To the Wick boys,
Keep coming with the comments.  You cant win till you've been here a while.  I was a coach (a lowly one at that, often reffered to as a slappy by my superior, but that's neither here nor there) under the coach of the year that didnt know a thing about what he was talking about for my first few months according to those on the board.  It's good to have some more fresh meat here.

Second-  I once new a man named Dave Murray.  For all his faults (ugly, little light in the loafers) he could direct one heck of a defense.  No way Wick puts up 40 in this game (as previously stated).  In fact, they barely get 20 and that's late off garbage points.  Final analysis-

Once again Keeley proves he's the best player in the league.
AU Defense dominates.
Some kid named Zarzycki scores a fluke td late.
And Tone Williams has put on 10 more pounds
AU wins 42-24.

Heres what is POSSIBLE...
1) Ithaca wins out and finishes with 2 loses in the E8
2) Alfred loses to Fisher and Ithaca. Alfred finishes with 2 loses in the E8
3) Springfield loses to Ithaca but, wins out and beats Fisher. Springfield finishes with 2 loses in the E8
4) Springfield & Alfred beat Hartwick and Hartwick  finishes with 2 loses in the E8

Thus resulting with records in the E8 looking like this...
A) Fisher = 4-2  (beat B,C,F,G.  Lose to D,E)
B) Ithaca = 4-2 (beat C,D,F,G. Lose to A,E)
C) Alfred = 4-2 (beat D,E,F,G. Lose A,B)
D) Springfield = 4-2 (beat A,E,F,G. Lose to B,C)
E) Hartwick = 4-2 (beat A,B, F,G. Lose to C, D)
F) Norwich = 0-6 ( lose to everyone )
G) Utica = 1-5 (Beat Norwich)

Rowdy Requested this way back on page 1637.  So, here it is again.  THERE's STILL HOPE!!  a 5 way tie for the E8.  What could also happen is a 3 or 4 way tie, obviously.  For the Bombers we need to win out and beat Cortland in order to have a prayer at the "wild card".  This is under the assumption that our out of conference schedule of Brockport, Kings, Lycoming, and Cortland is stronger than the others.

Excuse me I'm trying to get a good connection in this ditch I'm digging and the damn excavator keeps getting in the way.

Your prediction sounds more like a recap of the Norwich game. I don't think either defense is going to dominate. This is going to come down to which tandem Boltus/Crea or Keeley/Hendrix execute better. When you have a balanced attack (which both teams have) a defense can not stop everything. Winner will be who reads what the defense is giving them best and who makes the correct adjustments.

My prediction: 35-32

Of course I think it's going to be 'wick, but it's not going to be more than a 3 point game either way.

Saxon73 watched some news shows last night and fell asleep.  As curiousity gets this cat, checking the posts this a.m. around 4:30 really woke me up.  Too much to comment on right now after reading so much.  I'll have to ruminate while at the golf course.

Hartwick posters, I think someone advised you - tread litely.

Fish 91 didn't see you at game, sorry - will explain later.

One thing did stick out though - HC only beat Husson 35-27 - IN the Cage, even if Boltus did miss a part of the 4th qtr.  This is an enigma in relation to the IC and SJF games.  I just can't believe Husson is that good.  Truly confusing.   ??? ??? ???  (One for each game)

Was 35-20 at start of 4th Q when Boltus went out, back-up QB was deer in headlights since Husson was bringing heavey blitz all game. He couldn't move the ball and actually threw an INT on his only pass to a rumbling, bumbling, stumbling lineman to the 10. If Boltus stays in the score is easily 42-20 minimum.
The one that sticks out more and is confusing, if you weren't there is the WNEC game.

Glad to see E8Nation has finally rounded back into mid-season form with a full night shift of activity.  Ker-plunk, now the day shift is on.

To follow up on the discussions of the evening.

-SC is one dimensional and beating them is as easy as stopping Sharpe (or Cahill...Bosox showing some institutional knowledge...impressive).  That is, as everyone said, easier said than done.  Especially by a defense giving up 30+ points and 400+ yards of offense.

