It is safe to say that Coach Vosburgh will have to lots of explaining to his AD, alumni, boosters, college president/board of trustees. Coach Vosburgh got gready, rather then do the staff play and go to OT. Instead, his program left Wright Stadium with their first loss and lots of embarrassment. If I was a senior on the Fisher team, I would be pissed that the seasons undefeated status is gone and my last game against Hartwick ended in a loss.

Sounded like Hartwick came to play 110%. Judging from listening to the game they wanted the game more and so did Hawk Nation. Not only did Hartwick upset a top 5 nationally ranked team, they did it without trailing 1 second of the game.

The Hartwick athletic program has definitely had their challenges over the course of the last several years, between being competitive in recruiting/financial aid and athletic facilities/resources. Tonight's win is without a doubt a major step in the right direction towards re-establishing the tradition of winning at Hartwick.

I am glad I am not on the Fisher bus heading back to Fisher tonight

At least the Fisher women's soccer team won in double OT against Hartwick.

Tonight, I officially nominate Coach Mark Carr for Coach of the Year and Jason Boltus for E8 Player of the Year.

The philosophy is to go for the win on the road.  The ball is in a location on the field at which you can score in the endzone 38% of the time.  A 20-yd field goal success rate/extra point success rate is about 75% in Division 3, with the chances of winning in OT on the road not more than 50%.  Thus, the chances of kicking a field goal and winning in OT in that situation are only about 37.5% maximum.

Thus, this idea that going for the FG and OT as being automatic in such a situation is not true.  On the road, I think SJF may have made a decent choice -- try to win and end the game while the opposition has not chance to respond.  That's my two cents.

honestly...fisher blew it...should not have come down to the last play of the game... E8zone...if you want us to respect on you post...before your team upsets the #5 team in the country....Hartwick is lucky...they play tough at home...and congrats to their coaches for having the players get up for the game...though I'm going to say that they cheated by having the sixth fan on the left hand side of the bleachers tape fishers signals...

You're the only dood on the board that doesn't know & accept that '57 can't spell.

Poor grammar and horrible spelling... it's just how he rolls.

Superman, you must be watching too much TV (Patriots and Bill Belichik).  Are you serious??!!  Frank, how do you figure it to be a 37 yard field goal when Fisher was on the 2 yard line??  After listening to the last minute on the webcast, it sounds to me like the Fisher coaching staff didn't have the confidence in their team to go into OT.  Doesn't sound like a top 10 team to me.

So next week...at Merrill Field...Hartwick at Alfred with the E8 title potentially on the line.  I am incredibly disoriented.  Also, Nov 3 while Alfred plays IC at Butterfield, Hey Pride will be stepping into the Hartwick Steel Cage themselves.  Suddenly that's a huuuuuge game.

Lloyd vs. Turtle for the E8tourage lead; anarchy in the NL and scrambled 1-A polls.  As Maggie Simpson would say in James Earl Jones' voice, "this truly is a disturbing universe."

It certainly has been a weird day. I should have known what was coming as I witnessed Tulane leading the most dominant team in college football thus far (LSU, not USC), with two mins left in the first half.

Re: Fisher play-calling: I know you all are (very) emotional and upset right now, but give Vosburgh a break. God, I almost want him to come in here and go on a profanity-laced tirade at some of you people, ending with something powerful like "YOU WERE NOTHING WHEN I GOT HERE...WITHOUT ME, YOU ARE NOTHING." Sorry, I was daydreaming. Anyways, as I said, cut the guy some slack. It's not like he just thought "you know what would be cool, I'm going to do something we've never tried before and bring in the backup QB and try to run it in that way." He obviously thought it would work. Why did he think that? Because it probably HAS worked many times in practice against his first-team defense which he was justified in thinking was better than Hartwick's defense. None of you guys are at practice. Also, I'd venture to say that the QB keeper has easily been the most successful play in college football for teams inside the 5 yd line over the last two years. I'm not just talking about Tim Tebow or Ryan Perrilloux. EVERYONE is running it and running it successfully.

All I'm saying is don't blame the coach. Players win and lose games. You guys are forever glorifying how great your offensive line is. They should have manhandled those 'Wick guys down there. But they didn't. Tip your hat to Hartwick and move on. You have a hell of a coach and you should not be Monday (Sunday?) Morning Quarterbacking him when a) you don't know his reasons for calling the play, and b) your amazing O-Line couldn't get it done in the clutch. Plus, what about the other 3.99 quarters where you let an inferior team hang in the game. C'mon people, get serious.

Welcome to my world, Super...I only said that to myself about 7,088 times walking back to my car 2 weeks ago while contemplating whether or not to just toss myself off the side of their hill and bounce and roll all the way to downtown Oneonta.

Boy I picked the wrong day to be gone all day....First of all congrats to Ithaca!

Second of all, The Eastern Region is a mess!

Third, I doubt you are going to beat the hell out of Alfred if you can't beat Hartwick.

By the way, am I just really drunk or does it really say Hartwick won?

I really don't understand...

The outcome of tonight's team came down to the coaching staffs having confidence in their teams. In tonight's game Coach Vosburgh and his staff got out coached. Not many top 5 coaching staffs lose complete confidence in their team's ability. Let alone enough to opt out of doing the safe play and go to OT with the momentum on your side.

I have to hand it to Hartwick. Week 1 they have a bad loss at WNEC. They came back, regrouped, and knocked off a powerful Ithaca squad. Last weekend they proved the previous week wasn't a fluke. In tonight's game they controlled for the majority of the game against the #5 team in the nation and won in the end fair&square.

Hartwick football is no longer a push over football program like in years past!

Lastly, Hartwick wasn't lucky tonight nor did they do any cheating.

Re-read my post, and don't confuse percentages with numbers -- I said a 20-yard field goal.

No I didn't!  I was gone all day and missed everything!  I wish I had been here though.  D-1 had an interesting day too.
