Just a quick question...am I dreaming or did Lou Saban coach at AU very briefly once upon a time (early 1990's I'm thinking)?  His Wikpedia entry doesn't mention it, but I could swear I remember it.

And was he legendary?

He coached at Alfred State College

Ah, thanks Saxon.  I had my Alfred's mixed up, but not completely dreaming.

Close but no cigar.  :)

When I was in Alfred (long before Saban) it was a two year school most notable for it's wrestling program I believe.  Also about 3x as many students as AU with lots of females.

the only bad walk at fisher...was the walk from murphy to any class room building in the middle of winter...more than once I fell flat on my backside because they had not salted anything yet...

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

He coached at Alfred State College

He never really coached....he had a contract to initiate Alfred State's program and just before pre-season camp, he vaulted to Canton to coach there. Saban was no legend, at least at Alfred.

As for hills, Hartwick's campus gives one no mercy. AU's campus, while on a hillside, is well planned to allow for ease in passing of classes as all academic buildings, while "on the hill," are "on the level." The descent to Merrill Field, however, from Miller Performing Arts Center (where the band stores its instruments) is 98 steps down the Green Monster, which is an easy climb after a Saxon win-- ;) not so easy after a loss.  :(

hey pep.  just wondering if AUs field was always in the location where it is now at the bottom of that hill.....

and let me throw this out there to the board.  Which school has the worst hill to go back and forth to class from.  Ithaca, Hartwick or Alfred?  (I had an 8am class my freshman year at the NCR building from the West tower.....not a fun walk in 2 feet of snow)

Merrill Field is named after John Jake Merrill, one-time NYS Tax Commissioner and Saxon fan who donated the land in, I believe, the early 1920s. The field was damaged by the Flood of 1935 that brought the Mighty Kanakadea over the field leaving rocks and debris all over. Merrill's granddaughter still resides in Alfred in arguably Mayberry's oldest house next to the AU Welcome Center at Fasano House (at the traffic light).

As for the AU campus, the Pine Hill Suites are probably the most difficult to navigate for resident students. But they have the best view of the Hot Dog Day Weekend Pine Hill Derby every spring!

Saterday will be Pep's first visit to the campus. An alum who resides in Vermont has funded the trip....Pep is scurrying to try to fill the band wagon with musicians. It may be a small (but always spirited) group.

Pep,  As I was in Delta Sig (now Fasano House) our neighbor was Dr Rase, who taught High Temperature Chemical Phase Equilibria, is the granddaughter related?