-I really don't know anything about AU's defense but, I can't imagine that their secondary will be playing anywhere near as badly as IC and SJF.  (Yes, SJF has Stepnick but I was pretty unimpressed by the 2ndary's overall speed when they played IC.  Our mediocre receiving corps still got open.)  If their secondary is better, I think they limit Hartwick.

-I think the contest for E8 POY gets decided in Mayberry Saterday with all for frontrunners present and accounted for.

-I really hope mini-linebacker comes back today.

-Tags, +k for my new signature.

It's just a little confusing to say the least when the game with Husson is close (even if it was your backup QB) and yet you managed to beat IC and Fisher.  I would like to think that if IC, AU, SJF, or SC plays Husson, the game is over before half.  If those four were to play Husson i would dare say that our backup qb's would be playing the entire second half.  This perplexes me and I would think does the same for the rest of the board.

-Jose- Mayberry?  I'm not sure I quite understand.  Did you mean Merrill?  AU's field?  After all, they do have the only 2 unbeaten teams at this point and will produce the lone unbeaten at the end of the day.  It also pits the highest touted QB's from the E8 that have directed their teams to that point.  Moreover, AU and Wick have not won the E8 in some time; read deeper- they don't play for IC or Fisher (widely respected as football factories this millenium).  So if you meant to say "Keeley is the MVP".  I agree.

Uhm.. do you mean Never won the E8?  IC has won it all but 1 year.  with a few of those being ties.  You understand that the E8 has only been around for 6-9 years right?   Not too mention if we dont find a replacement for Norwich the E8 could dismantle faster than the Mets in September.

Mayberry is synonymous with Alfred in the E8 Nation....as in Mayberry RFD, i.e. a rural community with Andy as Sheriff, Opie learning life's lessons, Aunt Bee baking cookies, Barney---well, being Barney, Goober fixing cars, Gomer going off to serve his country....

That's correct. AU has NEVER won the Empire 8 Football championship. AU has lots of ICAC titles but that was back when the Independent Collegiate Athletic Conference included SLU, RPI, Union, Hobart, AU...

Pep thinks Husson would join the E8 in a heartbeat, but not sure E8 members want to travel to Maine every other year, and not sure how they fit into the academic scheme of the E8.

I think that you can understand my point if you read the entire quote.  As for the salt in the wound- this is the year we win it.  A replacement for Norwich will be found.  It's too good of a league.  Someone will want to fight for the automatic bid.  It might be a ways away, PA, or even Ohio, but there will be one.
By the way, great history lesson, but I think what I was trying to do was to explain that the tide has changed.  In the PRESENT, I think my FULL quote has relevance.  And the MVP will be playing at Merril field in Alfred, NY this saterday.

Jose- My bad.  Little b4 my time.

Just to be clear.  I was saying that the four top contenders for E8 POY are Boltus, Crea, Keeley and Hendrix.

As for this question of present vs. history I am confused.  If by present you mean this season, then I will agree.  But 6 seasons hardly seems like "history" to me.

I was talking about this year.  It just seems to me that the Dubbz has become a little cranky as of late due to the situation his team is in.  AU has been there and you don't see me throwing rocks.  I took my lumps in past years when AU has faultered.  But I'm not concerned with past years.  Last year or 6 yrs ago.  That's why these boards are so great, bc you get instant feedback from WEEK to WEEK, not year to year.

I dont think its all that confusing... I just think its a matter of Hartwick (or any team) getting hot at the right time...

To add to that it is also difficult for most of us here to evaluate another teams offense and defense. You can only base it on what you see when they play your team this year and depending on how much turnover on the team, maybe last year. We go on game reports for the most part. As the season progresses, probably to the point we are at now, you start seeing additional teams and start doing comparisions of results.

We have seen 2 teams IC and SJF. Based on those games and other results I would venture to say that there is no dominant team and there are 5 teams that will keep knocking each other off. Makes for an exciting season.
