highlighted by a great catch, and a gimmick trick play.

So after two weeks of some conference play, how does everyone see the league?

I have it like this:
1) Fisher (6-0)
2) Alfred (5-1)
3) SC (3-3)
4) Hartwick (3-3)
5) Ithaca (3-3)
6) Utica (1-5)
7) Norwich (0-6)

but who knows?

GO FISHER!!!

I think the Ithaca people have said it alot, but it wasn't so much they didn't have a run game to speak of as it was them just abondoning it for reasons nobody can understand.

Pep
How's the JV? My son's playing with Susqu on Sunday.

Pep has seen bits and pieces of AU's JV team. Pep has seen a few brilliant moments. And Pep has seen a lot of not-so-brilliant moments. However, AU's approach to the JV program appears to be an "everyone plays" and one might see four QBs in a single game...not easy to establish consistency that way. Nevertheless, the JVs win some and they lose some. Some kids shine...and the coaches take notes.

Pep doesn't have a schedule handy...is the game at AU or in Selinsgrove?

Not that I am overlooking them, but they just arnt physically imposing as they used to be now that SJF is starting to develop bigger, faster and stronger O-lines.  Brockport used to be able to just put out their guys and lean on people to move piles, they're not able to do that anymore vs SJF.

It will be a close game though....

We'll see what chance they have this weekend as Brockport travels to Butterfield.  If they can hang tough or win, I suppose they may be able to do so with Fisher as well.

Pep contends that a couple of calls early in the game may have been what led the Pride out to the woodshed. Springfield took the kick-off and went 3-and-out. AU went the distance for a 7-0 lead.

Springfield responded with a drive that was thwarted by a couple of critical red zone penalties. With 1st and 10 at the AU 12, Sharpe ran for three yards but the Pride was flagged for an illegal block, moving the ball back to the 24. On 3rd-and-16 from the AU 18, Sharpe completed a PASS to the AU 1-yard line but the Pride was flagged for illegal procedure (although at the time Pep thought it was ineligible receiver downfield). WIth 3rd-and-22 from the AU 24, two Sharpe passes fell incomplete. Had Springfield scored on that possession, it would have been 7-7 and they might never have visited the woodshed.

But six plays later, AU was up 14-0. AU's game plan was to score early and often to take the Pride out of their comfort zone. It's difficult to play catch-up with a run-oriented attack. Even so, at 14-0, the Pride could have regrouped at halftime. Plus, the SC defense put together a goal line stand late in the second quarter to give them some momentum.

However, with 40 seconds to go in the first half, AU got the ball back on its own 47 and scored in just three plays that took all of 21 seconds. That made it 21-0. Then Saucobie Riley took the second half kickoff 88 yards to the house and AU had a 28-0 insurmountable lead. Riley caught Pep unprepared as Pep wasn't even at the bass drum to give the roll-off for the fight song!  :o

Those are some unique predictions.  Alfred at 5-1?  Their next 4 games are against Norwich, Hartwick, Utica, and Husson.  I doubt they will lose any of those games.  I think AU will be 7-0 going into that final stretch @ Hobart, @ Ithaca, and @ Fisher.

I will state again that I think Fisher is on their way to a 9-0 start before the Alfred finale at home.

Ithaca and Springfield are tough to predict.  I think Ithaca finishes up 6-4 with another loss to Alfred, and one more to either SC or Cortland.

I think Springfield will rebound and finish 7-3 with a loss to Fisher.  IC has a good chance to beat them as well though.

Honestly, I'm hoping IC can rebound and beat Alfred and SC.  Although that will be very tough.  But you can't ever count the Bombers out.  They have the talent just need to put it together with a good mix of run and pass.  And play a little defense as well.  An IC turnaround can really open the door for Fisher.

I get a little nervous thinking about that Brockport game in a couple weeks.  Almost always a tough game with the Golden Eagles.  Even last year, Brockport gave us a seriously close game which came down to the final horn.  2005 was the only season where Fisher really pasted them good.  One thing that will help though is that its alumni weekend.  A great crowd of rowdy, loud, drunk alumni makes for a particularly good atmosphere.  That will certainly help.

Speaking of which, the student body REALLY needs to start getting engaged in this movement and show some serious support. Sure, many of them show up, but it's still the alumni and parents making the noise (if you can really classify it as noise).

And another thing, I fully respect and understand that Fisher is somewhat of a religious school and all that jazz, but they need to loosen up their bow ties and let people tailgate. As long as it's kept within reason, and is still respectful, let people pitch a tent and drink a few ML's... what the hell does it hurt? When '91 came down, they were in the park & ride... I'll say that again... they were in the park & ride lot and a campus cop came over to break it up.

They get an alum in from 2 hours away to watch the game and show some love, and he can't have a beer during pre-game festivities.

I didn't like much about Ithaca, but what I did like is the fact that they let people tailgate. It really was a nice atmosphere to be in. People had tents all over, suv's trucks were popped up with beer spilling out of them, and everyone was having fun.

Ok, I'll stop ranting.

I agree.  Tailgating is part of football and they need to change their ways on that.

The only game they really allow it is on homecoming/alumni weekend.  Which, like I said, is in 2 weeks against Brockport.  Last years alumni game was great as we tailgated in the park-n-ride and had quite a time.  Plus they had a beer tent set up in the endzone area for alumni as well.

05: sjfcards was listing how the E8 CONFERENCE standings might pan out, with each team playing six games. Pep is hoping AU will be 7-0 going into the "playoff stretch" at Hobart, Ithaca and Fisher. While some think scheduling those three back-to-back and all on the road is crazy, Pep contends that the Saxons travel very well and should have good crowds at those games, each only about 90 minutes or less from Mayberry.
